PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ACTIVIST: WARNS PEDESTRIANS ABOUT CROSSING DANGEROUS CROSSWALK IN RIDGEWOOD

Ridgewood NJ, pedestrian safety activist Frank Geraghty pointed out an ongoing problem on Franklin Avenue and Maple Avenue North is a very dangerous badly marked crosswalk outside 65 Maple Avenue North.  A westbound pedestrian looking left (south) can be fooled sometimes by an empty avenue void of traffic. What the pedestrian does not realize is when he or she gets the all clear and walks west bound on the crosswalk that there is fast moving nearby traffic a few yards away on the left coming from Franklin Avenue and entering Maple Avenue trying to beat a seven second green light which is blocked from pedestrian view by utility pole and street light.

Utility Pole Snaps in Twp. Of Washington During Thunderstorm Activity Monday

Twp. of Washington NJ, Twp of Washington suffered intermittent power failures after a pole cracked during Monday afternoons thunderstorm activity . Washington Township Police warned residents Ridgewood Road will be detoured until further notice at Beech and President for a utility pole that cracked in half. PSE&G is on the scene and no injuries were reported .

Ridgewood Police closed portions of Franklin Turnpike after a Utility Pole Became Unstable

Ridgewood NJ, A utility pole became unstable on Wednesday morning, 09/26, as a result of excavation work associated with the construction of a new 7-11 store at 657 Franklin Turnpike, Ridgewood. Ridgewood Police closed portions of Franklin Turnpike, East Glen Avenue, and an entrance/exit ramp to Route 17 southbound until workers from PSE&G were able to replace/stabilize the pole. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Ridgewood NJ, The adult male driver of a Toyota SUV was uninjured in a Tuesday afternoon, 08/15, crash during which his vehicle left the roadway, mounted a curb & sidewalk, and slammed into a utility pole and traffic control sign at the intersection of Linwood and Walthery Avenues in Ridgewood. Ridgewood Police, Fire, and EMS units responded to the incident. The wrecked Toyota was removed by a flatbed tow truck. A PSE&G crew was dispatched to replace the snapped utility pole. Police officers at the scene did not indicate whether the driver would be issued any summonses in connection with the mishap. The downed traffic control sign is likely to be replaced by the Village of Ridgewood’s Signal Bureau.

Wandering SUV Knocks Out Utility Pole in Ho Ho Kus

Ho Ho Kus NJ, A utility pole and pole mounted transformer on Blauvelt Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus were both KO’d by a wandering SUV on Wednesday afternoon, 05/24. The driver and occupants of the vehicle were shaken up, but uninjured in the crash. Ho-Ho-Kus PD, FD, and EMS personnel responded. The damaged vehicle was removed by a tow truck and PSE&G attended to the downed utility pole and transformer. A portion of Blauvelt Road was closed for an extended period as PSE&G crews worked to return conditions to normal.

Ridgewood NJ, The adult female driver of a Toyota RAV4 SUV was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital following a Thursday afternoon, 6/16, accident in which her vehicle hit a utility pole, crossed over a lane of traffic flowing in the opposite direction, then rolled into a tree before coming to a rest. The incident occurred in front of 678 Grove Street, Ridgewood shortly after 4 PM. The victim reportedly sustained non-life threatening neck and back injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. Ridgewood PD, EMS and FD units responded. A minor crash related fluid spill was attended to by firefighters. The heavily damaged SUV was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

Ridgewood NJ, The driver of a 4-door BMW sedan was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus after losing control of her vehicle and crashing it into a utility pole in front of 239 West Glen Avenue, Ridgewood at 11:40 AM on Saturday, 12/13.  Ridgewood PD, EMS, FD, and Emergency Services units all responded to the scene.  West Glen Avenue remains closed between North Monroe Street and Alpine Terrace due to the downed pole.  No loss of electric power was reported in the area.
