A Crest Road resident reported between 8/31/17 and 9/1/17 an unknown actor entered a parked unlocked vehicle and removed loose coins from within. The victim reported approximately $5 was removed.
On 9/1/17 a Cottage Place resident reported a parked unlocked vehicle was entered between 8/31/17 and 9/1/17. The victim reported a purse was removed from the vehicle and personal property was taken.
A Cedar Avenue resident reported on 9/1/17 an unknown actor entered a parked unlocked vehicle and removed items from within. The victim reported approximately $2000 in cash was removed from the vehicle.
On 9/1/17 an Ackerman Avenue resident reported a theft from an unlocked automobile. The theft reportedly occurred between 8/31/17 and 9/1/17. The victim reported two items valued at $1100 were removed from the vehicle.
Ptl. Brandon Donnelly responded to a Crest Road residence on a report of a stolen motor vehicle in the past. Upon arrival the victim reported a Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen between 9/2/17 and 9/3/17. The vehicle was reported to have been parked in the driveway and left unlocked. The victim reported the value of the vehicle was approximately $10,000 and the vehicle contained personal property valued at about $1200.
On 9/4/17, a Spring Avenue resident reported a theft from a parked unlocked vehicle in the driveway. The victim reported a change purse containing loose change was stolen and the vehicle registration was also missing.

Ridgewood NJ, On 9/3/17, Ptl. Kyle Monton conducted a motor vehicle stop on Godwin Avenue and the driver provided false identification to Ptl. Monton. Upon further investigation, the male driver, 37-years-old of Passaic, N.J. was arrested at the scene, transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters and charged with hindering apprehension. The arrestee was issued a complaint summons, three traffic summons and released with a pending court date.

Ridgewood NJ, The 24th Annual Ridgewood Car Show was held at Van Neste Square with over 400 cars in attendance . The weather was clear skys and music filled the air.
On September 5, 2017, the Ridgewood Police Department arrested ADAM M. GROSS, a 37-year-old male from Bloomfield, NJ on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, five counts of Burglary, and five counts of Theft of Moveable Property. This arrest is the result of an investigation by the Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau.
In August and September, multiple reports were made to the police department of burglaries to unlocked motor vehicles parking in residential driveways throughout the village. On September 3, 2017 an unlocked vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Crest Road. Leads were developed and detectives located the vehicle and GROSS in Paterson, NJ.

Ridgewood NJ, On 8/29/17 patrol units responded to a Prospect Street residence to investigate a report of a loud juvenile party. Upon further investigation a 46 year-old female from Ridgewood was arrested at the scene, transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters, charged with making alcoholic beverages available for consumption and released with a pending court date. Twelve juveniles were released at the scene after juvenile releases were completed, three other adults were issued Special Complaints for underage consumption/possession and two other juveniles were admitted to the Valley Hospital emergency room for treatment.
Ridgewood NJ, Resident Frank Mortimer Jr. put forward the idea to the Village Council that Ridgewood should become the first Bee City in New Jersey . The Ridgewood Wildscape association is also a big supporter
and has previously done plantings at Twinney’s Pond Park and Kings and Gypsy Pond Parks.

The Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in a resolution, for creating sustainable habitats for pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet.By becoming a Bee City USA affiliate, local leaders can improve their community’s environment, eating habits, and even economy.
A “honey bee” is any member of the genus Apis, primarily distinguished by the production and storage of honey and the construction of perennial, colonial nests from wax. Currently, only seven species of honey bee are recognized, with a total of 44 subspecies, though historically six to eleven species are recognized. The best known honey bee is the Western honey bee which has been domesticated for honey production and crop pollination. Honey bees represent only a small fraction of the roughly 20,000 known species of bees. Some other types of related bees produce and store honey, including the stingless honey bees, but only members of the genus Apis are true honey bees. The study of bees, which includes the study of honey bees, is known as melittology.
In the United States, there are over 4,000 species of native bees. Familiar bees visiting garden flowers are the colorful, fuzzy, yellow-and-black striped bumblebees, metallic-green sweat bees, squash bees, and imported honeybee. These flower-seeking pollen magnets purposefully visit flowers to collect pollen and nectar for food for themselves and their young.
Pollination, quite simply, is the way many plants reproduce. Since plants are immobile, they require assistance with their reproduction, and that’s where pollinators come in. They take pollen from one plant to another, thereby making plant reproduction possible.
But in recent years some scientists think the world’s bees are in trouble, addressing the underlying problems contributing to their demise, from the use of dangerous pesticides to the destruction of their habitat, is painfully slow. While this issues is still up for debate. When it comes to actually working out why the bees are dying the confusion is even greater. Some Scientists think something called the varroa mite is partly responsible for the bee emergency. They suck the blood of infected insects, weakening their immune systems.
An industrious worker bee may visit 2,000 flowers per day. She can’t carry pollen from that many flowers at once, so she’ll visit 50-100 flowers before heading home. All day long, she repeats these round trip flights to forage, which puts a lot of wear and tear on her body. A hardworking forager may live just 3 weeks.
A single honey bee worker produces about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. For honey bees, there’s power in numbers. From spring to fall, the worker bees must produce about 60 lbs. of honey to sustain the entire colony during the winter.It takes tens of thousands of workers to get the job done
Looking to save the bees ,Beekeeping has become very popular in recent years along with the positive view of the healing powers local honey especially the view local honey helps fight allergies.
The maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in hives, by humans. A beekeeper (or apiarist) keeps bees in order to collect their honey and other products that the hive produces (including beeswax, propolis, pollen, and royal jelly), to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. A location where bees are kept is called an apiary or “bee yard”.

Ridgewood NJ, Escape to the movies while the kids are in school! The Matinee Club is the monthly, morning movie series that has been bringing moms (and some dads!) to the movies since 2006. If you love the movies, but don’t get to see as many as you’d like, Matinee Club, a movie series that brings moms to the movies at 11:30 am while the kids are in school!
They meet in Ridgewood at the Warner Quad theater one Tuesday morning a month from October to May. Members have a choice of two films. It’s really fun! We also have groups in Chatham, Millburn and Montclair – last year we had over 1000 members!

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Ice Hockey will be holding a FREE clinic for all Ridgewood Hockey Players this Sunday, September 10th @ 10:50 am – 12:10 pm at Floyd Hall in Montclair, NJ.
All ages and skill levels are welcome (Unfortunately Ridgewood High School players can not participate due to league rules). Our Coaches from the High School, Middle School, and Squirt teams will be on hand and will be on the ice to work with the players and organize different activities. Full Equipment required.
The Ridgewood Ice Hockey Foundation will be there as well selling Ridgewood Ice Hockey merchandise.
We will also be holding an equipment swap, plenty of gear available in all sizes. Perfect for the new player or someone looking for some roller hockey gear. We have lots of gear.

Ridgewood NJ. the Maple Park turf field is in need of a major update , the Village will apply to Bergen County Open Space funding for the 50/50 matching grant to replace the turf at Maple Field. The Village plans to use Bergen County Open space funds, Village open space funds and money from the capital budget . The decision has been made to replace the 12 year old field due to is heavy use and deteriorated condition.
Resident Boyd Loving asked if the Village expected to receive any money from the class action suite filed against the manufacturing over the fields not living up to their expected life span? Village Attorney Matt Rogers explained that there were on going talks with Field Turf to defray costs of a replacement field and will be made public when negotiations are concluded .
Ridgewood NJ, the Village has awarded a contract to replace the collapsed storm sewer on Circle Avenue just south of East Ridgewood Avenue .According to Village Manager Heather Mailander , “the concord grated metal pipe has failed and needs to be replaced “. A seepage tank will also be added . The street is currently impacted by an indent surrounded by cones. The project needs to be finished before the cold weather sets in.

Ridgewood NJ, The Office of the Bergen County Clerk in Hackensack provides various services daily to the public. They are setting up a satellite office in the Ridgewood Annie Zusy Youth Center (located in the Village Hall Community Center) on September 12, 13, & 14 from 10AM to 2PM. The County Clerk’s Office will accept passport application (as well as take photos for the passport), file business trade names, issue notary oaths, and issue photo cards ( Veterans, Senior Citizens, and Exempt Fire Fighters). Taking advantage of this special satellite office will save you a trip to Hackensack.
