Midland Park NJ, A downed tree blocked a section of North Monroe Street in Midland Park and Ridgewood on Sunday morning, 09/03. Midland Park Police and Ridgewood Police responded to the incident along with Ridgewood Emergency Services. The tree was removed by an employee of the Village of Ridgewood’s Shade Tree Division. No injuries, property damage, nor utility outages were reported,

Ridgewood NJ, More than 1,300 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations across the country including Ridgewood are partnering with the Houston Food Bank and Corpus Christi Food Bank to help Texas residents impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
This two-part program provides needed donations to the two local food banks:
From Monday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 17, participating Jersey Mike’s locations will donate $1 for every regular sized #7 Turkey Breast and Provolone sub sold.
Through a grassroots program in September, Jersey Mike’s will hand out special cards in local communities nationwide offering a free sub for a $2 donation to the food banks. Cards can be redeemed in participating restaurants from Friday, Sept. 15, through Friday, Dec. 1.
“We want to let people know about the fundraiser so they can come together and join us in this national effort to help all those affected by the devastation in the Greater Houston and Corpus Christi areas,” said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO, Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems. “We are grateful to our local owners, managers, and crews who dropped everything to make sub sandwiches for thousands of people in need as well as for fire departments, EMS and other first responders.”
John Enterline, Houston area director, Jersey Mike’s, who is heading up local efforts, said, “Our focus at the local level is on feeding as many people as possible who are in need and in shelters, as well as providing sustenance to first responders so they can continue their life saving work. We appreciate the support from our customers across the country as well as from the Jersey Mike’s system as we start to rebuild as a community.”
All franchisees and team members are safe, and all locations are now open, according to Enterline.
Jersey Mike’s is a fixture in Texas neighborhoods, with 16 locations in the Houston area and two in Corpus Christi. The company expects to raise at least half a million dollars for the food banks.
“There are a lot of people down here in Texas who have lost homes and livelihoods,” said Dalton Stewart, a Jersey Mike’s area director in Dallas, who brought down a team to help colleagues make subs in Houston. “It doesn’t surprise me that the Jersey Mike’s family would step up in these difficult times to make a difference.”
Stewart added that Jersey Mike’s locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are feeding evacuees at local shelters as well as at the Red Cross Command Center there.

Los Angles CA, The Los Angeles Chargers are making a change at kicker this season.The Chargers released third-year kicker Josh Lambo on Saturday, ceding the starting kicker job to rookie Younghoe Koo.
Lambo was 2-for-2 in the preseason with a long of 53, while Koo was 1-for-1.
Koo ,a graduate of Benjamin Franklin Middle School and Ridgewood High School ,is a rookie out of Georgia Southern, was born in South Korea before moving to the United States in 2006. The first-year pro was Georgia Southern’s first All-American and ranked second in the country in field goal percentage (95 percent).
Koo is probably best known on the for this insane trick kick.

Ridgewood Public Schools will open on Wednesday, September 6th. Please be mindful of excited children walking to and from school and always be prepared to stop for school crossing guards.
Everyone should expect delays and congestion around the schools as parents and commuters learn to navigate through the increased school-related traffic at this time of year. If you are driving in the area, leave yourself a little extra time and please be patient.
The next Regular Public Meeting of the Ridgewood Board of Education will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Education Center, 49 Cottage Place, Floor 3 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be aired live on television, FiOS channel 33 and Optimum channel 77, and streamed via the “Link in Live” tab on the district website at www.ridgewood.k12.nj.us. Meeting webcasts are generally posted to the district website within 48 hours.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Water comments on the evaluation of Water Quality for Future Water Purchases.
Ridgewood Water wishes to provide its customers with an update on its plan to evaluate the potential impacts of purchasing water from SUEZ Water in the future. By way of background, Ridgewood Water purchases water from Suez to supplement the groundwater supply and maintain adequate supply and pressure during the summer months, when water usage is increased. As our customers are aware, Ridgewood Water began adding a corrosion control treatment to the groundwater supply over a year ago. This treatment helps to reduce lead and copper corrosion from home plumbing such as metal water taps, interior water pipes, or pipes connecting a house to the main water pipe in the street. Since the introduction of the treatment, a significant reduction in lead and copper levels has been observed. SUEZ Water has recently informed Ridgewood Water that it will begin introducing a different corrosion control treatment, zinc orthophosphate, to its water supply in October 2017. Ridgewood Water is concerned that blending the two corrosion control treatments could produce unknown water quality impacts.
In order to study the impacts of blending the different corrosion control treatments, an engineering consultant, Mott MacDonald, has been hired to set up testing rigs in the Ridgewood Water and SUEZ systems. These testing rigs will simulate the blending process and allow for controlled testing for any unknown/adverse impacts. Ridgewood Water has informed SUEZ Water that it will cease to purchase water until such time that sufficient, satisfactory testing and evaluation has occurred. Mott MacDonald will also perform a modeling assessment to determine the feasibility of replacing the SUEZ water supply with other sources in the event that purchasing from SUEZ is no longer an option.

For the second year in a row, I am happy to report that the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce has entered a team in CancerCare’s 30th Annual Walk/Run for Hope, which will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Bergen Community College. Shelley Kohen, of Creative Solutions, is our fearless leader!
What is the Walk/Run for Hope?
The Walk/Run for Hope provides participants and attendees with an opportunity to come together to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and support people impacted by cancer. The event, which is celebrating its 30th year, is a USATF-NJ sanctioned and certified 5K and walk that raises funds for CancerCare’s free supportive services and programs for New Jersey patients, caregivers and loved ones affected by cancer.
In addition to the 5K, the event includes a children’s Fun Run (complete with medals for all participants) and activities for kids of all ages. Locally sponsored snacks and beverages are available for all participants and volunteers.

The 5K is a walk or run hosted at Garden State Plaza and the Half Marathon will begin and end at Garden State Plaza but will primarily be hosted in the Saddle River County Park up to the Glen Rock Duck Pond.

One of the sisters, Constance Kopp, even was named a deputy Bergen County sheriff, one of the first American women to hold that rank.

Ridgewood NJ, Colleen Gieniec, Kathy Kiedaisch are honored at Convocation with the Ashby Award (Colleen) and Tradition of Excellence Award (Kathy).
The Ashby Award was established in 1966 to honor former Superintendent Lloyd Ashby and his wife, Lois, for their distinguished service to the community. The recipient is selected from nominees submitted by staff members and is someone who, in the opinion of his or her peers, has upheld the Ashby tradition of service and contribution. This is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a Ridgewood staff member.
The Ridgewood Board of Education established the Tradition of Excellence Award in 2014 to honor a member of the support staff, who in the opinion of their peers has made an outstanding contribution to the excellence of the Ridgewood Public Schools.

In 1982 the village of Ridgewood sold a small park on Broad Street to Bergen County for $60,000. Thirty-plus years later, that sale is costing the village in state funds that are being withheld until 1.9 acres of land is purchased and maintained as public green space.
The search for replacement parkland is ongoing. Village Manager Heather Mailander would not share details of the search, as it involves negotiations with property owners, but said, “I’m expecting to brief the council on that during an executive session very soon.”
She has, she said, identified multiple locations for the council’s consideration.
The state Department of Environmental Protection discovered the sale of 308-316 South Broad Street in 2012, several decades after the county constructed affordable town houses on the land, which stand there today.

NJ TRANSIT FULL RESTORATION OF PSNY SERVICE SEPTEMBER 5
Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT plans to restore full service at Penn Station New York (PSNY) on Tuesday, September 5th following confirmation by Amtrak today that Phase One of their track renewal project has concluded. As a result, all Morris & Essex Lines (M&E) Midtown Direct trains will resume service to and from PSNY and will no longer be diverted to Hoboken. North Jersey Coast Line trains also will resume operating into Hoboken Terminal.
“I want to thank our customers for their patience and flexibility during the summer months,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Steven H. Santoro. “While many had to adjust their personal schedules, we tried to provide them with enough options and support to make the transition as smooth as possible. We also monitored travel patterns throughout the summer and made service adjustments as needed.”
New NJ TRANSIT weekday rail schedules will take effect Tuesday, September 5th, following a two-month modified service plan that enabled Amtrak to complete a series of major infrastructure projects aimed at improving reliability and safety at PSNY.
With the anticipated resumption of full service at PSNY, NJ TRANSIT’s alternate travel options, discounted fares and cross-honoring will conclude. Morning peak-period express buses from Morristown, Madison, Summit, Maplewood, South Orange and Newark Broad Street to the Port Authority Bus Terminal will no longer operate. Cross-honoring with private bus carriers, PATH and NY Waterway will end on Saturday, September 2nd at 3 a.m.
NY Waterway’s new ferry service between Hoboken and West 39th Street in NY which was operated at the request of NJ TRANSIT, will continue to operate after full service is restored at PSNY and be available to the general public. It is important to note this ferry service will no longer cross-honor NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes after September 1st.
“I also want to thank our transportation partners – particularly PATH and New York Waterway, communities, elected officials and countless NJ TRANSIT employees who helped to make the service plan work as smoothly as it did,” added Executive Director Santoro.
To assist customers during the summer schedule, NJ TRANSIT installed new LED pilot screens at Hoboken Terminal that display every station served by trains at Hoboken in alphabetical order, along with the time of the next scheduled train to each station and the track number assigned to that train when it is available. This sign will remain in place, bringing long-term benefits for all Hoboken customers. Following feedback, NJ TRANSIT will look to procure a permanent sign that is weather-resistant.
As a reminder, all fare discounts, substitute and enhanced bus services, as well as cross-honoring on bus, rail, light rail, PATH and NY Waterway ferry services in effect during the modified schedule between July 10 and September 1 is expected to end at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2nd. Additionally, new weekday rail schedules are expected to take effect Tuesday, September 5th.
Labor Day Weekend service: NJ TRANSIT rail service will operate on a regular weekend schedule on September 2nd and 3rd. Note: Weekend service has not been affected by the PSNY repair work. All weekend Midtown Direct trains operate to/from PSNY.

For Monday, September 4th, trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule. Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule. River Line will operate on a Sunday schedule.
