The Village noise ordinance as updated last March permits hired workers (does not include the home owner) to make noise of any kind, whether from hammers or drills or machines or trucks or blowers, ONLY at the following times:
8-6 Mon.-Fri. IF NOT A FEDERAL HOLIDAY
9-1 Sat. IF NOT A FEDERAL HOLIDAY (note the 1 PM end time)
NO NOISE is permitted on Sundays or holidays.
***Anyone who hears construction noise not being made by the home owner at any time it is forbidden can and should call the police at 201-652-3900 and ask them to tell the workers to go home.***
The noise ordinance will apply on these 2023 federal holidays:
Mon., Jan. 2 (New Year’s Day celebrated)
Mon., Jan. 16 (Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.)
Mon., Feb. 20 (Washington’s Birthday)
Mon., May 29 (Memorial Day)
Mon., June 19 (Juneteenth)
Tues., July 4 (Independence Day)
Mon., Sept. 4 (Labor Day)
Mon., Oct. 9 (Columbus Day)
Sat., Nov. 11 (Veterans Day)
Thurs., Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Day)
Mon., Dec. 25 (Christmas Day)
Such a BS ordinance completely ignored by landscapers. 7:15 is their start time, they ignore federal holidays and treat Saturdays as a weekday. Hold them accountable with a significant fine and they will follow the rules.
All an ordinance like this does is create fewer worker-hours available to do the same jobs in our town. Whoever advocated for an ordinance like this should realize it will raise prices for citizens.
Well the town goes out at 5am too sweep roads .
Since the Ridgewood Fire Dept is taking over may we should call them with any noise complaints.
The town does not have to follow its own rules. But those trucks and workers are a drop in the bucket compared to the hired workers day after day, season after season.
Clearance of ice and snow is exempted from the rule for safety reasons.
Fines are levied upon the home owner–not the worker.
CALL THE POLICE and make them all stop flouting the rules. This is not merely an “understood” social issue but an ordinance on the books.
You do not have to give your name. Dial *67 before the police number and if asked, say that you prefer to remain anonymous. This is your right. No one will know who called.
Ah the Village Whistler Blower/Pot Stirrer strikes anonymously again!
Too bad we all know who you are 😘
How’s about if you have a problem with your neighbor you go and talk to them? You literally are calling the police on your own landscapers. “Remain anonymous and call the police”. That’s what you want your police department doing. Dealing with anonymous complaints of landscapers using leaf blowers? What a coward. If you have a problem with someone blowing leaves at least be adult enough to attach your name to it. Or how’s about you go to village hall and do charges yourself, if you have such a problem with it.
Workers can learn the noise prohibitions in all surrounding towns and how to work within them. Mine have.
It will not raise prices.
A little peace, please.
Its not the workers, its the owners who send their crews out. Fine them all.
Whistle blow hard, I like that one it’s a good one. Did you think of that by yourself, or with your little trolls that you hang out in the bar with. The fire department has all the power in the village. They are the political elephant like it or not. They’re not going anywhere. They’re just going to expand, and if you think the MS is the end I think again. More to come. Good for them they do a great job.
My neighbor is going to blow his leaves tomorrow morning at 8 AM, he never Cletus leaves all the season. I guess he’s going to take it vantage of the weather reset. Oh well
Unfortunately, there are no rules for home owners doing their own work. Man and his castle, etc.
