Sussex County Freeholders Vote to Reopen County

Newton NJ , The members of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted unanimously at their Wednesday night meeting on resolutions urging Governor Phil Murphy to fully reopen Sussex
County businesses in the near future; and a resolution against the increase in taxes and fees on firearms and ammunitions.

“I am very concerned that we will have a poor survival rate of many of our businesses,” said Freeholder Herbert Yardley. “I find it very unfortunate there was not an opportunity to say, ‘Let’s
see if it (a regional reopening) works.’”

Hackensack Meridian Health Residential Care Cited for OSHA Violations

Hackensack NJ, The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Hackensack Meridian Health Residential Care Inc. OSHA issued two serious citations and one other-than-serious violation for failing to protect employees from exposure to the coronavirus at its North Bergen, New Jersey, facility. OSHA proposed a penalty of $28,070 for the violations.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas to inform enslaved people of the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and their freedom.

Mahwah NJ, The New York Stock Exchange is signaling that it will move its electronic trading systems out of New Jersey if the state implements a Governor Murphy proposed tax on financial transactions. The NYSE said Friday that it will run one of its exchanges from a backup site in Chicago for a week as a demonstration of its readiness to quit the state, according to a notice sent to clients.

Lodi NJ, Governor Murphy today signed legislation (A4486) which authorizes the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to use stored driver’s license or identification card photos for longer than eight years and limits certain appointment times at MVC locations to senior citizens and persons with certain medical conditions during COVID-19 pandemic.  The Governor also signed A4520, which temporarily extends deadlines to register vehicles and obtain driver’s licenses for new State residents during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Ridgewood NJ, On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including 12 people from Ridgewood , which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.
