Selection process for Student Representatives to Ridgewood Board of Education – Is it inclusive?

Ridgewood NJ, the upcoming appointment of a Student Representative to the Ridgewood Board of Education for the school year 2023-2024 prompts The Ridgewood Blog to question the current selection/appointment process (or lack thereof).  That is, does a documented selection process for these prestigious appointments exist, or does someone in authority just get to pick/appoint whomever they want to?

Ridgewood Football Names Torre Watson as New Head Coach

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Football Names Torre Watson as New Head Coach . The 50-year old Ridgewood graduate, whose family has been part of the community for generations, was named the Maroons’ new head football coach Monday night at the Ridgewood Board of Education meeting. Watson graduated from Ridgewood in 1991 and went to Westchester University, where he played football. His grandmother graduated from Ridgewood in 1932, his mother in 1966. His uncle played for the Maroons, he coached his nephew in the early 2010s.

Ridgewood Public Schools Announces Schools will be Closed Friday, May 26, 2023

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Ridgewood Board of Education ,each year, Ridgewood Public Schools incorporates emergency closing days into our school calendar. This year, the District did not use all of the allotted days. Therefore, after reviewing the calendar for the remainder of the current school year, the district has decided that schools will be closed Friday, May 26, 2023 provided there is no need for the use of an additional emergency day prior to that date.

Ridgewood NJ, on Monday evening, 03/07, Mr. Andrew Parente, a partner in the Fair Lawn based financial auditing firm of Lerch, Vinci & Higgins, LLP, informed BOE members that $729k in BOE funds were spent during the 2021-2022 school year without their required approval (expenditures in excess of the $44k bid threshold require BOE approval via resolution). Ridgewood Board of Education (BOE) budget – 0% tax increase?

Ridgewood NJ, during Monday evening’s BOE meeting, Interim Ridgewood Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leonard Fitts hinted that this year’s proposed BOE budget COULD result in a 0% related property tax increase. Our readers no doubt recall that the municipal budget will likely result in a related property tax increase of 3.96% or more (Yikes!). It would appear at this point that BOE members will easily win this year’s Ridgewood Taxpayer Appreciation Award.

Ridgewood NJ, Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, on February 12 in 1809. He lived for a time in Indiana before moving to Illinois. He worked on a farm, split rails for fences, worked in a store, was a captain in the Black Hawk War, and worked as a lawyer. He married Mary Todd and together they had four boys, only one of whom lived to maturity.
