NJ Transit Explores “equitable transit oriented development” along Proposed 9 mile Extension of Hudson-Bergen Light Rail

Englewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT has been awarded a $592,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to study equitable transit oriented development (TOD) along the proposed nine-mile extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) into Bergen County.  The comprehensive plan will build on efforts to establish neighborhoods and employment centers along the corridor and provide a framework for coordinated actions, creating a blueprint for success for all stakeholders.  The extension of the HBLR into Bergen County, known as the Northern Branch, will further NJ TRANSIT’s 10-Year Strategic Plan goals of powering a stronger and fairer economy and promoting a more sustainable future.

UPDATE: Village of Ridgewood Time Limit for the Removal of Political Signs ,Point of Contention

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Village Council have decided not to tweak  the municipal law regulating election signs .The local law imposes time limits, ” all campaign signs must be removed no later than 20 days after the General Election.” The time limit for the removal of political signs is the point of contention.

Paramus NJ, according to Paramus Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti ,on Thursday New York teenagers fleeing police in a stolen car hit two vehicles stopped in traffic while exiting onto New Jersey Route 4 in Paramus . The two youths apprehended  in a residential area .

George Neville Former Principal of the George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood Dead at 78

Ridgewood NJ, George Neville, 78, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in Princeton. He was born in Hartford, CT, grew up in Winchester, MA, and settled in Ridgewood, NJ. He graduated from Harvard University in 1966, attended Boston College Law School, and Tuft’s Graduate School in Massachusetts, where he met his wife of 49 years, Frances Jani. He enjoyed history, especially the American Civil War. He loved sports and was a three-sport athlete in college, participating in baseball, football, and basketball.  He earned All-American honors in baseball: a wonderful culmination to a youth spent on the baseball diamond where he and his friends honed their skills and eventually played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1955 & ‘56.  He spent the bulk of his career in education as Principal of the George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood, NJ.  There will always be a special place in his heart for his GW Family.  George loved people most of all and had a unique ability to assemble an exceptional learning environment.

Ridgewood NJ, Investigations into growing outbreaks of monkeypox virus continue in at least 15 countries where the disease usually is not endemic. As of publication, health authorities have identified 160 confirmed cases and at least 80 suspected cases in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the US, and UK.* No cases have yet to be confirmed in South America, although Argentina has reported a suspected case. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) today issued a risk assessment warning that if the current outbreaks in Europe are not brought under control quickly, there is a risk that monkeypox could become endemic if the virus spreads into an animal population.
