Ridgewood NJ, this is a first in a new series of articles for the Ridgewood blog promoting our local merchants and restaurants.
It seems the Village Tea Shop out did themselves taking care of a resident.
“A HUGE thank you to my friend May from the Village Tea Shop in Ridgewood. She just rang my doorbell and completely surprised me with a hot cup of wellness tea with ginger honey because she heard from my friend Geary that I am down and out with a crummy virus. I am not at the tea shop (as the posting indicates) but I am sipping the delicious tea in my easy chair and envisioning myself there right now. Maybe in a few days . . . Thank you May! And for my Facebook friends that are local, you need to get to the tea shop and try their amazing products. Good for the body and soul!”
The Village Tea Shop is a small cozy shop serving a large selection of organic and fair trade teas from around the world. Crafted tea drinks, smoothies, bubble tea, and yes coffee.

I wish people would take photos of parking spaces all over town on different days of the week, ordinary and holiday, and at different times to show in aggregate that parking IS AVAILABLE. A large number of photos documented at various times and days of the week would tell the story. Walking a couple of blocks is good for your health! And unless you’re going to a Hudson St. or S. Broad Street venue, you’ll walk a couple of blocks (or much more) from the garage anyway. Please VOTE NO on June 21 and get an absentee ballot if you can’t.

Ridgewood NJ, Village Council Candidate Bernie Walsh comments on Ridgewood News reporting of the elections, “So my experience with the Ridgewood News this week. And the ensuing poorly written article. The reporter was demanding my age – like that matters in an election. Told me he had no opinion of what happens in Ridgewood because he lives in Wayne – even though he works and reports here every day. Talked to me for over a half hour and put three totally out of context quotes in the article. I was the one who kept telling everyone they were wrong that the Ridgewood News could be unbiased. In my 51 years (yes I finally told him my age) I’ve never seen such horrible journalism. Oh and by the way, he had no idea about many of the items I referred to in our conversation. Hopefully, he’ll know more before he writes any more articles.”

Ridgewood Nj, Ridgewood News squashes story garage petition, certification and special election, days before pivotal Village Council election.
From the Facebook page It Takes a Village , “Before you read the Ridgewood News tmrw, please know this-We, Lorraine and I, were interviewed by a smart, new reporter recently employed by the Ridgewood News who was excited to report our side of the story on the garage petition, certification and special election. We had an hour long conversation and she even was speaking to our attorney to share her response. The reporter called me today to apologize and tell me they will not be printing the article due to “space constraints”. Maybe next week she said. I told her we know it was not her decision, and encouraged her to find a new job at a real newspaper. I have cancelled my subscription.” , Gail McLaughlin McCarthyIt is also being reported that Janice Willet’s campaign manager is a long time employee of the North Bergen Media Group (who owns the Ridgewood News), Pam Wyne. Big surprise.!The inequity of the media coverage in our area is disgraceful. I hope everyone cancels their subscriptions to all of their publications immediately and sends them the message loud and clear that we do not tolerate bias in our journalism, period. Laurie Bender
If you do a quick search on line there are many instances of this-bias newspapers are part of our culture and are protected-they can turn ads away all they want if they don’t adhere to the publishers bias-and of course editorial content is under their discretion. The real problem is that ALL our local news outlets are owned by the same people-this is an issue worth examining. Ellen D’Arcy Simpson
We have already reported that the Ridgewood News decided not to print any letters to the editor in support of candidates on the eve of the election yet felt in necessary to post pro Village manager commentary and advertising.
Ridgewood Nj, the Ridgewood blog has learned that The Ridgewood News will NOT print any endorsement letters to the editor on the Friday before the election (May 6th). Apparently, the editor wants to be able to put a correction in on May 6th, if any information in endorsement letters are challenged.
So there are only 2 weeks left for endorsement letters (April 22 & April 29). I have no idea if they will be fair in their # of letters per candidate, but based on my experience with this new editor, I doubt there will be anything fair about it. I suggest getting letters in this weekend for next weeks paper.
As for the Ridgewood blog , we will be excepting letters of endorsement all the way till the May 10. Please proofread and spell check.
They will be posted unedited . Email PJ Blogger at [email protected] .

The Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan.

THE RECORD
The Port Authority will push ahead with a design competition for a new Midtown Manhattan bus terminal even as agency commissioners remain divided about where and how big it should be — and whether they should build a second terminal in New Jersey that would transfer bus commuters to trains for the trip to New York City.
Pat Foye, the Port Authority’s executive director, announced the launch of the competition at an agency board meeting on Thursday, saying that designers will be expected to submit concepts that are “scalable and modular and made to fit whatever location and size the agency decides.”
a disco themed port authority ,with disco balls and blinking floors
The agency is being deliberately vague because of a split among board members about how best to replace the 66-year-old terminal at 42nd Street. That station, which serves about 30,000 Bergen County commuters every weekday, is operating over capacity and is in dire need of repair. Engineers say it will need to be knocked down in about 20 years because of structural problems.

Founders Day : the History of the Ridgewood blog
the History of the Ridgewood blog
Monday, October 26, 2009
The Ridgewood blog ( https://theridgewoodblog.blogspot.com/ ) was founded in March of 2006 by James J Foytlin aka PJ Blogger .[1] Mr.
Foytlin was born and raised in Ridgewood ,New Jersey and is a graduate of Ridgewood High School .[2] [3]
After many years living in New York City[4] Mr Foytlin returned to Ridgewood after a divorce and the tragic events of 9/11 . Once he
settled in he noticed a lack of sufficient news coverage of local events . One day a friend from Brazil[5] showed him her home town on
the internet and to Mr. Foytlin’s great surprise when he tried to reciprocate he was utterly dismayed at the absolute lack of coverage
of his home town. After all Ridgewood is only 18 miles from midtown Manhattan[6] the media capital of world and there was not a single
picture of Ridgewood to be found . How could this be? Ridgewood is a picturesque upper middle class village of around 25,000 located in
Bergen county in northern New Jersey[7] . Founded by Dutch settlers before it became an English colony[8] . The town or village as its
called is steeped in rich history and tradition .Known for a large amount of Victorian era housing , a quality school system and a family
friendly atmosphere.
Though busy getting reacquainted with his home town the fact that the Village of Ridgewood was so under represented on the internet
continued to disturb Mr. Foytlin. Mr. Foytlin had been writing news letters for his job in financial services since the mid 1990’s . The
popular flip, off beat investment strategy news letters had become email blasts with the advent of readily accessible internet.[9] By
2004 the email blasts were converted into blog format for the One Small Voice blog ( https://onesmallvoice.blogspot.com/ ). [10]
Around that time the Village of Ridgewood had finally completed it’s much anticipated and long delayed renovation of the Village hall which
has been flooded out due to Hurricane Floyd.[11] The renovation was marred by huge cost over runs and lengthy delays. In 2005 it opened
with great fan fare , was once again flooded with the very first rain . Mr. Foytlin was more shocked by the abject lack of responsibilitytaken by elected officials than the fact that the $9 million dollar renovation had to some extent been a failure . That was the breaking
point and Mr. Foytlin had had enough so he decided to give , citizen journalism a go and created the Ridgewood blog in March of 2006. [12]
The birth of PJ Blogger .By this time Blogging its seems had become quite the rage and mainstream news anchors such as Dan Rather had
questioned the validity of information from non professionals sitting around in their Pajama’s blogging.[13] Mr. Foytlin not a fan of Dan
Rather or any of the mainstream media decided to blog under the name PJ Blogger as a play on words and to plant himself firmly in the camp
of the new digital media.
Innovations by the Ridgewood blog to citizen journalism.
“The Fly” is a column on the Ridgewood blog the originates from the expression ,”I’d like to be a fly on the wall “ . The idea is that
every citizen has both a unique perspective and experience and these two factors can be used to gather news and opinions about local
issues. Originally only of handful of people in town participated but with time the Ridgewood blog can now count on 20–40 semi regular
contributors. These post are both anonymous and signed and are largely opinion as well a breaking news.[14]
The Ridgewood blog brings a free market lassie fare point of view to local issues . Mr. Foytlin aka PJ Blogger has stated that for local
issues there are only two kinds of people ;the ones who say spend what every you want because I will not be around to pay the bill and the
second group which are more focused on the ,”be careful this is my money your spending” . The Ridgewood blog is dedicated to the
interplay of there two groups.[15]

THE RECORD
Bingeing can be bad for your heart, may be a sign of depression, and could leave you with blurred memories of the whole experience. That’s what some experts have been saying recently, and they’re not talking about food or drink — they’re talking about the gluttonous consumption of a television series.
Has a binge-watching backlash begun?
“MAD MEN”
Lately a few big-name television producers, including Jenji Kohan — whose heavily-binged-on Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” unveils its entire 13-episode third season on Friday — have expressed misgivings about the approach that allows for this viewing trend: the launching of all the episodes of a series’ season at once rather than in the traditional “linear” fashion, week by week.
“I miss having people on the same page. I do miss being able to go online and have the conversation the day after,” Kohan said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner expressed a similar view during a teleconference before his series’ finale, saying that if he ever created a series for Netflix, he would ask that the streaming service roll out episodes over time “so at least there was just some shared experience.”
According to Oxford Dictionaries, the term “binge-watching” — watching multiple episodes of a TV series in a short span of time — broke into the mainstream about two years ago. (“Binge-watch” was a contender for Oxford’s Word of the Year in 2013, but lost to “selfie.”)
Dear Readers after suffering a major “HACK” attack last week the Ridgewood Blog is under going a very major up grade to its servers .
After finishing our first phase of blog redesign we are also continuing a long term project for better indexing the 80,000 plus older posts making them easier to search . This includes a more usable streamlined set of categories as well as a simpler tagging system .
The second major project we are currently working on is fixing the 3000 or so broken , non working or inaccurate links . When finished this will give blog users faster access to blog posts and a more robust feel for surfers.
thanks for your patients , the blog should return to service sometime today ,

Downtown Tree Well Report 9.22.14 – Volunteers Welcome
9/22/14 Update; Oak, Chestnut and Broad still need to be weeded and mulched, but I need to work on labeling and identifying the trees before they lose their leaves. Tomorrow I am going to work on labeling wells and identifying trees. I am going to start on Maple and work my way up Ridgewood and down. I will initially label the wells in a inconspicuous place with a permanent marker. Once I have all trees counted I will investigate a more obvious and tasteful labeling method. I will have sheets to fill out for each tree and my plan is to take a picture of each tree that will help identify the species and condition. I would appreciate any and all help. This should be cleaner (and quicker) than weeding and mulching.
