We ALL know that there is ample parking. Even Sonenfeld says so. The problem is that PROMISES WERE MADE to certain key people that a garage would be built near their properties and businesses in the business district. What Aronsohn, Saraceno, Pucciarelli, Vaggianos, Sonenfeld, Hauck and company failed to consider is that the town if full of very smart people. And the people rose up and ran a petition drive and stopped the insanity. Bye Bye Garage.
God, what a hideous, monstrous mistake that would have been. Thand you to the thousands of residents who revolted.
It looked like a prison and would have made prisoners of that small cafe and apartment neighborhood for the next fifty years.Poluting monolith.
“…..the town if full of very smart people”. Maybe, but it took a small core of people willing to act, willing to face public criticism, willing to put in many hours and willing to spend their own money. These are the people who stood athwart the distorted future of Ridgewood yelling “Stop” (with apologies to the late WF Buckley).
Thank God people spoke. I want to Thank all of those who took the lead on this. Those who so forcefully pushed this monster are the worst enemies of our village. I have been driving around all weekend day or night and have found PLENTY of parking at every corner and not farther than 5 mins away to walk to ant restaurant or store. Our village is lovely the way it is, it just needs improvements but nothing major. I hope the new council identifies the obvious and doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel with monstrous “investments”.
The council members never said that they did not support a garage. There will be meetings with residents and businesses to come up with a self supporting garage that fits our needs.
Something will be designed and approved. You are kidding yourself if you think that we are not building.
The building in the right corner looks like it is going to collapse onto the road. Get those pedestrians off the sidewalk.
Was Bad to the Bone..
No garage, please. Whole thing was a boondoggle that far too many people accepted because it had been presented with lies, omissions, and deception.
3.14 like a bad penny..the rot continues…new ideas forbidden ..VC needs to help these bad landers move on.That sight is not appropriate..we had a referendum on that issue and it’s done..resurface and clean up that surface lot site. That is the will of the majority ,spoken in a legal vote.
The will of the majority originally was to build “A” garage or parking deck. The three Amigos turned that into a vote for that monster. The second vote was not to eliminate a reasonably sized deck but to prevent the bad guys from getting the money while it was early enough for them to still use it while they were in office. It was Aronson who inserted the amount of money (which just so happened to be the exact amount he needed for his white elephant) and set the date of the election for a time when he could still use it. That is why the second election had all those negative votes. Some people were voting against any garage but most of us were voting to keep it small, maybe even 2 small, and let the new Council handle it.
