Ridgewood DUI Suspect Arrested After Hit-and-Run Crash

A late Friday afternoon hit-and-run incident on June 21 led to the arrest of an adult male DUI suspect by Ridgewood Police patrol officers. The suspect, driving a black Nissan sedan, allegedly struck a parked, unoccupied Hyundai SUV on East Glen Avenue before continuing westbound and mounting a curb at the corner of Northern Parkway.

Three Individuals Reportedly Attacked by Dog(s) at Parkway School in Paramus

Paramus NJ, three (3) individuals were reportedly attacked by a loose dog(s) on the Lower Field of the Parkway School in Paramus shortly before 11:00 am on Thursday, 03/14. Preliminary information from the scene indicated that one (1) adult and two (2) children were injured. Multiple Paramus Police officers rushed to aid the victims along with two (2) ambulances and two (2) Paramus EMS supervisory/support staff members. Injuries sustained by the victims were said to have been minor and non-life threatening in nature. An individual walking three (3) dogs on leashes was seen being interviewed by police officers after leaving the athletic/playing field area and securing the dogs in a privately owned vehicle. There was no word from police officers at the scene as to whether those dogs were involved in the incident. A representative of Tyco Animal Control also responded to the location; no dog(s) were in her possession when she departed the school property.

Exotic Snake Found on Valley View Avenue in Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, a resident walking his dog along Valley View Avenue found an exotic snake slinking down the street on Monday afternoon. Tyco Animal Control was dispatched to take possession of the snake until the owner is found. The snake was reportedly a Corn Snake.

Ridgewood Police Interrupt Deer Date

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer Michael Karcher was dispatched to the Hopper Ridge Condominium property at approximately Noon on Tuesday, 11/22, in response to a resident’s telephone call reporting a doe trapped in a retention pond area. Assisted by an employee of Tyco Animal Control, Officer Karcher determined that the doe was not trapped, but was hiding in the area due to the presence of a large buck nearby. The doe was able to successfully escape from the area shortly thereafter, with the buck in chase.

Rabid Wildlife Alert in Saddle River : Sick fox that attacked a residents dog has tested positive for Rabies

Saddle River NJ, last week patrol units were dispatched to a neighborhood off of Chestnut Ridge Rd for a report of a sick fox in the yard.   Upon arrival, patrol found the animal to be visibly sick and witnessed it attack a resident’s dog.  Patrol was able to capture the fox and surrender it to TYCO Animal Control for testing.  Thursday afternoon Saddle River Police were advised that the Fox has tested positive for rabies.

Elderly Ridgewood Man Bit by Dog in Glen Rock

Glen Rock NJ, the Glen Rock Police report that at 11:53 a.m. on Thursday November 12th , patrols were dispatched to the Rock Road Central Business District to investigate a report of a man sitting on a bench bleeding. The victim, a 93-year-old Ridgewood man, stated he was walking on the sidewalk when a dog ran out from a lobby door leading to second floor apartments. The dog then lunged at the man and bit his left wrist. The victim was treated on scene by EMT’s and refused further medical attention. Officers were able to identify the dog and its owner. The matter has been referred to TYCO Animal Control. Incidents of this nature are investigated by Animal Control in cooperation with Bergen County Health Services.

Glen Rock Police and Tyco Animal Control Rescue Hawk

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Police report that just before 10 AM P.O. Bob Surdyka responded to Isabella Place where a concerned resident had found a Hawk in distress laying in their driveway. With a little tender care and persuasion, P.O. Surdyka was able to convince the Hawk to ride with him back to Police HQ where he was picked up by Tyco Animal Control. The Hawk has since been taken to Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital for treatment and will hopefully be released to go on his way! Special thanks to P.O. Surdyka and TYCO Animal Control for going above and beyond to help one of our natural wildlife neighbors!

Plastic Pumpkin Removed from Deer’s head in Upper Saddle River

Upper Saddle River NJ, a deer with a plastic pumpkin stuck on its head  was wondering the Borough of Upper Saddle River for days . The Upper Saddle River Police had issued an, “If anyone spots the deer with the pumpkin on its head please call the USRPD at 201-327-2700 immediately with exact location. We have a team searching for it. Thank you.” .The deer has been found and the pumpkin removed. Outstanding work by TYCO Animal Control and the NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife.

Ridgewood NJ, at Wednesday night’s Village Council meeting, the Village Council appointed three Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officers . Carol Tyler, Kimberly Nagle and Kristen Gunderson, officers of Tyco Animal Control, were sworn in by Mayor Ramon Hache as Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officers, upon the recommendation of Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke .

Ridgewood Nj, Ridgewood firefighters assisted a representative from Tyco Animal Control Services in freeing a baby deer that became trapped in a fence on the grounds of the West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street, Ridgewood on Saturday afternoon, 07/02. The deer was uninjured and after being freed and examined by rescuers, ran away to rejoin its mother.

Authorities Tranquilize Black Bear Roaming Around Ridgewood, NJ

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – A black bear reportedly roaming around Ridgewood, New Jersey, was tranquilized by authorities Saturday.

According to posts on the Ridgewood Police Department’s social media accounts, the 175-pound bear was roaming the community earlier but was removed by the New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Ridgewood police tell WCBS 880 a call came in at about 8:10 a.m. about a bear in the area heading into town.
