NJ Advance Media is launching a feature this week dubbed the New Jersey Real Estate Power Rankings.
Every three months, we will rank the top 15 real estate markets and chart how they’ve changed amid what is a fairly volatile and fractured real estate market in the Garden State.
Our methodology is fairly simple. Each quarter, we take stock of all the towns in the state that are seeing their median valuation peak during the most recent two quarters. We’re using real-estate tracking website Zillow’s Home Value Index for our analysis (methodology here).
From there, we rank the towns based on what percent their median value has increased over the last year. The rankings will also include a statistic, located on the top right of each town’s stat sheet, that indicates how its place rose or fell since the last ranking.

Glen Rock NJ, On Saturday, Aug. 5, a sinkhole appeared at the southeast corner of the football field.
District employees quickly responded to the situation and secured the area. The hole was appropriately covered, gates to the field and track were locked, and signage was posted, letting the public know that the area is temporarily off limits. For safety purposes, lights were left on overnight and security personnel were in place on Sunday, to discourage anyone from disregarding the signs and entering the field complex.
On Monday, Aug. 7 the district reached the Contractor of Record, Quality Electric. After assessing the situation, the contractor informed the district late Tuesday, Aug. 8 that the damage will be repaired at no cost to the board since all work is still covered under the warranty. Further, the district has been notified that Quality Electric will be using Land Tek (the company that installed the turf football field) to repair the damage and restore the field. Land Tek is scheduled to begin the work on Thursday, Aug. 10; completion is anticipated by the weekend.
The district intends to have the field complex ready for the start of next week’s athletic practices.

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock PD officers monitored a large, Sunday evening, 08/06, labor union protest on Dunham Place, Glen Rock. The protest involved an ongoing labor dispute between a NYC based cable TV company and members of a electrical workers union. A regional vice president for the cable TV company lives in Glen Rock.
Glen Rock NJ, A tractor trailer hauling an over sized load through Glen Rock on Thursday afternoon, 07/27,was unable to successfully clear a grade level NJ Transit railroad crossing on Rock Road before warning gates lowered and hit the tractor. Two (2) Glen Rock Police uniformed patrol supervisors who were escorting the vehicle ordered the truck driver to back up off of the tracks to avoid a potential train vs. truck collision. The damaged warning gate was repaired by a NJ Transit Maintenance of Way technician, at which time train traffic was resumed. The over sized vehicle was backed westward on Rock Road to Main Street in order that it could continue on its way to Paramus. A NJ Transit Emergency Services Unit also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported by the truck driver. At least two (2) NJ Transit Bergen Line trains were significantly delayed due by the incident.
Disagree with both. There’s no disconnect. You need metered parking because we have so much demand for parking. Without limits and enforcement, the businesses will suffer. Might seem counterintuitive but it’s a matter of supply and demand. We can’t find parking today with 3 hour limits and meter rates….imagine how much parking you’ll find if it was free! Glen Rock has like two delis and a couple of shops. They don’t have nearly the same amount of retail stores or restaurants that we have. Same goes for Midland Park, HoHoKus, Waldwick, Wyckoff, Allendale. Should I go on? So no, we don’t have any competition. Route 17 and Garden State Plaza are not substitutes for a Downtown like ours.
And to suggest that people here live in a bubble, and that they don’t know what else is out there, is simply ridiculous. We have a very educated consumer who chooses to live here for the very reasons people trip over themselves to come here. And by the way, taxes in Glen Rock are actually higher than in Ridgewood. But somehow, people in Ridgewood think that their taxes are higher than any other place on earth. It’s just a high class brag that gives some people the justification for being an asshole. So stay home, order from Amazon, home-school your children and become a hermit. Just make sure to Amazon Prime some Vitamin D supplements.
Ridgewood NJ, At Wednesdays Council meeting defenders of CRAB ie the Community Relations Advisory Board of Ridgewood and Glen Rock , got up and ran off a litany of the horrors of living in a terrible place like Ridgewood where even your brand new BMW , winter ski vacations and summering at the shore can not save you from .
While proponents of CRAB insisted that efforts to reorganize were just political pay back . For over 30 years of the CRAB’s existence there have been hundreds of cases of abuse in one form or another. All these offensive events are dealt with by the board in a sensitive and caring manor.
Yes folks thats hundreds of cases in Ridgewood and of coarse a few in Glen Rock ,that this quasi governmental agency claims to have addressed , Really ? Not the parents, schools , or court system? It is simply amazing what a horrible place Ridgewood is and we need CRAB to keep saving us .
When we hear theses people speak it reminds me that many of us need to get out more often. “Out ” as in, away from our million dollar houses , local fund raisers , swim clubs , and trips to 5 star hotels . Thats out in the real world , you know like downtown Paterson ,just take a visit take a look at the real world for a bit see how it works . Then try your social activism when there are actually consequences for that activism . Lets see how long you last. Seeing people I know live very comfortable lives made by their ancestors whining about how hard life is in Ridgewood is just a bit thick and frankly a bit lame .
While we do not doubt the seriousness of issues in Ridgewood , it does appear that CRAB like many social activist organization are a “solution looking for a problem” , with no consequences to their actions . Attempting to create a problem with the current council is just a sad reminder of that very fact.
Glen Rock NJ, An early Monday afternoon, 06/26, two (2) vehicle crash on Prospect Street in Glen Rock, resulted in both cars being towed from the scene. No injuries were reported when a Honda Accord struck a parked Toyota Corolla. Glen Rock PD handled the investigation and documentation.
“I’m happy Ridgewood chose to fly the flag, but the basis of your article was not about the flag or why it is so important to so many, and how it might be a teaching opportunity about equality, fairness and just ‘not being an asshole’ tearing down another to raise yourself up. The point of your article appears to be that Ridgewood is great and Glen Rock is not. Kind of an asshole article, tearing down one town that has no dog in the Ridgewood debate, to attempt to elevate Ridgewood.”
Unfortunately there were a lot of ugly politics at play. The pride flag was being used as an attempt to undermine the Village of Ridgewood’s Mayor Susan Knudsen and several sitting council members. A group looking to put the previous council back in place used the pride flag to pressure the Ridgewood Village council by saying, look how great Glen Rock is ,they are wonderful and you are just a bunch of ignorant bigots .
The net result is many in Ridgewood felt they were being disparaged and it led to back lash which you see in that article . It is really not aimed at Glen Rock but at Alfred Doublin of the Bergen Record , Village Councilmen Jeff Voigt and members of CRAB , Jan Phillips as well as the former Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn . The unfortunate side effect or unintended consequence is an attack on Glen Rock and for that the Ridgewood blog would like to offer an apology to the Borough of Glen Rock and the Residents of Glen Rock. We did not in anyway mean to impune our neighbors ,who where simply caught in local Village political crossfire. Do not blame the Village , as editor and staff we should have made this far clearer in the article .
Reader, “If people just read this and don’t share the information, nothing will change. Do people think change comes by people sitting on their duffs in the living room and doing nothing more? Go to the event and support her at this event, otherwise, leaving it to someone else just won’t cut it anymore. Progressives who want to change the face of all the communities are working to make it happen…what are YOU DOING? If you can’t go, call your legislator even if it’s Pascrell and tell him this will lead to blighted areas in your town, overbuilding which perhaps including taking people’s homes through eminent domain if you are in the area they want, higher taxes due to more schools being needed, more traffic and of course road repairs and infrastructure costs – sewer, water, etc.”

Paramus NJ, Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi will initiate a series of statewide legislative hearings to address New Jersey’s affordable housing crisis. The first will be held on June 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bergen Community College’s Technology Education Center room 128.
Schepisi will be joined by other invited guests, including fellow legislators, mayors, town officials and planners, engineers, traffic experts, board of education members, environmental groups and other interested parties.
She said the hearings will examine ways to provide a better way toward affordability for the residents of this state while protecting towns from a recent state Supreme Court ruling that could force the construction of up to 1.5 million unneeded housing units to satisfy a fictitious population increase of 3.35 million in the next nine years – while Rutgers projects a population increase of only 219,000.
“We have reached a critical juncture in the State of New Jersey. We are the most costly, the most densely populated with the highest number of outmigration because people can no longer afford to live here. Instead of smart discussions regarding how to implement change to reduce living costs for all of our residents, the legislature’s inaction is forcing communities to potentially double their housing population in just the next nine years, destroying all existing housing prices while increasing property taxes,” said Schepisi. “We need to stop the court’s action and fix this issue while we still can.”
