Paramus NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of MELVIN THOMAS (DOB: 04/05/1991; single; unemployed) of Paramus, NJ, on charges of murder, desecration of human remains, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon, and hindering. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Acting Chief Matthew Finck and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert M. Guidetti.

Paramus NJ, a man was repeatedly stabbed during a road rage incident late Thursday morning, 12/28, on Route 4 eastbound in Paramus in front of a lighting store. The victim was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus. Initial reports are that the victim sustained wounds in his back and on one (1) arm. Police are actively search for the perpetrator, an adult male who is said to have fled the scene in a white colored sedan. Paramus Police was assisted at the scene by multiple Bergen County law enforcement agencies.
Paramus NJ, the driver of a Nissan Kicks subcompact SUV was transported by a Paramus EMS ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus following an early Friday morning, 10/27, crash in which the Nissan slammed head on into a school bus at the intersection of East Midland Avenue and From Road, Paramus. There were no students on the Bergenfield Board of Education owned bus at the time and the bus driver was uninjured. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by tow trucks. Paramus Fire Department Engine Company #1 attended to a crash related fluid spill. The Nissan’s driver sustained a non life threatening facial injury. Schools open drive carefully .
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police issued one (1) summons in connection with an early Tuesday morning, 10/17, motor vehicle crash in which the driver of a white colored Tesla lost control of her vehicle while driving westbound on Grove Street, Ridgewood, veered off of the roadway, and down an embankment. No injuries were reported in the mishap, but it took two (2) tow trucks more than one (1) hour to remove the Tesla from its predicament. Paramus Police assisted with traffic control while the prolonged removal process took place.
Paramus NJ, a two (2) vehicle, early afternoon Friday the 13th rollover crash at the intersection of Paramus Road and Starling Court, Paramus temporarily closed Paramus Road in both directions at the crash site. One (1) individual was transported by Paramus EMS to Hackensack University Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Paramus Police Emergency Services Unit officers righted the KIA SUV that had rolled over after being T-boned by a Honda Pilot. A flatbed tow truck removed both heavily damaged vehicles from the scene.
Paramus NJ, No injuries were reported in connection with an early Tuesday afternoon, 10/10, motor vehicle crash in which an elongated, flatbed tractor-trailer knocked down a traffic control signal at the intersection of A&S Drive and Winters Avenue, Paramus. Paramus Police Emergency Services officers assisted the Borough’s Department of Public Works staff in the safe removal of the device from the truck’s bed.
Paramus NJ, rising flood waters prompted the late Friday afternoon, 09/29, closure of Dunkerhook Road at Paramus Road in Paramus, which is the primary means of egress for residents of several streets located just west of the closure point. After emergency personnel were unsuccessful at their Friday afternoon attempts to alleviate the flooding, Paramus OEM recommended the evacuation of all residences in the area as a safety precaution.
Ridgewood NJ, a Mercedes sedan was rear ended by a Jeep on westbound East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood near the Saddle River County Park Wild Duck Pond early Wednesday morning, 09/13. The impact resulted in the Jeep veering off of the roadway and crashing into a box housing communications & electrical equipment. No injuries were reported in the mishap. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Paramus Police assisted Ridgewood Police with traffic control and Ridgewood firefighters attended to a crash related fluid spill.
Paramus NJ, Paramus EMS transported one (1) victim to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus following a two (2) vehicle, Saturday afternoon collision at the intersection of Paramus Road and West Midland Avenue. The victim reportedly sustained non life threatening arm and facial injuries. Both vehicles, a Honda CRV and a Tesla, were towed from the scene. Paramus Police and the Paramus Police Reserves also responded.
Ridgewood NJ, a black colored Acura SUV occupied by an pregnant woman being rushed to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood early Wednesday morning, 09/06, was involved in a collision just minutes away from the hospital on Route 17 northbound at Linwood Avenue. The collision likely triggered birth of the baby, who was transported to the hospital’s emergency room along with mom and dad by the driver of a work van that may have also been involved in the collision. Mother, child, and father were reported to all be doing fine following the harrowing mishap. Ridgewood Police officers responded to the crash scene to retrieve personal items from the crashed Acura and to investigate the crash. The Acura was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Paramus Police assisted with traffic control.
Paramus NJ, a pedestrian was gravely injured when she was struck by a black colored SUV in the parking lot of ShopRite, 224 East Route 4 in Paramus shortly after 1 PM on Labor Day, Monday, 09/04. The victim was rushed by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center’s (HUMC) main campus. A paramedic team from HUMC was onboard the ambulance, and a Paramus Police Emergency Services Unit vehicle also assisted in the transport. Detectives from Paramus Police immediately began an investigation into the occurrence.
Fair Lawn NJ, a 4-door Toyota Camry driving southbound on Route 208 near Virginia Drive in Fair Lawn, careened off of the highway late Saturday night, 08/26, and crashed into the basement of a nearby garden apartment complex. The vehicle’s driver could not be located following the crash. Occupants of the struck building were asked to evacuate until the vehicle could be safely removed from the structure; structural damage was reported to have been significant. Evacuated residents standing outside reported observing water leaking in the basement. A technician from PSE&G’s Gas Division was on scene inspecting natural gas lines in the basement. No injuries to residents were reported. Paramus Police assisted Fair Lawn Police with traffic and crowd control. Fair Lawn FD Company #3 and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue also responded, along with an ambulance (for standby) from The Valley Hospital. K-9 units from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to assist.
UPDATE: The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody by Fair Lawn Police at a residence in Waldwick approximately two (2) hours after the crash occurred.
Paramus NJ, construction crews working near an exit ramp off of Route 4 westbound in Paramus on Thursday morning, 08/17, accidentally struck and punctured an unmarked 16 inch water main, which sent water cascading onto Route 4. No injuries were reported in the mishap, but traffic was slowed on Route 4 while crews dealt with the dilemma.
