WalletHub Study: New Jersey Is 2023’s 4th Worst State to Start a Business

Ridgewood NJ, with around 20% of new businesses failing within one year and inflation making entrepreneurship even more difficult, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2023’s Best & Worst States to Start a Business, as well as expert commentary.

To determine the most fertile grounds for planting and growing new ventures, WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states across 27 key indicators of startup success. The data set ranges from financing accessibility to the percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to office-space affordability.

Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips introduces bill to boost state’s angel investor tax credit program

Employment Picture Remained Steady

Washington DC, yesterday the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported ,total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 223,000 in December, and the unemployment rate edged down to 3.5 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Notable job gains occurred in leisure and hospitality, health care, construction, and social assistance.

Ridgewood NJ, studies continually show that many Americans are being paid by the government not to work more than to be in a job. This is not only bad for the economy, but bad for people’s health, and happiness.  Employers have been saying that the work ethic is slipping with young workers. The WSJ poll results below seem to confirm that the younger generation puts less emphasis on work and excelling on the job than the boomer’s generation.

Layoffs make Headlines but Companies have Been on a Hiring Spree

NJBIA 64th Annual Business Outlook Survey Details Affordability, Inflation Challenges for NJ Businesses

Trenton NJ, while affordability was the talk in Trenton a year ago, New Jersey’s business community is clearly feeling left out of that conversation.

In NJBIA’s 64th annual Business Outlook Survey, released today, a large majority (75%) said Gov. Phil Murphy and lawmakers have not done enough to address business affordability in the past 12 months – compared to just 5% who said policymakers are doing enough.

Further, a combined 82% said New Jersey is either somewhat unaffordable for business (46%) or not affordable at all for business (36%).

Trenton NJ,  the New Jersey Staffing Alliance (NJSA), the voice for staffing firms across the Garden State, has over the past year discussed its views with members of the state legislature on S-511/A-1474 also referred to “Temporary Worker’s Bill of Rights” to include language that would ensure staffing agencies remain in compliance with new administrative regulations while protecting the safety and health of the workers they serve. NJSA firmly believes that while Governor Murphy’s conditional veto of A-1474 addressed several administrative issues, it left in place significant elements that would cause not only great harm to the law-abiding temporary staffing industry, but also its clients and ultimately the citizens whom this bill’s sponsors purported to benefit and protect.
