>‘Stock Act’ sticks taxpayers with $1.7 million tab
This wasn’t supposed to happen. In Congress drive to clean up its act and pass the “Stock Act” to provide transparency to Wall Street holdings members have, taxpayers are getting stuck with the bill.
Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer reveals that it will cost $1.5 million to develop software and programs to provide the easy-to-use electronic disclosure of lawmaker holdings required in the legislation.
Plus, he adds, when up and running, it will likely cost another $200,000 a year just to operate and maintain.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17, the saint’s religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast–on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
St. Patrick and the First St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. In the centuries following Patrick’s death (believed to have been on March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding his life became ever more ingrained in the Irish culture: Perhaps the most well known legend is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.
Since around the ninth or 10th century, people in Ireland have been observing the Roman Catholic feast day of St. Patrick on March 17. Interestingly, however, the first parade held to honor St. Patrick’s Day took place not in Ireland but in the United States. On March 17, 1762, Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City. Along with their music, the parade helped the soldiers reconnect with their Irish roots, as well as with fellow Irishmen serving in the English army.

‘No Knock’ List Would Keep Away Solicitors

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – After the murder of an 80-year-old woman in her home last fall, the City of Royal Oak is looking into possibly adopting a so-called community “no knock” list in an attempt to tighten the limits on door-to-door solicitors.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Royal Oak City Attorney Dave Gillam.
“A homeowner would have the ability to have their name and address put on that list. And, essentially, that would make it illegal or unlawful for a solicitor to approach someone at that address for commercial purposes,” Gilliam said.
Nancy Dailey was murdered in her house on November 20, allegedly by two parolees who authorities said did lawn work for her prior to the murder.

UN Agenda 21 : take away your property rights
For those of you that do not know about UN Agenda 21, it is in a nutshell:
An “earth first” mantra that subverts rational thought and the needs of our Society to dupe citizens of developed nations into massive wealth transfer (especially property and property rights) to their governments (local, state and national) and from their governments to undeveloped nations,
supposedly to rid the world of poverty thereby achieving a global, “Sustainable” utopia.
Sustainable is the buzz word that encapsulates decision criteria based on satisfying one or more of
the three E’s:
– Environment
– Equity (as in Social Equity)
– Economy
As wacky as this sounds, this is no joke – it is a cult mentality that has the potential to suddenly and forever fundamentally transform America into an unrecognizable form.
The draft plan clearly cedes control to the state, whether that is intended or not, and whether or not the county government wishes to implement the state plan or not. “Intent” has nothing to do with it despite what county planners claim. State law will prevail. Fortunately, various groups have already had much success with Somerset, Monmouth and Ocean counties; their rationale is getting attention statewide. This sets a precedent for success in your county, too. Politicians like to know there are others also addressing this issue – they they are not alone in the fight. A good communication channel is open with the county planners in all three of these counties, not only regarding the draft state development plan, but also their respective county plans.

When New Jersey lawmakers passed a tough anti-bullying law in response to the suicide of Ridgewood resident Tyler Clementi, it seemed like a good idea. Having a set of policies and procedures in place to handle incidents of harassment, intimidation or bullying (HIB) among children is a good idea — in theory.

(Ridgewood , NJ) Last week AOL’s “hyper local” online news network Patch consolidated 4 of its New Jersey local websites. The Patch in Ridgewood has now merged with Glen Rock and the Franklin Lakes Patch has been merged with Wycoff . Sources claim it was a business decision done to better serve both readers and advertisers.
However Ad Age reports that Patch spokesperson Janine Iamunno said the decision was “editorially driven,” coming from editors who felt there was too much news overlap in the towns. Previously the Patch also reduced freelance budgets to make the sites more profitable.
AOL the parent company is under pressure from the recent merger with Huffington Post and is still struggling with how hyper local the Patch’s news coverage and and advertising should be.

Former chief: Manager should be in charge
To the editor:
At the last council meeting, Deputy Mayor Tom Riche stated: “When the Emergency Operations Center is activated … all command and control immediately goes to the Emergency Operations Center and the director of Emergency Management. So the village manager theoretically at that point is no longer in charge.”
Nothing, however, could be further from the truth.
