Englewood Cliffs NJ, Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to contain a series of brush fires along the Palisades in Englewood Cliffs. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported that the largest fire, covering roughly 19 acres, was about 30% contained by morning. Fire engines, ground crews, and a helicopter capable of dropping 350 gallons of water are actively working to contain the blaze.

Local roads were closed as crews from multiple departments, including Englewood, Fort Lee, Edgewater, Ridgefield, and others, joined forces with the State Forest Service to fight the fire fueled by extremely dry conditions. The blaze, visible from across the Hudson River, stretched across the mountain and could be seen as far away as Yonkers and Washington Heights.

Early this morning, another brush fire briefly shut down a northbound lane on the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) near Exit 1. Crews managed to quickly contain it, but authorities warned that conditions are ripe for more fires. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Englewood Cliffs area through 6 p.m. Friday, signaling that strong winds, low humidity, and dry conditions have created a high risk for fire spread.

With dry and unseasonably warm weather and one of the driest Octobers in recent history, much of the Northeast has been on high alert for wildfires. The Forest Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fires, but officials caution that the current conditions could lead to more outbreaks. The combination of dry fuels, gusty winds, and persistent drought has made brush fires particularly dangerous and difficult to contain.

For updates on road closures, safety tips, and fire containment progress, keep an eye on local news and emergency alerts. The situation serves as a stark reminder of the heightened fire risk this season across New Jersey and the Northeast.
