Oxford UK, The Phase 3 clinical trial for AstraZeneca’s candidate SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (developed in collaboration with Oxford University) has been paused following the identification of a serious adverse event in one of the participants. Neither AstraZeneca nor Oxford University have yet disclosed details of the adverse event, which reportedly occurred in the UK; however, The New York Times reports that the patient developed transverse myelitis. It has not yet been determined whether the condition was associated with the vaccine. An earlier clinical trial for the AstraZeneca vaccine was also paused following the diagnosis of transverse myelitis in a participant, but the trial resumed after a safety review determined that the condition was not related to the vaccine.

Trenton NJ, The four Republican members of the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee offered a path to a balanced State Budget for 2021 that does not rely on the billions of dollars of borrowing and tax increases proposed by Governor Phil Murphy.

Ridgewood NJ, As an additional measure to protect customers and employees from the spread of COVID-19, NJ TRANSIT is introducing vending machines on a pilot basis to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes and disposable gloves at Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal. The machines will also be installed at other select stations over the coming weeks.

Among these are “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” which doesn’t include continual disruption of daily life by people obsessed with being in the spotlight.”

Washington DC, President Trump signed a memorandum yesterday to hold local politicians accountable for refusing to protect their communities from ongoing riots, lootings, and mass property destruction.
Per the memo, Federal agencies will identify what funds are provided to Seattle, Portland, New York City, and other jurisdictions that have allowed violence, lawlessness, and property damage to persist. Agencies will also determine what authorities are available to withhold these funds if and when necessary.
Where permissible, the Administration will restrict eligibility for certain Federal grants until these jurisdictions take the necessary steps to protect their residents.

Trenton NJ, Senator Steven Oroho has sent a letter to Senator Paul Sarlo, chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, calling for at least one Senate Budget Committee meeting to be open to public testimony. The public is currently not allowed to attend any of the Budget hearings. Committee members, invitees, and staff will participate from remote locations using video conferencing technology. The public may view the meeting through the State Legislatures homepage.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood saw witness to another “Black Lives Matter” protest on Saturday . Demonstrators were attempting to show solidarity with those demonstrating in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ridgewood protests so far have been high on drama but low on substance.
The groups Ridgewood for Black Liberation, Brother’s United Bike Club and other community allies gathered at Van Neste Square Memorial Park to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake, 29, who was shot multiple times by a police officer in the Wisconsin town 40 miles south of Milwaukee. The group also marched to protest other instances of what they claim is police brutality.
