Is the Village of Ridgewood For Sale: Village Council Say No

Ridgewood_-Village_Hall_theridgewoodblog

Ridgewood NJ, at the Wednesday Village Council meeting, Councilwoman Reynolds asked attorney Matthew Rogers whether a cap could be put on spending for each candidate for local election campaigns. Looks like that’s not possible. She also asked whether campaign donations could be limited to Ridgewood origin. Also a no go. This came during discussion about how hard it is to get people to run for office.

Ridgewood NJ, its amazing we have gone this far in the Village Council Election and no one has mentioned the infamous ,“Hans Lehmann letter ”. For those of you who are new to the Village , the “Hans Lehmann letter ” was an anti Catholic diatribe sent out in support by the Alexandra Harwin for Council campaign in 2018 . The anti Catholic tirade failed, Harwin  spent $40,135  and lost.

Reader says To all of you who think we should move on….you are dead wrong

Alexandra Harwin

To all of you who think we should move on….you are dead wrong. We learn from the past. Harwin was heavily funded by her own grand fortune and the money of many out-of-towners. And even if Hauck, Pucciarelli, and Aronsohn’s names are not on the donor list, they were outspoken advocates for her. She was nasty, beyond nasty, racist, divisive. She sanctioned that horrific mailing from Hans Lehmann. She was a disaster. We must never forget that she tried so hard and spent so much. Thrilled that she lost, but still, she did get a bunch of votes.

Harwin and Willett Camp Calls Mayor a NAZI Sympathizer for Posing with the Easter Bunny and Honoring and Helping Veterans

IMG 71531

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, in their latest campaign pitch , the Willett and Harwin camp have accused Village of Ridgewood Mayor Susan Knudsen and deputy Mayor Mike Sedon of being NAZI sympathizers for among other things posing with the Easter Bunny , planting flags with American Legion Post 53 at Valleau Cemetery for forgotten veterans ,and thanking all those who helped with the Memorial Day Service and Remembers the Fallen military hero’s, on this blog.

While the Willett and Harwin campaign have already been outed for being anti Catholic ,undermining the police and fire department you can now add hating the Easter Bunny and denigrating the US Armed Services and its veterans to the list.

In the mailing the Ridgewood blog was called a “right wing blog “, who dared to state the obvious that using children to make cheap political points is a bit reminiscent of “Hitler Youth” , sorry folks it is what it is.

Still no word from Harwin and Willett denouncing the bigoted Hans Lehmann letter or explaining their position on the anti minority ,white only LGBT flag that they attempted to pressure the council into hosting over Village Hall?

The entire mailing fails to understand how the Ridgewood blog functions and  how news is disseminated on this site .

Red Alert, Ridgewood!

stf red alert ransomware redalert virus main image1

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’m writing out of deep concern regarding this upcoming Village Council election on May 8th and hope that you can share this note with other residents so that they understand what is really happening here.

The level of lies, slander and libelous talk coming from the campaign against Mayor Knudsen and Councilman Sedon has reached a dangerous pitch and we now find ourselves on the precipice of landing right back in the same bad state of government that Ridgewood had fallen into two years ago.

Make no mistake. The former mayor and those behind him are behind these two opposing candidates; and should either one be elected, we are going to be facing yet another four years of fighting tooth and nail to protect our village against further inappropriate high-density developments and other massive projects that will reshape Ridgewood into a place that we will no longer recognize.

Mayor Knudsen and Councilman Sedon have worked tirelessly to fix the damage incurred by the previous village council majority and former village manager. They repealed Ordinance 3066, which had previously permitted inappropriate development, including the Valley Expansion, to gain traction. Mayor Knudsen mitigated the level of high-density that had been approved by her predecessor and both Mayor Knudsen and Councilman Sedon are working hard to create a new Master Plan that will pave the way for more reasonable development while maintaining the feel of the Ridgewood that we all know and love.

So, I am asking for your help in sharing this note. Send it to everyone in town you know. It is imperative that we make sure everyone in Ridgewood understands what is really afoot and act accordingly.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Dana

It’s Really Time for Harwin to Resign from the Council Election

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, it seems Ridgewood non Partisan Politics have hit a new all time low this might be the lowest we’ve seen in Ridgewood yet. Ridgewood Votes 2018 sent out what could be considered the most offensive bigoted, disgusting campaign literature we have ever witnessed.

In what can now be only considered pure smear campaign , filled with lies. The letter goes on maligning not only a the mayors character but attacks Catholics from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and our Catholic school and Jamboree as well.

The Harwin campaign with nothing to run on except it lame attempt to slander Mayor Susan Knudsen . This conduct is SO far beyond the pale of good citizenship it bodes like the ruination of our community spirit.

None of the accusations are true. All have already been proven totally 100% false ,for one example, the flyer says that Susan accepted a $25000 prize from an organization with a vested interest in the parking garage. Clearly they were referring to OLMC, yet the raffle was not held by OLMC, but by another church in Glen Rock. Further, at a recent candidate coffee, a Ridgewood resident (who didn’t seem to know Mayor Knudsen) stated that he was the organizer of the raffle and there was no way that it could have been “fixed”.

The letter despicable letter was written by Hans-Jurgen Lehmann, Chairman of the Board of Adjustment and husband of Jan Phillps .

The question arises does Alexandra Harwin have a platform she’s running on or is it solely based on pointing fingers and slander? On the Ridgewood blog they have made attacks claiming ,anti Semitism, sexism, intolerance and nepotism . They have attacked both the Ridgewood Police Department and the Ridgewood Fire department . They have also used children to push they “agenda” at Ridgewood High School.

It’s pathetic and eerily smells like Paul Aronsohn has his hands in this. There is an undeniable connection between Paul Aronsohn, Jan Phillps, Jeff Voigt, Rurik Halaby , Gwenn Hauck ,Al Pucciarelli, Don Delzio, Hans-Jurgen Lehmann and Alexandra Harwin .

Hawin should disavow this mailer and resign from the council election immediately and Hans-Jurgen Lehmann should be terminated as Chairman of the Board of Adjustment .

Former Village Manager Supports Willett and Harwin for Village Council

Roberta

Roberta harassing the petitioners
March 28,2018
the staff of the Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, former village manager Roberta Sonnefeld is out endorsing Janice Willett and Alexandra Harwin for Village Council . Sonnefeld left in a cloud and being accused of attempting to carry forward the previous failed agenda of the prior administration .
Sonnefeld tenure was most notable for the amount of financial catastrophes brought to the village . The so called “breath of fresh air” manager signed off on the HealthBarn giveaway lease to a personal friend , she also signed off on huge parking fees charged by Park Mobil , she appeared to threaten and interfere with a legal petition process . Sonnefeld also claimed to have a $100,000 check from the RBSA to develop a 90 foot baseball field at Schedler ,which never materialized . Sonnefeld signed of on the ridiculous ADA ramp in Graydon which ran over budget and is too slippery to use and well as the traffic easing under the railroad trestle which effectively cut off the Westside of town from the Central Business district.

Not to mention that Paul Arohnson, the former mayor, and Roberta Sonenfeld, the former village manager, were found guilty of ethics violations ,when they used village funds to produce a video that promoted the building of a parking deck, which was the subject of a town-wide referendum in 2016.

https://theridgewoodblog.net/village-manager-roberta-sonenfeld-should-resign-immediately-for-interfering-with-petition-process/

https://theridgewoodblog.net/is-village-manager-roberta-sonnefeld-still-following-the-failed-agenda-of-the-previous-council/

https://theridgewoodblog.net/questions-arise-over-who-hired-the-video-company-for-aronsohns-ethically-challenged-promo-video/

Anne LaGrange Loving said on Facebook ,” Ms. Sonenfeld, as Village Manager, ignored Resolution 15-52 regarding Park Mobile which clearly stated that there would be NO ADDITIONAL FEES, and yet there was something like $140,000 in additional fees. And then candidate Willett went to the microphone at a council meeting a couple of months ago and hotly defended the fact that these additional fees were acceptable. The resolution clearly states that this is not the case. We do not need “financial integrity” such as Ms. Sonenfeld espouses and Ms. Willett defends.”

Saurabh Dani said on the Facebook page , It Takes a Ridgewood Village. she ” authorizing construction documents for garage BEFORE it was approved, and thus wasting 600,000 $ of our money.”

Anne LaGrange Loving also said on the same Facebook page , “a full-time position WITH BENEFITS for a new employee to manage part of the Village Manager’s responsibilities…..and then hiring a friend into that position. And Ms. Sonenfeld had the audacity to write about nepotism in a recent letter, when she hired her friend to do the job that she (Sonenfeld) was being paid to do. Remember when Deputy Mayor Sedon asked whether Sonenfeld’s salary would be reduced proportionally in order to compensate for the fact that someone else was going to be performing the human resources aspect of the Village Manager’s job?”

Reader says The recent election has shown that two thirds of the electorate favor more moderate development projects

3 amigos in action Ridgewood NJ

Ridgewood is where it is because our Council has been governing for the benefit of the few and not for the benefit of the many. The tax payers have been fed a steady diet of “take it or leave it”, oversized initiatives with no option to compromise. Why? Because the Council majority has been answering to Valley and the developer special interest groups. If Valley Hospital could have moved off of its completely unreasonable expansion plan 10 years ago, they’d be finished with their construction by now and we’d have a more modern hospital. Whose fault is that? Same goes for the CBD – not a single person who thinks 35 units per acre is too dense has ever advocated for vacant car dealerships. That is the rhetoric of the now-vanquished Ron Simoncini and his “Truth About Ridgewood.” The recent election has shown that two thirds of the electorate favor more moderate development projects. It’s time to undo what the last Council has put in place and start over. Smaller hospital, smaller garage, smaller apartments.

The Preserve Graydon Coalition puts together the Ridgewood Council Election Landslide Numbers

village Council Elections

Landslide by the Numbers

by Marcia Ringel and Alan Seiden

YOU, THE PEOPLE, DID IT.

You came out in record numbers. With your votes you said, loudly and clearly: “No more grandstanding. No more bullying. No more manipulation. No more hypocrisy. No more special interests, outside influence, self-promotion. We are taking our village back.”

You said: “We want to see planning—not plotting. We want to see dreaming—not scheming.”

You said: “No more ‘deals.’ No more promises or pledges except to the community at large.”

You said: “No more ‘council majority’ for every vote. No more insults and contempt from the dais to fellow residents and to the populace who elected them. No more ignoring the impassioned pleas of hundreds of calm, well-spoken residents on issues of great importance to us.”

GOODBYE to all that.

Hello to three independent-thinking council members who will join our two continuing independent-thinking council members to cooperate and collaborate—not conspire and collude.

Hello to true, not lip-service, transparency and sunshine, with discussions held in public and decisions made afterward, not before—as Councilman Mike Sedon assured a cheering crowd at Village Hall last night after the results had been announced.

Welcome back, democracy.

Congratulations and thank you to the large number of people who worked to get out the vote and to everyone who voted. The grassroots groups finally attained unity and showed what our village is made of. We could not be denied.

This is a historic win for Ridgewood. We can now look to the future with hope.

“Unofficial” results (must be vetted by the county to become “official”), from highest to lowest number of votes received:

Ramon M. Hache: 3867 (67.87%)
Jeffrey Voigt: 3839 (67.37%)
Bernadette Coghlan-Walsh: 3611 (63.37%)

Janice M. Willett: 1803 (31.64%)
Evan Weitz: 1736 (30.47%)
Richard S. Brooks 1656 (29.06%)

Number of registered voters: 16,740
Number of votes cast: 5,698
Percentage of registered voters voting: 34.04%

In all 19 districts, the winning candidates had the most votes.

A district-by-district breakdown of election results, showing votes cast for each candidate, percentages, and totals, is available in a table posted on the village website:

https://www.ridgewoodnj.net/images/Ridgewood/Departments/Clerk/muni2016_MUNI_2012.pdf

For a more legible type size, click on the “plus” sign in the middle of the band across the top of the screen or use the tiny arrows to increase the percentage to 200%. To read the part of the table that no longer shows, hold your cursor on the “right arrow” at the bottom right of the screen.

A small map showing the borders of each voting district can be found on the 2016 village calendar: flip one page in from the back cover. We have asked Dylan Hansen, Director, Management Information System, Village of Ridgewood, to post the map on the village website for general and future reference. He said he would, probably today.

The polling place list, by district, below can be deceptive; for example, District 12, surrounding Travell School to the south and west, votes at the high school. Check the voting map for a better idea of who lives where.

District                  Polling place

1, 2, 3                       Willard
4,7                             GW
5, 6, 10                     Orchard
8, 11                          Travell
9                                Library
12, 13                        RHS
14                              Glen
15, 16                        BF
17, 18                        Somerville
19                              Hawes

District 12 came out in force at 48% of registered voters there—a first? District 1 at 41% and District 15 at 40% displayed similarly impressive shows of strength.

Our new council members have a lot to do. They are eager to start.

They will be sworn in at noon on Friday, July 1, in the 4th-floor courtroom at Village Hall. At that time the current regime will officially end. The public is, as always, invited.

Onward.

Growth is necessary- responsibly. Revitalization is a good thing- when handled by careful, thoughtful people. Please, please come out and vote on Tuesday and elect Voigt, Walsh, and Hache

Vote Ridgewood

Dear Neighbors,
I am writing not simply to express my support for 3 candidates in the council election, but to endorse record participation in the election process.

I am vocally in support of candidates Bernadette Coghlan-Walsh (line 4), Jeff Voigt (line 1), and Ramon Hache (line 8). I have spent a great deal of time speaking with them, and getting to know them. I have a tremendous respect for each one, as do a great number of people who’s opinions I hold in a very high regard. Additionally, I support these 3 because I have personally spoken to them at length regarding the pressing issues that Ridgewood is facing.

Multi family housing, which will affect our schools tremendously, our infrastructure, our water, our police and fire, fields, and village programs. That building at this density and in the proposed locations, is not at all in keeping with the character of this village, and how can we mitigate the irreversible damage that will be caused if, and when, it is completed.

Valley Hospital, and its proposed expansion. It’s utter disregard for the neighborhood that it resides in, and it’s community as a whole. How the hospitals need to modernize must be done while respecting that it is a community hospital residing within a residential neighborhood tucked next to elementary and middle schools.

Being a life long Ridgewood resident, these issues, in conjunction with so many others, weigh heavily on me. Being residents here for decades themselves; the importance of these issues hits home to these 3 as well.

Ramon, Bernie, and Jeff are not a group. They’re not a bloc. They don’t agree with me about everything, they won’t agree with YOU about everything, and they don’t agree with each other about everything, and I like that.

I like to see that they will have to, and have had to, engage in actual conversation with each other, and I know they will welcome conversation with residents. Something that has been deeply, and purposefully lacking in the last 4 years of council interaction.

Unlike the other 3 candidates in this election who have chosen to run as a trio, Bernie, Ramon, and Jeff are beholden to no one. They’re not bought and sold. They’ve signed no pledges making any promises to ANYONE. This is not because they don’t want to see certain projects completed. On the contrary! They would like to see, for example, the garage built. BUT, they’re unwilling to sign a pledge to anyone to make promises. They have the integrity, and the intelligence to know that NO one should ask that of them, and even more importantly, the integrity and intelligence to say no.

I’ve seen them dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to this election process while still being dedicated to their families, friends, and jobs. I know when elected they will see it through. We can expect positive changes. We can expect the sun to come out after 4 years of storms. I, for one, am looking forward to it.

Ultimately, I hope my neighbors and friends DO simply find the time to get out and vote. This election, and its outcome, are crucial to our future, our kids future. What happens in the coming few years will have the ability to change the landscape of this town forever. The history here is so precious, and we are supposed to protect it. Staying home, forgetting, or not participating on Tuesday is leaving that history, and so many of the qualities that make living here special, vulnerable to damage that we can, and should, prevent. I feel it’s our responsibility to vote- even more than a right-It’s our duty. It pains me to know that 2 other candidates running in this election, have either NEVER exercised that right here in town, or have done so less than 5 times in decades of residency. It’s simply too important to have your voice heard, and to use your vote to effect change.

Growth is necessary- responsibly. Revitalization is  a good thing- when handled by careful, thoughtful people. Please, please come out and vote on Tuesday and elect Voigt, Walsh, and Hache to be those people for us.

Polls are open on Tuesday 6am to 8pm. Remind your neighbors, remind your friends. Take an elderly family member to the polls, but please, please don’t stay home.
Sincerely,<

Melanie Hooban McWilliams

Don’t forget to vote May 10, 2016!!
Voigt, Walsh, Hache!!!
