Trenton NJ,  While businesses and employees lose income from a drop in consumer spending and widespread closures, Assemblyman Brian Bergen is calling for a state tax holiday to keep businesses and people financially afloat.“The best way to help residents and businesses is to let them keep the money they have,” said Bergen (R-Morris). “Revenues are strong for the state right now. Anti Business New Jersey Booby Traps Small Businesses with NJ Wage Law

Ridgewood NJ, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a small business association with thousands of members in the state, and the New Jersey Civil Justice Institute filed an amici curiae brief in a case with major implications for well-intended business owners who may face punishment for relying on guidance from government agents in wage and hour disputes. The state Supreme Court is considering whether Cream-O-Land Dairy can assert a “good faith” defense against penalties for allegedly violating New Jersey employment regulations where the company acted in conformance with judgments from state officials who previously concluded—on at least three separate occasions—that the company was in full compliance. The State argues that this good faith defense only applies if the Commissioner of the Department of Labor or the Director of the Wage and Hour Bureau are personally involved; regardless of what their authorized agents may conclude or represent, the Department of Labor says that small business owners may still be liable.

Republican Candidate Rosemary Becchi Blasts Job Killing PRO Act

Republican Candidate Rosemary Becchi

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Morristown NJ,  The economy-killing agenda behind the so-called Protecting the Right to Organize Act cannot be obfuscated by its lofty title. By design, this bill eliminates the business franchise model that employs more than 7 million Americans and contributes nearly $675 Billion to our national economy. Under the guise of expanding worker rights, this legislation destroys entrepreneurship, specifically the ability of Americans to open and own small businesses under a national brand. The bill also expands the equally destructive schemes in New Jersey and elsewhere to end the ability of Americans to operate as independent contractors, from single parents working as on-line college professors to independent truck drivers and self-employed writers or special education instructors. Mikie Sherrill continues to fail the people of the 11th District by following Nancy Pelosi’s agenda and supporting bills that restrict the ability of Americans to achieve the American dream.  It’s time to put the people of New Jersey 11th first.

store closing

One of the toughest decisions a person can make is deciding to shut  their business down, but sometimes it just needs to be done. Whether you’ve decided to shut down the business because it’s not doing so well or because you have an even better idea you’d like to go for, there are a few precautions you need to take.

It can take a long time to shut down a business properly. You’ll need to have an efficient closing plan that will not only offer the most protection possible to your personal assets and credit, but will also help you keep your reputation within the community. You might even be lucky enough to close down a company with retained earnings, depending on the value of the assets and earnings available. If the assets and earnings of the company that need to be distributed amongst the shareholders are less than £25,000, then it is possible for a business to apply for a strike-off application to dissolve the company.

Reader says the Garage ,”was nothing but ‘plum’ given to the developers in town so they have parking for their massive apartment buildings”

high density

“When i go for my daily walks with the dog on recycling days, the majority of the houses of piles of ‘amazon’ boxes at the curb which is a clear indicator of where the residents have been shopping. I haven’t bought anything in the CBD for years except to get my watch battery replaced at town/country or an evening meal/drinks. Retail is dead and dying and the pay-to-park just gives it another kick in the ass. The only need for parking is 3 or 4 hours on Friday/saturday nights unless you’re willing to walk 4 blocks, in which case there is always parking. This was nothing but ‘plum’ given to the developers in town so they have parking for their massive apartment buildings, and parking for the patron’s of their tenants restaurants. There should be ‘impact fees’ on these apartments in addition to real estate taxes since they are the prime beneficiary of the garage. We should have let NJ Transit build a garage at their expenses on the Ken Smith property. too late now. RIP good old Ridgewood. Hello ‘Montclair East’. SAD”
