Ridgewood NJ, So here’s a possible solution brought to our attention by a regular reader ;to funding the proposed parking garage in Ridgewood. Ridgewood  Real-estate agents pay careful attention .Construct the garage either partially or entirely as a condominium. That is, offer the parking spaces for sale to individuals, businesses, and/or investors. Those who choose not to use the space(s) they purchased can rent them out.

As investors, Buying individual parking spaces is a little known but extremely appealing real estate play for small investors like Ms. Jones. The obvious selling points are comparatively low prices, steady income, next to no maintenance, and wear and tear limited to the odd oil stain on the cement. The spaces could be rented like airbnb , no noisy neighbors to worry about . SpotHero, an app that helps car owners locate spaces in the United States and Canada, lists mostly excess vacancies in hotel garages. But Larry Kiss, a founder of the company, said he has noticed more independent listers offering spaces on the site, whether it’s an extra space in their home garage or driveway or a space they have purchased. we have to be careful though , Parking investors do face an uncertain future, though. If more people start driving electric cars, spaces without charging stations will be less desirable. Don’t Ridgewood families deserve better?

“Disappointing” “Highly unfortunate” “Unnecessary” this gentleman is the leader and chief of one of the most recognized and largest schools districts on northern NJ. All he cares about is nothing that it was not during school hours. Yet the most damming angle of this is the bullying is concerning ANOTHER bullying experience that has been active for some time.
“I can’t believe what you say, because I see what you do.”
Don’t Ridgewood families deserve better? If you care about nothing else and you may care about your housing values when no one wants to move to your town because you school and it’s ineptitude are plastered all over NYC/NJ news.That was yesterday.

Fall back : Day Light Saving Time Officially Ended at 2am this Morning

Ridgewood NJ, hope you enjoyed that extra hour of sleep . This morning Sunday, Nov. 5, daylight saving time at 2 a.m. officially came to an end and you were granted an extra hour of sleep by turning your clocks back one hour to 1 a.m.

The easiest way to handle it traditionally was to change all your clocks before bed. Another option is hitting the bar since you’ll get an extra hour of party time! Sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier on Nov. 5 and there will be more light in the morning.

Reader says Ridgewood needs prompt, clear transparent action

Can we assume that our transparent administration has immediately suspended the wresting team ? How could we possibly allow them to continue to compete with a Ridgewood school sponsor?
Can we expect our police department to execute arrests in the near future ? Can it really take 10days to get the details ?
Can we assume that we will see a number of kids expelled ?
This can not be allowed to just be swept away, nor is this a time for counseling as suggested by the administration. We need prompt, clear transparent action to let everyone know that bullying, gang fighting, team pack mentality, and not doing the right thing will not be tolerated at all

Reader says let the actual facts emerge before embracing or making accusations

There are conflicting stories about who and what instigated the dispute that led to this prearranged fight so perhaps it’s best for the generally uninformed, myself included, to let the actual facts emerge before embracing or making accusations that may be false or even libelous.. This is after all the age of hasty reporting that sometimes lays out a storyline that is later change after proper investigation. As far as students attending and videoing, many seem shocked and disappointed by that circus like happening. Unfortunately this is the environment that our kids grow up in where social media is extensively used and sensationalized., a generation where UFC and Kardashian type entertainment reigns . Thankfully, some students appear to have interceded after the injured boy collapsed after a second punch landed .Here ‘s the reality : Fights, raging parties and hard drugs happen here in Ridgewood, most times they don’t lead to bad injuries, outcomes. or overdoses. When they do, there is a knee jerk reaction with much condemnation and efforts to place blame. .The only certainty right now is that we all should be praying for the injured boy to fully recover.

Ridgewood Resident Runs For President of the United States Soccer Federation

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood resident Michael S. Winograd is running for President of US Soccer. Winograd played Division I college soccer at Lafayette College and professionally in Israel. In 2005, he was a member of the silver medal U.S. Maccabiah Masters soccer team. He served as an assistant Men’s Soccer coach at the University of Richmond, where, in addition to his coaching, recruiting and scouting duties, he helped organize and manage the largest NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Final Four in NCAA history. He has coached at numerous youth soccer camps, including the University of Virginia and Phillips Exeter Academy residential camps. In a 2013 letter to the NSCAA Director of Coaching, former Richmond Head Coach Jeff Gettler remarked that in his 36 years of college head coaching and over 16 years of serving as a USSF and NSCAA staff coach, Winograd was “easily” one of the top people he had worked with.” Gettler went on to describe Winograd as “an outstanding individual with a dynamic way with people” and praised his “ability to communicate” and “depth of knowledge.”

Like many of you, I am concerned with the current state of US Soccer particularly as it relates to the progress on the field and increasingly fractured nature of its constituency. US Soccer has made great strides, but the systemic problems that have been building over time are taking a serious toll. After sharing some of my ideas on how to move forward with folks around the country, I have been persuaded to run for President of the Federation by many who have already cast their support behind my candidacy. I now ask that you join our movement to make US Soccer better.

Like many of you, I have invested thousands of hours in the sport as an athlete, parent and member of my community out of a love for the game and desire to help soccer in this country grow and improve. I have played soccer at the youth, collegiate and professional levels, coached at the youth and collegiate levels, and managed at the youth and professional levels.

Like many of you, I have also held down a full-time job while continuing to stay involved in soccer. For the last 17 years, I have been a corporate attorney in New York City representing some of the largest companies, domestic and foreign, in high stakes cases and negotiations, and have been an adjunct law professor since 2003. At the same time, I have raised two children with my wife in Ridgewood, NJ, both of whom play the game.

Like many of you, I believe we need change within the Federation. It is time that issues such as the process and transparency by which critical decisions are made, the clarity and effectiveness of our development path for young athletes, the disparate treatment of the US women’s programs, and the prohibitive costs for player participation and coaching education are addressed and resolved through collaborative efforts.

I pledge to work with all of US Soccer’s members, create merit-based committees, and ensure transparency in taking a fresh look at and resolving these and other issues. There is no magic talisman to effect these necessary changes. It will take intelligence, fairness and candor, as well as a deep understanding of the game from all perspectives. It will take diligence, hard work and perseverance. My soccer experiences, on and off the field, as well as my experience as a corporate lawyer and educator have prepared me to serve as President of our Federation.

Like all of you, I pledge to put the good of the game first. Thank you for your support.

Ridgewood NJ, Village seniors , we all have something to be grateful for.  Let’s celebrate together with a nutritious and delicious home cooked Thanksgiving dinner.  Musical entertainment will be provided.

Ridgewood Parks and Recreation and HealthBarn Foundation invite Ridgewood senior residents to join us for the Giving Thanks Elder Dinner, to be held Sunday, November 12th, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at the Old Paramus Reformed Church, 660 E. Glen Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ   07450.

They are donating 25% of all soup sales in November to the Social Service Association of Ridgewood.

Hopefully, soup weather is finally here, and we can really make a difference in time for the holidays for those in need.

Reader says No amount of words will ever change the fact that forcing an artificial reality

The original poster (Reader Attempts to explain the flawed logic behind the Garber Square Traffic Mess) is lots of bloviating to “add gravitas” to a series of conjured up assumptions and desires in an attempt to force a narrow vision of “utopia” (which really translates to a state of misery) upon the “ignorant masses” (in this case RW residents)
No amount of words will ever change the fact that forcing an artificial reality (misguided utopia) upon the people does not change the actual reality nor will the imposition of a forced artificial “utopia” change the actions of the people.
The prudent, common sense and responsible thing to do would be to ACCOMODATE the desires of the people while trying to make the situation safer and “better” (for example, scarifying the asphalt).
Unfortunately common sense is no longer taught nor valued in America.

Just curious… is the OP a product of a Ridgewood education?

Or is the Record, with the article that just came out on what happened: that there was fight and a child is in the hospital with a fractured skull and may lose the sight of one eye, is the Record more transparent than Dr. Fishbein. Is the Record article appropriate.

Should Dr. Fishbein have just stated openly and forthrightly to the public what happened. Would that have been more or less transparent, appropriate.

The children who have not come forward as witnesses and who may have videos of the fight and who may have not intervened during the fight, is that behavior similar to Dr. Fishbein’s not being open about what happened.

Could children be learning violence and cowardice and fear of being open and honest from we adults.

Betsy the Sheep has a court date with the Village of Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, “Well once again it is about Betsy our Sheep. We have been summoned to court on November 9th @4:30pm by the town of Ridgewood because we had Betsy on the sidewalk in front of our store. The town deems her unsafe. It’s not like she is running around or grazing. She is an icon. Help Save Our Sheep! Come into any of our locations and sign our petition for the Ridgewood Mayor and Council to permit Betsy to adorn our store.”

By all accounts , ” stone planters are illegal if anybody gets hurt by one or hits one with your car they are responsible person Who installed it”

Reader says Traffic is far worse since the bike lane

There is no argument you can make about a bike lane vs the underpass for safety. Traffic is far worse since the lane, this has been documented again and again. Everything residents warned the council would happen, did. The original design called for an even more narrow roadway. The village has started down the right path to improve the busiest east west intersection in the village. When a proper left turn signal is added we’ll be better off. Then, when all the high density housing from John Saraceno is built, the intersection will go back to being a mess. Thanks Paul, Al, Gwenn, and Roberta

Reader says just say no Complete Streets in Ridgewood

All I know is that it is very dangerous to drive a car, like an ordinary Honda Accord sedan under the trestle since it has been made so small, and I live on east side of town and when I go to farmer’s market I go a circuitous route to avoid having to go under the trestle. Also other times I have to go to west side of town I avoid the trestle NOW THAT IT IS SO TINY.

Hey, my experiential perception and sense when I drive tells me that it was safer before they narrowed the lanes under the trestle. AND I have lived here on east side for 40 years. Don’t go telling me that I am safer in a tiny lane. I’m not.

What I see, is that Ridgewood’s streets are too narrow for Complete Streets. Complete Streets would cause many car accidents.

When leaves are put on streets, or landscape trucks or now the many delivery trucks you put your life in your hands driving around them. Especially NOW with all the Distracted Drivers, as they call them, Hey, even Gov. Christie’s wife.

The streets are TOO NARROW for bike lanes. The streets are historic. They were created before big vehicles were invented. Get real, Mr. Complete Streets. Young professionals in town drive cars, maybe not in NYC , but in Ridgewood they drive cars. Everyone drives cars here: The tall and the short, the fat and the thin, the rich and the poor, the old and the young. We all drive cars. Hallelujah. All God’s children drive cars.

Now, don’t get to thinkin I like that. I don’t. I was against cars WAY BACK 50 years ago. I like buses and street cars. Yes, I lived in states where those existed. But hey, all I wanna do is have some fun, and not get killed or maimed in a car accident. So please no Complete Streets in Ridgewood, NJ.

Paving the lane green and calling it a bike lane does not make it safe, nor does it make Ridgewood more bike friendly. Narrowing capacity for one of three major arteries for vehicles in town is not the ideal location for a bike lane, and nobody is complaining about speeding there. Try a bike lane on Monroe, Lincoln, or Linwood, aves for starters. Those are roads connected to others that are fairly wide and single lane filled with speeding cars. Bike lane at Garber square always was and still is an awful idea with awful execution.

And btw, 5 years on the safety committee (or any committee) is too long. Your time is up.

Important Message from Superintendent of Schools

Dear Ridgewood Public School Community,

This week the Ridgewood High School Administration has been investigating a serious student incident that rose to the level of police involvement following a thorough, deliberate and confidential exploration of the facts. The incident involved the misuse of social media, destruction of school property and violence.

It is important to address and dispel rumors that are circulating in our community and to ask for your understanding that this issue, like all student issues that involve minors and are also part of a student’s record, is, and will remain, confidential. Just as we protect the privacy of your child’s record, we are compelled to do the same for all children involved in this incident. For this reason, we cannot comment on the episode or on the eventual outcome, but I do want to reassure you as both a parent and also as your Superintendent, that I trust the administration to act in the best interest of all the students involved, as well as the entire school community. Anyone found to be involved in this incident will be held accountable in an appropriate way, including possible legal proceedings, school discipline and/or counseling.

At this time, I would like to also remind you that the Ridgewood High School administration is very open and transparent whenever possible. Anyone who has attended their HSA meetings would agree to their openness to discussing difficult topics and issues that the high school administrators handle. When working with children, even young adolescents to young adults, serious incidents and not-so serious incidents occur. Ridgewood Public School administrators excel at dealing with every such situation with care, and while not everyone may agree on the outcome, I can assure you our administrators work toward resolution and a goal that students will learn from the experience.

To that end, the Ridgewood High School administration will use this recent incident to address “witness” behavior as a school community. It is highly unfortunate that the incident — which happened after school hours on district property — resulted in unnecessary and unacceptable violence. It is also disappointing that other students were present who videoed the incident rather than attempted to intervene in order to prevent physical harm.

I hope you now understand the need for confidentiality in this particular event and are also reassured that action has been taken and will continue as the police complete their investigation. The safety, protection and privacy of our students is a top priority.
