Ridgewood NJ, Results from the semi-annual National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) were released this morning.  The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), first administered in 1969, is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in subjects such as mathematics, reading, science, and writing.  The results of NAEP are released as The Nation’s Report Card, and are available for the nation, states, and in some cases, urban districts.  Teachers, principals, parents, policymakers, and researchers all use NAEP results to assess progress and develop ways to improve education in the United States.

Ridgewood School Board Choses LAN Associates without a bid process

DSC 0024
Saurabh Dani emailed the Ridgewood school board:

LAN Associates provided a document yesterday at the tour of Somerville school, which estimated the projected cost of the referendum FOR Somerville school to be $6,180,410.

This cost is estimated to the last dollar amount, and then during the tour, he mentioned that he is not yet certain which boiler is he going to recommend for Somerville (i.e. standard efficiency or high efficiency). How did LAN arrive at a dollar amount, without those details?

Ridgewood NJ, Resident Saurabh Dani posted the following on the Facebook page, “It Takes a Ridgewood Village”, reminding the Ridgewood blog that many years ago (2006?) the BOE was dead set on adding fiberoptic connections through Verizon when clearly the technology existed for broadband wifi connections though out the Ridgewood School system. The better technology was rebuffed for the “done deal” with Verizon.

Ridgewood NJ, The Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition (“IAOVC”), a nationwide coalition of anti-bias activists, has assembled a Task Force, comprised of a wide array of Italian American organizations, to demand that the National Education Association (“NEA”) overturn its Resolution, passed at the NEA National Convention last month, to eliminate Columbus Day.

“As a former teacher and Italian American I am outraged that the NEA launched this attack on Columbus Day, using their pulpit to poison the minds of children with the overblown, false, non-factual narrative about the history of Columbus,” stated Dr. Manny Alfano, Founder and President of IAOVC. “This is not only an attack on Italian Americans it is an attack against all Western culture, using Columbus as a figurehead. This is Anti-Italian and Anti-American.”

NJEA: New Jersey’s Political Machine

Ridgewood NJ, Who is funding New Direction New Jersey, the dark money group supporting Governor Murphy’s agenda?

No surprise: it’s New Jersey’s most powerful special interest, the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA).  This $2.5 million in surreptitious spending is just one example of how the NJEA obscures its political activities from the public and even its own members.  There are many others.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood High School leaves the RHS Stadium lights on. Beside a wast of tax payer money it shows and extreme lack of
eco-consciousness , after all according to some of you the world is going to end in less than 12 years , you would think you would at least make some effort ?

Boyd loving reported, ” RHS Stadium and Stevens Field field lights were on all evening with not a single sole playing/practicing on either field since the moment lights were turned on.

Go ahead, make my day by telling me that it’s cheaper/more energy efficient to leave the lights on then to have them turned off when the field is not in use.”

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Crew entered 14 events at this weekend’s Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association’s City Championship Regatta with only Lower Merion, PA; Montclair, NJ and Springside Chestnut Hill, PA entering more. Delightful weather on Saturday encouraged crowds along the Schuylkill River for the qualifying heats while the finals and semifinals on Sunday couldn’t have been soggier. The wet conditions did nothing to dampen the athletes’ moral, with 11 boats advanced to the finals and 5 boats earning medals.
