Waldwick NJ, A Paterson-based contractor today admitted conspiring with a commissioner of the now-defunct Paterson Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) to steal funds and pay kickbacks in return for obtaining work from the authority, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Anthony Cacciola, 47, of Waldwick, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right.

Waldwick NJ, according to the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association this morning at 6:15 am the Waldwick Fire Department was dispatched to a reported rollover on Route 17 southbound. Chief Mike Ferrara arrived to find a car on its side against the bridge that spans over Sheridan Avenue. There were many motorists that had stopped to assist and were holding up the car to prevent it from rolling back over. Chief Ferrara ordered the Rescue Jacks off Rescue 642 to be placed into service immediately to secure the vehicle. Meanwhile the crew from Squad 634 assisted in putting the Hurst tools into service to free the victim who was trapped in the vehicle. With multiple tools working the victim was freed from the car very quickly and was treated by an ALS & BLS unit from the Valley Hospital. An excellent job by all who responded.
Waldwick NJ, The Waldwick Police Department is investigating several motor vehicle burglaries that occurred this morning between 2AM and 3AM on the west side of town. As a result three motor vehicles with key fobs left in the vehicles were stolen. All vehicles that were entered were left unlocked. Once again we would like to remind everyone that simply removing your key fob from the car and locking the door will deter criminals from coming to our boro to commit crimes. Waldwick NJ, Waldwick Fire department battled at 3-alarm structure fire at 96 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick on Tuesday afternoon, 10/30. Mutual aid fire, police and EMS services responded from several neighboring communities to assist Waldwick Fire, Waldwick Police, and Waldwick EMS. One (1) firefighter was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital with a non life threatening injury. Traffic on busy Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick was detoured while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Waldwick NJ, A work van owned by a heating/air conditioning contractor slammed into a gas station/auto repair facility located at 11 Crescent Avenue, Waldwick on Monday morning, 10/15. Waldwick Fire Department and Wyckoff Fire Department personnel worked to stabilize the building after the vehicle was removed by a flatbed tow truck. The extent of injuries to the van’s occupants and/or employees of the facility was unknown. Waldwick Police officers detoured northbound traffic on Crescent Avenue away from the scene while emergency crews worked.
Waldwick NJ, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of JOSE A. PALACIOS RIVAS, (DOB: 12/02/1992; Single; and employed as restaurant food runner) of 32 West Prospect Street, Waldwick, New Jersey, on charges of Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Waldwick Police Department under the direction of Chief Mark Messner.
On Thursday, June 21, 2018, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (“BCPOSVU”) received a report that Jose A. PALACIOS RIVAS, who was then twenty-years-old, had sexual intercourse on multiple occasions with a female who was under the age of sixteen. An investigation by the BCPOSVU and the Waldwick Police Department resulted in the arrest of PALACIOS RIVAS on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. PALACIOS RIVAS was charged with one count of Sexual Assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(4), a crime of the 2nd degree and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(a), a crime of the 3rd degree. PALACIOS RIVAS is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 1:30 PM.
Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would like to thank the Waldwick Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
Waldwick NJ, Police from Midland Park, Ridgewood, and Waldwick chased a young black bear through dozens of yards on Thursday morning, 05/24. The bear was finally treed behind home on Evergreen Street in Waldwick where it was last seen by this photographer perched there awaiting the arrival of NJDEP Fish and Wildlife Division personnel.
The bear was resting in a tree near Evergreen and Hemlock in Midland Park. Animal Control arrived at the scene to monitor the situation….
Waldwick NJ, Waldwick Fire Department enlisted mutual aid assistance in fighting a 2-alarm fire in an auto body repair shop located at 145 Hopper Avenue, Waldwick on Tuesday afternoon, 04/04. No injuries were reported.
Waldwick NJ, A Thursday afternoon, 10/26 Waldwick fire that reportedly originated in an outdoor barbecue resulted in one (1) person sustaining minor burns and required the response of Waldwick Fire Department personnel to extinguish. Minor fire related damage was reported to the exterior of a single family home located on Charles Terrace, Waldwick resultant from the fire. Waldwick EMS transported the burn victim to The Valley Hospital for treatment. Waldwick Police also responded.
Wyckoff NJ, Wyckoff and Waldwick Police report that a Waldwick Police Officer interrupted a suspect committing a burglary to an unlocked vehicle in their Borough.
Wyckoff Police have also experienced this in the past and would like to remind our residents to please remove all valuable items and especially key fobs from your vehicles and to lock your car doors at all times. Locking your vehicles and removing the key fobs is a simple way to deter criminals. It only takes a second to lock the doors. We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods and reporting anything unusual or suspicious to the police, “Hear It! See It! Waldwick needs to take this problem much more seriously, for as great as this original infiltration was, it is highly likely that it will get much worse and infinitely more dangerous as the colder months force them to take even more residence in homes. Rats carry all kinds of disease and are notoriously rabid. Their urine and feces leave disease-borne microbes everywhere, including in air ducts, children play areas and other areas where it becomes an incessant threat to human health, young and old alike! Rats are very adaptable and are very opportunistic, not to mention, their prolifate reproductive rate. A female can breed at 5 weeks-old, gestation is only 21 days, liters can be as high as14, or more simply put, 2 rats can become as much as 15,000 in less than a year.
These rats being dislocated from there past community now probably means the threat they represent has grown 100-fold, as did the chance of ever reducing the threat to what was once manageable to the neighbor hoods in Waldwick. I wish these citizens my hopes and prayers in dealing with a potentially tragic problem for their beautiful community.
Waldwick NJ, Wanamaker Avenue, a middle-class neighborhood that according to residents has recently become infested with rats. After finding them all over their property some Waldwick residents say rats are taking over their neighborhood.
According to neighbors the first signs of the rats was in the spring, since then, the issue has begun to tailspin, with more and more neighbors reporting sightings of the animals, both dead and alive. Some have even set traps.
Residents claim the sudden invasion started with nearby construction of Waldwick Station a Russo Development and Terminal Construction Corporation project that began building an 111-unit apartment complex on Zazzetti Street, along the NJ Transit rail, last summer .
Waldwick NJ, The adult male driver of a 4-door Buick sedan required ambulance transportation to a local hospital following a crash in which her vehicle struck a utility pole near the intersection of Crescent and Wyckoff Avenues in Waldwick on Wednesday morning, 04/05. Waldwick PD, FD, and EMS responded to the incident.
Waldwick NJ, A Waldwick Department of Public Works employee was injured when a piece of heavy equipment rolled over on its side while performing snow removal work at the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Maple Court in Waldwick on Thursday afternoon, 03/16.
The victim’s injuries were reported to be non life threatening. An ambulance from Ho-Ho-Kus transported the victim to The Valley Hospital. The piece of heavy equipment was righted by a heavy duty wrecker. The cause of the accident is under investigation by Waldwick PD.
Waldwick NJ, Waldwick PD, FD, and building department personnel responded to 11 Ridge Street, Waldwick on Saturday afternoon, 01/21, in response to an incident in which a 4-door Saab left the roadway, went down an embankment, and crashed into a single family home. No one in the vehicle, nor any occupant of the home, was injured in the mishap. The vehicle was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Damage to the structure was moderate; the occupants are believed to still be occupying the premises post crash.
