Ridgewood NJ, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged US citizens currently overseas that wish to return home to do so as quickly as possible. Secretary Pompeo emphasized that the US government remains committed to repatriating US citizens during this crisis. However, the continued operation of international commercial air service remains uncertain, and the US government cannot guarantee that it will be able to coordinate charter flights in the future. The United States has repatriated 27,572 Americans from nearly 60 countries since the end of January.
So many April Fools’ jokes come to mind today…unfortunately, none are funny. I wrote this sentence first thing this morning; then, many people called, texted, and even forwarded an April Fools’ Day letter allegedly from my office saying we have no April break and are going to be in school until July 21st…not true! But, it was kind of funny and “got” me and many others. People are creative.
Trenton NJ, The New Jersey state tax filing deadline WILL BE EXTENDED from April 15th to July 15th.Additionally, the state fiscal year will be extended to September 30th to allow us to focus on leading our state out of this crisis.
ROSELAND NJ, The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) strongly urges Governor Murphy to sign A-3841/S-2300, which would extend filing deadlines for New Jersey’s state income tax and corporate business tax to June 30.
Forty-five states have extended their various tax deadlines; 37 have extended to July 15 and eight have extended to other dates. New Jersey is the only state with a personal income tax that has not announced a tax filing extension.

Maroon Monday: Ridgewood gear! As Superintendent of the Ridgewood Public Schools, I have plenty. Back in the good old days when my wife, Sue (she asked me not to only refer to her as my wife…. done) and I cleaned out some closets, we found 17 Ridgewood sweatshirts, dozens of t-shirts, and much more. We did not donate any. My kids participated in sports at RHS, so we had plenty of gear to go around.
Team up Tuesday: I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. Ok, stop rolling your eyes and muttering under your breath. For all of you Giants fans, Jason Garret is your problem now.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use to Abbott Laboratories for the point-of-care COVID-19 test. The Illinois-based company said the test can give positive results in as little as five minutes, and negative results in about 13 minutes.
School budget supports the district’s mission and vision
This year’s election faces many challenges due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, which has resulted in the closure of schools, businesses, and public spaces across the country. On Thursday, March 19, Gov. Murphy announced that Annual School Elections scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, will be postponed until Tuesday, May 12, and will be conducted solely via vote-by-mail ballots, which will be sent to all registered voters.
These unprecedented yet necessary measures to flatten the curve and lessen the burden on our health care system have already had a significant impact on our daily lives. Parents are juggling work schedules and remote learning for their children. Grocery stores are scrambling to restock items as quickly as possible, but shelves continue to be emptied. Our beautiful, vibrant downtown is still and quiet; our businesses are being hit hard. People are feeling isolated and disconnected. As the district leader and a community member, I empathize with the students who miss their classmates, teachers, and school activities, the elderly who are alone, the individuals who are being laid off, and the health care workers who are on the front line of this crisis.
Hackensack NJ, Gannett announced Monday it is cutting pay and furloughing ” journalists” at its newspapers across the country as ad revenue plunges during the coronavirus pandemic.
Gannett is the publisher of more than 100 newspapers, including ,North Jersey Media Group, USA Today, the Detroit Free Press, The Columbus Dispatch and The Arizona Republic, is reportedly furloughing workers who make more than $38,000. Those employees will be subject to furloughs of one week per month in April, May and June, according to a tweet from investigative reporter Gregory Holman of the Springfield News-Leader in Missouri, a Gannett-owned paper.
Modern companies, especially law firms are consistently looking for new ways to increase their work efficiency and employee productivity. However, only less than 30% have enabled technological innovation for their employees. The rest still follows traditional means of running a law firm and thus, face many challenges in today’s world of technological advancement. Nevertheless, those companies that have implemented innovative software for workflow management in their firms are now delivering good efficiency and workflow.
Ridgewood NJ, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal, and New Jersey Acting State Comptroller Kevin D. Walsh today announced the formation of a joint federal-state task force to investigate and prosecute a wide range of misconduct arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, including the unlawful hoarding of medical supplies, price gouging, charity scams, procurement fraud, insurance fraud, phishing schemes, and false and misleading investment opportunities.
In response to recent updates, I have received several emails asking that we teach through the spring break. First and foremost, parents, students, and teachers are tired. This weariness is not necessarily from the hard academic work, but most likely from the stress we are all experiencing. While our intent is not to add pressure to this already difficult situation, remote learning is stressful for everyone involved nonetheless.

Paramus NJ, The NJ EMS Task Force has been providing logistics and administrative at the COVID-19 testing site at Bergen Community College in Paramus as well as the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel since they began operations. The NJEMSTF has been deploying tent structures at medical facilities in the region as part of its work during the Covid-19 crisis. Members of the NJ EMS Task Force are on hand to support local, state and national partners for the fight against the COVID-19 virus.
New York NY , The Military Sealift Command hospital ship, USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), departed Naval Station Norfolk today for New York City in support of the nation’s Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) response efforts.
The USNS Comfort is set to dock some time around 10 a.m. and it will be ready to take in patients within 24 hours. While the ship won’t be able to treat people with COVID-19, its 1,000 beds and 12 operation rooms are ready to bolster the health care system. The Comfort, along with USNS Mercy, which was sent to the West Coast, will be able to treat anyone from minor cases to patients in critical condition.
The ship will serve as a referral hospital for patients not infected with COVID-19, providing a full spectrum of medical care to include general surgeries, critical care and ward care for adults, while allowing shore-based civilian hospitals to focus on their medical care devoted to the treatment of COVID 19 patients.
NEW BRUNSWICK NJ, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) (the Company) today announced the selection of a lead COVID-19 vaccine candidate from constructs it has been working on since January 2020; the significant expansion of the existing partnership between the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA); and the rapid scaling of the Company’s manufacturing capacity with the goal of providing global supply of more than one billion doses of a vaccine. The Company expects to initiate human clinical studies of its lead vaccine candidate at the latest by September 2020 and anticipates the first batches of a COVID-19 vaccine could be available for emergency use authorization in early 2021, a substantially accelerated timeframe in comparison to the typical vaccine development process.
