Ridgewood NJ, according to CBS News just weeks after the Indian Army allegedly discovered the mysterious footprint of the yeti, the FBI released documents Wednesday regarding a 1976 investigation into another hairy mythical creature: Bigfoot.

In 1976, federal investigators responded to a request by Peter Byrne, director of the Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition, which was sponsored by the Academy of Applied Science in Boston, to analyze mysterious hairs attached to a piece of skin. After the “Washington Environmental Atlas” wrote in 1975 that the FBI had analyzed a scrap of hair and it “was found to belong to no known animal,” Byrne asked whether the FBI had truly conducted this analysis.

The New Bee Crisis Is Just Like The Old One: Phony

Never let a good crisis go to waste, Rahm Emanuel famously said.  But what do you do if the “crisis” turns out to be a dud?  Easy–invent a new one.

That’s what we’re seeing currently in Washington and Brussels, where government regulators, deprived of one environmental calamity–by, of all things, data–are scrambling for a new narrative.

For years environmentalists have been raising alarms about the “bee-pocalypse”–a supposed catastrophic decline in honeybee populations–and calling for an immediate ban of a new class of state-of-the-art “systemic” pesticides called neonicotinoids (“neonics” for short) which they blamed for the die-offs.

The media were all over the story, endlessly replaying the environmentalist meme that without bees to pollinate our crops, “one-third of every bite of food we eat” would disappear. Banning neonics and saving bees was tantamount to saving the world from starvation.

The science supporting a ban was questionable, to say the least. Poorly designed experiments that overdosed bees in the lab were contradicted by large-scale field studies that confirmed real-world experience–honeybees actuallythrive in neonic-treated crops. But those lab studies were enough for the regulators in Brussels, who ignored their own scientists and the loud objections of the British, among others, and passed an EU-wide ban which started at the end of 2013.

Ridgewood Spring Animal Sightings

Ridgewood NJ, We have received a few reports of random daytime sightings of raccoons. We have no reason to believe they are rabid. Usually raccoons are nocturnal but during this time of the year they are breeding and are often looking for food or drink for themselves and their babies from dumpsters, garbage cans, pools or other water sources.

Tyco, our Animal Control expert, suggests that there should only be concerns if an animal looks like they are drunk or intoxicated; if they are lying around and not responding to loud noises; attack inanimate objects (trees/rocks); or other types of weird behavior. In these cases you are encouraged to call the Police Department who will contact the animal control service.

We recommend that you do not feed feral animals or leave food out or stagnant water for them.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival is happening now in Austin, Texas. Running from March 9 to 22, it’s a massive film, interactive and music festival that is nearly 20 years old. The festival brings together designers, developers, investors, entrepreneurs and politicians for panels and discussions about technology and innovation.

For the third time in the last few years, Al Gore, founder and chairman of the Climate Reality Project, spoke at the festival on Friday. Naturally, his interactive discussion focused on addressing the climate crisis. The former vice president focused on the need to “punish climate-change deniers, saying politicians should pay a price for rejecting ‘accepted science,’” said the Chicago Tribune.

Gore said forward-thinking investors are moving away from companies that invest in fossil fuels and towards companies investing in renewable energy. “We need to put a price on carbon to accelerate these market trends,” Gore told the Chicago Tribune, referring to a proposed federal cap-and-trade system that would penalize companies that exceeded their carbon-emission limits. “And in order to do that, we need to put a price on denial in politics.”

He called on the tech-minded SXSW crowd, which is dominated by Millenials, to harness technology to launch a grassroots movement to tackle climate change and call out climate deniers. “We have this denial industry cranked up constantly,” Gore said. “In addition to 99 percent of the scientists and all the professional scientific organizations, now Mother Nature is weighing in.”

Years from now, Gore said the next generation will look back at us and ask: “How did you change?,” according to Macworld. “Part of the answer may well be that a group of people came to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2015 and helped to make a revolution,” Gore said.

Gore wanted these young, tech-savvy attendees to start a grassroots movement using social media like they did when “net neutrality was threatened or when the Stop Online Piracy Act threatened to blacklist websites that offered so-called illegal content,” said Macworld. That means signing petitions to fight climate change, utilizing social media to call out climate deniers in Congress and streaming the Live Earth Road to Paris concert on June 18, an event designed to draw attention to the climate talks in Paris this December.

The former Veep even gave a nod to Pope Francis during his talk, showing a slide of the pontiff and saying “How about this Pope?” Pope Francis celebrated his two-year anniversary as Pope on Friday, riding a wave of popularity “that has reinvigorated the Catholic Church in ways not seen since the days of St. John Paul II,” said the Chicago Tribune. Gore said he was looking forward to the Pope’s highly anticipated encyclical on the environment which is due to be released in June or July. “I’m not a Catholic,” Gore said, “but I could be persuaded to become one.”

Readers says Recent Sightings of “Big Foot ” in Sussex County has raisied the specter that a “Big Foot” could be lurking right in our neighborhood in Ridgewood .

The Animal Planet network’s “Finding Bigfoot” crew recently visited Sussex County to search the rural area for the legendary — some would say mythical — creature who has eluded capture despite numerous purported sightings.

An article in The Daily Record of Parsippany got me thinking maybe the Boy Scots or  can organize a “Night Out for Big Foot ” , lets face it a lttle back yard camping in the summer is always fun , so lets add a search for “Big Foot”.

According to Tyler Bounds, investigator with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) and outdoor technician for Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot.

At night, listening for animal communications — hoots, hollers, screams, whistles, the sound of knocking on wood. Again, he emphasizes the importance of familiarizing yourself with local wildlife, so you can begin to eliminate possibilities with some degree of certainty.

What to bring:

1. Basic camping gear. Bring what you would bring on any other camping trip.

2. A guidebook on local wildlife. This is a must, according to Tyler. “So many people, they hear something and think ‘Is it Bigfoot?’ But it’s an owl. Or it’s a coyote. If you familiarize yourself with the local flora and fauna, it goes a long way toward knowing where to go, what to look for, and what to listen for.”

3. Means of documenting what you think you see and hear. If you end up seeing or hearing something, you’re probably going to want proof. Bring an audio recorder, a video camera, or, at the very least, a smartphone with recording capabilities.

4. A journal. This is serious stuff. A regular notebook will work, but due to the nature of ‘squatching, it’s a good idea to bring a simple audio recorder that you can use to record your observations as you move through the darkness.

5. A tape measure. If you find a footprint you want to photograph, this is great tool for providing scale and measuring your findings.

6. Night vision. Being able to see in the dark using thermal imagers and night-vision scopes can’t hurt. However, as Tyler puts it, “You can put tons of money into buying all the most modern technological geekery things, but you don’t need it.”
