Memorial Day Apartment Fire in Hackensack Quickly Subdued

Hackensack NJ, on Monday May 31st @ 22:58 hours Members of the City of Hackensack Fire Department first platoon operated all hands at 240 Prospect street for a fire and apartment 209. Fire was quickly knockdown by the first arriving fire companies. Searches throughout the building were negative. No injuries reported at the scene. Englewood and Teaneck Fire departments assisted on scene along with Hackensack UMC, NLS and ALS.

Ridgewood NJ, the RHS Curricular Band Program had a really special trip into NYC this past Wednesday May 25th . All 3 curricular bands performed on the deck of the USS Intrepid from 10:30-11:30 , which also happened to be day 1 of fleet week in NYC !

Toms River NJ, on May 22, the Blue Knights Little League Baseball team presented Josie Manfre-Morey, niece of Trooper Werner Foerster, with a signed baseball from the team prior to their game against the North Wall Little League in Wall, N.J. The Blue Knights are from Toms River and each player honors the State Police by wearing on their uniform, the badge number of a trooper killed in the line of duty.

Closter NJ , Closter Police Department reported a Bear sighting on Friday May 27th . Please be advised that a black bear was spotted on Dana Place this morning. NJ Fish and Wildlife was notified. They advised us that residents should make sure garbage is secured, bird seed is brought in, to keep an eye on pets and keep garages shut. New Census Numbers Indicate Texas, Tenn., And Florida were Short Changed on Additional Congressional Seats

Washington DC,  US Census Bureau now admits the the 2020 Census was based on annual Census estimates from 2011 to 2020 .The new decennial Census count and subsequent reapportionment misrepresented three “red states” with big population gains: Florida, Tennessee, and Texas while the population count appeared to come in way too high in blue states like Rhode Island and New York.

Village of Ridgewood Offices Closed May 30th, 2022 for Memorial Day

Ridgewood NJ, all Village offices and departments will be closed on Monday, May 30th, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. There will be no garbage or recycling pick up on this day and the Recycling Center will also be closed.  All Village offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 31st at 8:30 a.m.  As always, the Police Department, on the Second Floor of Village Hall, will be open on this holiday.

Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance . “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed.

Academy of the Holy Angels Golfers Earn Rare Triple Crown, Finish Second in State

Demarest NJ,  the varsity golfers from the Academy of the Holy Angels just completed a lights-out, first-ever undefeated season (14-0 in overall league play) that included an elusive triple crown. The Angels are now league champions, Big North champions, and AHA’s first Bergen County AND State Sectional champions. On May 16, the Angels finished second in the state, and Angelina Kim of Tenafly finished third in the state as an individual. The team includes Kim, ’25; Sharanya Agarwal of West New York, ’25; Sidney Chung of Cresskill, ’24; Inha Jun of Edgewater, ’25; and Amelia Shen of Demarest, ‘23.
