NJ TRANSIT INTRODUCES AGENCY’S FIRST BATTERY ELECTRIC BUS

Camden NJ, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett was joined by Congressman Donald Norcross along with local, county and state officials and other stakeholders today to introduce the agency’s first battery electric bus that will soon be entering revenue service. The major milestone is an historic moment for the nation’s largest statewide transit provider and sets the stage for the planned transition to a complete fleet of zero-emission buses by 2040 aligned with Governor Murphy’s Energy Master Plan. This also reinforces the Murphy Administration’s commitment to New Jersey’s environmental justice communities.

NJ Transit: Masks No Longer Required

Masks will no longer be required on NJ TRANSIT and by South Jersey Transportation Authority. Individuals may wear a mask based on personal preference, informed by personal level of risk.

The Governor will also directly appoint Rashonda Brown and Karen Thomas to serve on the board. As the Murphy Administration continues to improve and invest in NJ TRANSIT, the new members will bring “fresh and diverse” perspectives to the Board.

Governor Signs the Motorbus and Passenger Rail Service Employee Violence Prevention Act

Trenton NJ,  Governor Murphy today signed the Motorbus and Passenger Rail Service Employee Violence Prevention Act (S4701) to create new tools for protecting transit workers throughout the state. In addition to upgrading the penalty for all assaults on a motorbus or autobus operator, an operator’s supervisor, or a rail passenger employee, the bill enables NJ TRANSIT and other carriers to suspend or prohibit from ridership individuals who commit assaults against employees and ensures NJ TRANSIT and private bus companies equip all buses and trains with communications systems to quickly contact law enforcement in an emergency.
