Director – Northwest Bergen County – Regional Emergency Dispatch Center
The Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch in Ridgewood, NJ, is searching for a Dispatch Center Director. Manage operations and administration of the communications center serving Ridgewood and Glen Rock, as well as eleven other public safety jurisdictions.
Responsible for employee hiring, training, evaluation and disciplinary issues. Oversees all administrative and operational features of the Dispatch Center, including maintenance of equipment and records; develops and oversees center’s annual budget.
Minimum of a B.S. in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other related field. 2 years prior experience in public safety dispatching, valid CPR cert., Emergency Medical Dispatcher Cert. (current or prior, and willing to renew within six months), and Basic Telecommunicator Cert. required.
Required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:
o Three years supervisory experience in a multi-jurisdictional Emergency Communication Center serving a population of 100,000 or more.
o Experience in supervision of staff of twenty or more personnel.
o Knowledge of principles of employee development.
o Experience in development, implementation, and oversight of training regimens o Ability to be a liaison with multiple departments across police, fire, and EMS
o Experience in development of policy and project management.
o Experience in command or leadership
o Knowledge of various administrative functions such as: scheduling, human
resources, time-keeping, and payroll
o Working knowledge of communications equipment, both radio and 911 o Ability to think critically using logic and reasoning to identify problems,
conclusions, innovative approaches, and solutions. o Effective oral and written communications skills.

Salary range begins at $90,000, commensurate with education and experience. No costs to interview and no relocation costs will be paid to candidates for the position. Must be NJ resident within one year of appointment.
