Reader asks,”do leaves fall on schedule?”

fallleaves artchick.biz

“More good advice here than you think if we get past some complaining. Have lived here since 1964 but work in a town where they charge. Other town also rarely on time. Think about it guys… are people who pick up leaves (govt ees or contractors) as responsible as most of us have to be in our jobs? And with us hiding limbs, etc under the leaves might, maybe their job take longer than expected in any case? And do leaves fall on schedule?

Put the leaves out per schedule. Take a picture with date to prove it. They are on time, or not. If not they will be by in a few days. Chill.

I had one issue, where construction blocked our street by chance on same date as they came to pick up. So no pickup. And everyone on street got tickets three days later for ignoring schedule. Asked neighbors when they put theirs out (all within schedule), sent list of people with dated picture to Village. Told to come down to discuss. All tickets waived for block. But if I didn’t have the dates picture…

Ask you this question tho. If they stopped picking up leaves for “free” do you really think they would correspondingly lower our taxes? Nope. So follow the schedule, be able to prove it, relax and be happy with what we have.”

ADJUSTMENTS TO VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM

fallleaves artchick.biz

From the Village Manager Heather A. Mailander

Ridgewood NJ, Leaves continue to be picked up, and in order to give ample opportunity for leaf clean up, some of the scheduleshave been adjusted, as follows:

  • Area A No leaves may be placed out at this time
  • Area B Revised Leaf Placement Dates: Dec. 3 – Dec. 9
  • Area C Revised Leaf Placement Dates: Nov. 29 – Dec. 10
  • Area D Revised Leaf Placement Dates: Dec. 6 – Dec. 16

You may place your leaves in biodegradable paper bags, between the curb and sidewalk (not in the street), at any time and they will be picked up by our collection crews, as time permits.  Do not use plastic bags for leaf collection.  You may also bring your leaves to the Recycling Center during their regular hours.

No brush will be collected during leaf season.  In addition, do not place trash, stones, branches, twigs or other yardwaste into the leaf piles.

To locate your area for yardwaste collection, go to the Village website www.ridgewoodnj.net, click on My Village Services Lookup and enter your address to find your area.

If you have any questions regarding the leaf collection program, call the Street Division at 201-670-5585.

Reader says , “The collection schedules are not met and the traffic blows the leaves back on to my property”

leaves1_theridgewoodblog

I live on Grove Street. Cars and heavy trucks thunder by from 6am to 6.30pm. Speed limit enforcement is sporadic and has no discernable effect. This is a year long problem. What’s this got to with leaf collection? Read on. I try to minimize encroaching into the street with my leaf pile for obvious reasons. The collection schedules are not met and the traffic blows the leaves back on to my property. I carefully rake them back into the street. The collection schedules are not met. Traffic blows them back. I carefully rake them back into the street. When the leaf collection crew finally shows up (unannounced), they do not rake or vacuum up the leaves that have been blown back. Solution: just cut out this sorry excuse of a service and reduce our property taxes by the equivalent cost of a full landscaper service. And don’t get me started on having to clear my sidewalk of frozen snow that resembles cured concrete as thrown by heavy plows thundering by…

Reader says , “if you can fine homeowners for creating a hazard and no parking the village should be held to a least the same standard”

2018LeafPickupFlyer.rev .31 1

The village schedule had the leaves being picked up before the Thanksgiving holiday. Most of the houses followed directions and had leaves in the street as per the rules severely reducing street parking and restricting car traffic. They are all still there .
Many folks had visitors over the holiday who had no place to park as the village missed all of their published dates. If a homeowner caused this mess he would be fined, I understand the frustration. Why publish a schedule if it can be easily changed.? The poster is correct that if you can fine homeowners for creating a hazard and no parking the village should be held to a least the same standard.

Reader asks , “Can we get the landscaper fees reimbursed when the town does not come close to meeting their own published schedules? “

leaves3_theridgewoodblog

Can we get the landscaper fees reimbursed when the town does not come close to meeting their own published schedules? Weather events happen, build some contingency in the schedule or a recovery plan. This is not rocket science.
The town missing dates is ignored, if a resident does it they get a hefty fine. Town missing dates requires added resident efforts and or landscaper costs. It also creates a driving hazard for extended periods of time
For us, this is our last winter, Ridgewood has beat us at every level from leaves to parking fees, to obscene school costs, and just amateurs running the programs that are supposed to serve the residents. Too bad

Village Crews Started Collecting Leaves Placed Along the Curbline in the Street Beginning October 22,2018

2018LeafPickupFlyer.rev .31

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Village crews started collecting leaves placed along the curbline in the street beginning October 22,2018 and will continue through December 21st weather permitting. Designated yard waste area’s A-D will be used for leaf removal purposes .

The town has been accused of screwing up the leaf pick up across the board over the last 5 years, but there has been progress made the last couple of years in expediting the process . The Village can not control the weather  and many remember , “Christmas trees frozen into huge uncollected leaf piles. Like mountains on the moon..wet leaves frozen into the streets”

Readers Question Ridgewood Waters Involvement in Snow Removal and Leaf Pick up

RidgewoodWaterLogo_061912_rn_tif_

It was also recently reported that the Village’s new code enforcement officer (Ms. Tracey Jeffrey) was observed on South Monroe Street driving a vehicle with Rigewood Water logo emblazoned on the door. However, I suppose that the argument could be used that enforcement of the leaf pick up rules impacts water quality.

I observed countless vehicles emblazoned with the Ridgewood Water emblem engaged in snow removal activities on Ridgewood streets following last week’s blizzard. So it appears as though there is some merit to the lawsuit.
