Fair Lawn NJ, on February 24, 2024, a three-alarm fire severely damaged a residence in Fair Lawn this afternoon. The Fair Lawn Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the six block of 5th Street at 2:24 PM.
Glen Rock NJ, gathered “early arrival” students were safely evacuated from the Alexander Hamilton School, located at 380 Harristown Road in Glen Rock, after a ceiling fire was reported at approximately 0830 hours on Wednesday morning, 10/18. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries to students, staff members, or first responders were reported. The cause of the small fire was being investigated. Glen Rock Fire Department was assisted at the scene by mutual aid fire departments from several nearby communities.
Fair Lawn NJ, at 4:05 Thursday morning, Fair Lawn Fire Department Engines 3 and 4 were dispatched to the Fair Lawn main post office on Abbott Road. Upon arrival, Fair Lawn Fire Chief Jake Mamo reported a mail vehicle that was fully involved. The members of Engine 3 and 4 quickly extinguished the fire. All fire units cleared the scene by 4:55 am . No injuries reported. No mail was damaged .
Fair Lawn NJ, a Wednesday afternoon, 07/26, single vehicle rollover crash on Route 208 northbound under Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn resulted in the vehicle’s driver sustaining non-life threatening injuries which required ambulance transport to a nearby hospital. The vehicle was righted and removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.
Paterson NJ, a 911 telephone call received by the Paterson Police Department from an individual who witnessed a woman dumping a child strapped in a car seat into the Passaic River triggered a massive multi-agency search on Monday morning, 07/17. Water, air (drone), and land searches were conducted for over one (1) hour before they were terminated after the witness’ account was not able to be verified. The search included , Fair Lawn Police Department, Elmwood Park Police, Elmwood Park Fire Dept, NJ Paterson Police Department, Paterson Fire Department ,Fair Lawn Rescue Squad, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn Fire Company #4 ,Fair Lawn Fire Company #3, Fair Lawn Fire Company 2 ,and Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.
Fair Lawn NJ, a multiple alarm Wednesday morning, 06/21, house fire in the 2500 block of Kipp Street, Fair Lawn drew a large fire department response. The fire, which reportedly started in the home’s kitchen, was quickly knocked down by Fair Lawn Fire Department. Heavy black smoke from the blaze could be seen blocks away. No injuries were reported.

Fair Lawn NJ, the Fair lawn Police department wished former Police Chief Van Houten a very happy “101st Birthday”. June 30, 1987, Chief Robert Van Houten retired after serving the Fair lawn Police department for 37 years.
Fair Lawn NJ, at 6:39 AM Saturday morning, Fair Lawn Fire Engine Companies 3 and 4 were dispatched to a car fire at the bottom of the exit ramp from 208 south and Plaza Road. Fair Lawn Battalion Chief Mike Salvini reported that there was a fully involved car fire. The members of Engine 3 and 4 quickly put out the fire. There were no injuries, but the car, a 1987 Porsche 928, was a total loss. All Fair Lawn units cleared the scene by 7:30 AM.
Glen Rock NJ, a smokey Thursday afternoon, 04/06, fire consumed a Toyota Prius on Rock Road near Isabella Place in Glen Rock. The fire, which reportedly originated in the vehicle’s trunk, was extinguished by Glen Rock firefighters with overhaul assistance provided by Fair Lawn Fire Company #4. Glen Rock Police provided traffic control. The damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.
Fair Lawn NJ, Firefighters quickly extinguished a Wednesday morning, 04/05, fire that started on the second floor of a home on Ruskin Road in Fair Lawn. No injuries were reported in the incident. The single family home was unoccupied when police and firefighters arrived on the scene. An investigation is underway to determine what started the smokey blaze. Also on scene Fair Lawn Fire Department , Fair Lawn Fire Company #4 , Fair Lawn Rescue Squad , Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps , Fair Lawn Fire Company #3 , Fair Lawn Fire Company 2 , Fair Lawn Police Department .
Fair Lawn NJ, at 2:54 AM Sunday the Fair Lawn Fire Department was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on the 12 block of Saddle River Road. Upon arrival, Fair Lawn Fire Chief Jake Mamo reported smoke showing from the structure in what appeared to be a chimney fire that had extended into the walls of the first floor. A general alarm was transmitted. The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire companies opened up the walls to look for extension. Fair Lawn Rescue, Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and the Fair Lawn Police Department also assisted on the scene. Mutual aid companies from Elmwood Park and Saddle Broom were stationed in Fair Lawn to handle any other calls. All fire units were cleared from the scene by 5:33 AM. There were no injuries to the residents or to firefighters.
Fair lawn NJ, Multiple non-life threatening injuries were reported when a passenger vehicle plowed head on into the crowded Green Dragon Asian Cuisine Restaurant in Fair Lawn early Sunday evening, 02/05. All Borough of Fair Lawn emergency services agencies responded to the incident. The restaurant. located in the 1900 block of Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn, sustained heavy damage to its exterior façade and interior dining room. The vehicle, a Ford SUV, was backed out of the interior on its own power, then removed from the parking lot by a flatbed tow truck. The driver was apparently uninjured in the mishap.
Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn EMS, and Fair Lawn Rescue Squad units rushed to free the occupants of a single family home on Jordan Road, Fair Lawn, who became trapped inside after a large tree limb fell onto home’s roof shortly before 9:00 PM, Friday, 12/23. All occupants were safely extricated from the structure by first responders. No injuries were reported. The home was “red tagged” by a Borough of Fair Lawn building inspector; utilities were completely shut off by utility company representatives.
Fair Lawn NJ, the driver of a van delivering packages in the 600 block of 4th Street, Fair Lawn, lost control of the vehicle early Thursday evening, 12/08, and struck a parked, unoccupied Honda Pilot. After side swiping the Honda, the van rolled over on its driver’s side before coming to a stop. The van’s driver was uninjured, and self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency responders. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department Company #1, and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue responded to the incident.
Fair Lawn NJ, three (3) ambulances were observed tending to victims at the scene of a three (3) vehicle, head -on, Thursday night, 11/24, crash on the Maple Avenue, Fair Lawn bridge over Route 208. One (1) victim was wheeled to a waiting ambulance on a stretcher and subsequently transported to The Valley Hospital; all others appeared to have been “walking wounded” and may or may not have required hospital treatment. Fair Lawn Police, Fair Lawn Fire Department, Fair Lawn EMS, Glen Rock Police, Hackensack EMS, and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue responded to the incident, which blocked all traffic on Maple Avenue near Route 208 for an extended period.
