NJ Transit Preps for Strike With Contingency Service Plan

Commuters Encouraged to Work From Home If Possible and Limit Traveling on the NJ TRANSIT System to Essential Purposes Only

Ridgewood NJ, As a result of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLET) membership voting down a tentative agreement reached between NJ TRANSIT and the BLET leadership, the BLET is threatening to disrupt the lives of more than 350,000 commuters by calling for a strike as early as Friday, May 16 at 12:01AM.  This would result in the complete suspension of NJ TRANSIT rail service, including Metro-North Railroad west of Hudson service.  In advance of such a stoppage, NJ TRANSIT has developed a contingency plan that would accommodate an extremely limited number of rail customers.  NJ TRANSIT strongly encourages all those who can work from home to do so and limit traveling on the NJ TRANSIT system to essential purposes only.

NJ Transit to Open the New Lyndhurst Station on Mainline

Lyndhurst NJ, NJ TRANSIT today celebrated the completion of construction of the new Lyndhurst rail station. President & CEO Kris Kolluri was joined by Congresswoman Nellie Pou, state Senator Paul Sarlo, Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, Bergen County Executive James Tedesco and Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso to showcase the new facility including its accessible features such as elevators and high-level platforms.  Trains will begin utilizing the new station June 8 to coincide with new rail schedules.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Village Manager Keith Kazmark recently joined Mayor Paul Vagianos and other Ridgewood representatives in a tour of the Franklin Avenue train station underpass alongside officials from NJ Transit. Kazmark emphasized that for over a year, the Village has been advocating for necessary repairs and maintenance to address the efflorescence and rust accumulating on the ceiling surfaces of the underpass—yet no action has been taken.

Hoboken Approves NJ Transit-LCOR Bus Terminal Redevelopment Project

Hoboken NJ , NJ TRANSIT  announced that construction has begun on an interim bus terminal near Hoboken Terminal, ushering in the next phase of the Hoboken Connect mixed-use project that will dramatically transform the historic waterfront area into a vibrant space for customers and the public. The interim bus terminal is expected to be completed this summer and will allow for the rehabilitation of the current bus terminal.

Village of Ridgewood Council Okays installation of Bus Shelter at Ridgewood High School

Ridgewood NJ, Village Council members have unanimously approved the installation of a prefabricated shelter at a current westbound NJ Transit bus stop serving RHS students (E. Ridgewood Ave. near the RHS tennis courts). The shelter will be similar in design to the one now in place on N. Monroe St, near W. Glen Ave. (see photos). Village Manager Keith Kazmark reported that the installation, on RHS property, has been approved by the Board of Education.

Newark NJ, five NJ Transit police officers have been awarded a collective $535,000 in settlements after filing lawsuits accusing a now-retired sergeant, Melvin Webb, of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The lawsuits, originally filed in Camden County state court in 2021, brought to light troubling allegations against Webb during his time as a supervisor.
