Ridgewood Nj, We picked this post up from it Takes a Ridgewood Village page on Facebook.We had to read it twice I could not believe it .

from Audra Guscott Shelko‎

Hi everyone. I’m looking for some help. My son, John, was riding his bike home from Ridgewood Cycle yesterday, May 14th . Around 3:30PM he was struck on his bike by an SUV in the Ben & Jerry’s intersection. The car threw him from the bike, and ran over the bike but was able to stop before hitting him again while on the ground. The driver asked if he was OK and then left. She didn’t get out to wait with him for help, offer to call mom or ask how he was getting home on a broken bike. I called the police when he got home and John wasn’t able to provide much information. It happened quickly and he was pretty shaken up.

Other drivers stopped to ask if he was OK but no one contacted the police. So I’m posting to see if anyone was at Ben & Jerry’s, East Coast Burger or in town for sidewalk sale days and saw/heard anything. If so, please contact the Ridgewood Police or me at audra.shelko@gmail.com.

New Ridgewood Council Needs to press Valley Hospital to Contribute

valley_hospital_theridgewoodblog
May 15,2016
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood Nj, a reader commented that , “hopefully the new Council pushes hard on challenging Valley’s not-for-profit status. If we can capture $4.5mn in annual property taxes from Valley for everything they own in Ridgewood, then the property tax burden on residents could be reduced. This would be enlightened tax policy from the new Council and smarter governance. They pay their CEO $2mn a year to run a single hospital – not a system – and acquire every building they can yet pay no property taxes?!?! Not fair to village residents who effectively subsidize their public safety services, snow plowing around the local roads by Valley’s properties (which get removed from rateables), etc. time to pay your fair share.”

New Jersey courts have established a three-part test that, in essence, provides that for an organization to be entitled to property tax exemption, it must show that:

1. it is organized exclusively for a charitable purpose (or other qualifying purpose enumerated in the statute);
2. its property is actually used for such a charitable purpose (or the specific qualifying purpose applicable to that organization); and
3. its use and operation of the property is not for profit.

Morristown Hospital failed the third test, so will Valley.

Ridgewood NJ, To the delight of what appeared to be every small child living in Ridgewood, selected Ridgewood EMS, fire, and police personnel (along with about one half dozen of their specialized motor vehicles) participated in the annual Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce “Touch-A-Truck” event on Thursday, 05/12. The event was held in Van Neste Square, the epicenter of RIdgewood’s Central Business District. Several staff members of the Ridgewood Public Library were on hand to conduct a truck related “Story Time” in the park next to the display of Village owned motor vehicles. Ridgewood Councilman Michael Sedon was one of several parent spotted racing from truck to truck during the well attended event.

Scott Garrett (NJ-05) will be hosting young legislators from 35 New Jersey high schools in Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren counties (full list below) at the third annual Model Congress this Saturday in Ridgewood. The Model Congress is an educational event for students where they will replicate a day in the life of a Congressperson in the U.S. House of Representatives. The event is open to all media, but please observe an embargo on this information until Saturday at 9am.

About:  The Model Congress gives students a first-hand opportunity to learn how Congress works by allowing them to research legislation currently being considered in the U.S. House of Representatives, break into committees to further examine and debate the legislation, and finally bring the legislation to the House floor for a vote. Students will be assigned to represent different states, but not specific political parties. This is a nonpartisan event. Each school in New Jersey’s Fifth District was invited to recommend two students for the Model Congress, and awards will be given for best debater, best consensus builder, best speaker, best research, best counterargument, and leadership at the end of the event.
