Rochelle Park NJ, Firefighters from Rochelle Park, Maywood, and Hackensack worked in unison to free an adult male driver who was entrapped in his Toyota Corolla following a multi vehicle crash on Route 17 northbound in Rochelle Park on Tuesday afternoon, 11/06. Route 17 northbound was closed in the immediate area while emergency personnel aided crash victims, contained crash related fluid spills, and cleared the roadway of wreckage.

Fair Lawn NJ, Personnel from Fair Lawn Fire Department, the Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue Squad, and Elmwood Park Fire Department deployed a small boat to rescue the occupants of a 4-door sedan who became trapped in their vehicle by rising flood waters late Saturday afternoon, 08/11. The incident occurred on eastbound Broadway, under the NJ Transit railroad trestle, Fair Lawn shortly after 5 PM. All occupants were safely removed from the car and refused medical aid. A tow truck removed the soaked vehicle from the roadway.

Ridgewood NJ, Members of Ridgewood Fire Department Engine Company #35 and Rescue Company #42 responded to a single family home in the 400 block of Dorchester Road, Ridgewood on Saturday night, 07/21 to rescue a kitten who had become trapped within one of the home’s interior walls. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to assist in locating the feline, who was successfully rescued within 30 minutes of their arrival on scene. Ridgewood Police also responded to the incident. Property damage to the home was minimal. The somewhat traumatized kitten, Toby, was immediately wrapped in a blanket and placed in his master’s arms.

Paramus NJ, A Tuesday morning, 07/17, motor vehicle collision involving two (2) vehicles at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Spring Valley Road, Paramus required the services of Paramus Rescue Squad’s “Jaws of Life” to free the driver of a 4-door sedan who was trapped in her vehicle post crash impact. Paramus Police and Paramus EMS also responded to the incident. Paramus EMS ambulances transported two (2) crash victims to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus. Both vehicles, the sedan and an SUV, were removed by flatbed tow trucks.

Washington DC, U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested nine U.S. citizens for smuggling 64 illegal aliens in five separate events over the weekend.
“In addition to securing and protecting our nation’s borders, frontline Border Patrol agents are committed to reducing heat-related injuries and preventing deaths along our borders,” stated U.S. Border Patrol Acting Chief Carla L. Provost. “These rescues are a result of stepped-up enforcement at our immigration checkpoints coupled with our search and rescue efforts that are key to preventing unnecessary loss of life.”
In the last two months, Border Patrol agents have thwarted 42 smuggling attempts involving tractor trailers, rescuing 406 people from possible death due to soaring temperatures along the Southwest border.
On June 30, agents arrested an adult female for attempting to smuggle 10 individuals through a Border Patrol immigration checkpoint. The individuals were discovered in the sleeper cab of the truck after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics and people in the tractor trailer.
That same day, two adult females driving a box truck were arrested for smuggling 7 illegal aliens through the same Border Patrol immigration checkpoint. The individuals were concealed and locked inside of the truck. Three hours later, agents arrested two men attempting to smuggle 21 people concealed inside a box truck. After a K-9 alerted, agents conducted a search of the cargo area and discovered people hiding behind stacks of tires.
On July 1, agents arrested two individuals attempting to smuggle 14 people through a Border Patrol immigration checkpoint. The individuals were discovered concealed in the sleeper compartment of the truck. Later that day, agents arrested two people for smuggling 12 people who were locked in the trailer compartment of an 18-wheeler. All of the smugglers were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for prosecution.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol has stepped up its search and rescue efforts in an attempt to prevent heat-related deaths along the Arizona border. This week, temperatures in Arizona are expected to exceed 115 degrees.

Ridgewood NJ, A 15-month old girl was trapped in her car seat for over one (1) hour after live electric wires fell on her parent’s parked SUV when tree limb broke off and fell to the ground. The incident occurred in front of 112 Oak Street, Ridgewood late Friday afternoon, 05/25. The unharmed girl was safely removed from the vehicle and reunited with her parents after a PSE&G technician cut power to the area. Ridgewood Police, Fire Department, Emergency Services, and OEM personnel responded to the incident.
Ridgewood Police reported that power to the east side of town would be restored by 8:00pm. PSE&G was clearing wires from a tree that fell in front of the YMCA on Oak Street.

Ho Ho kus NJ, According to the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department , at approximately 16:52 hours Department 7 responded to a residence on Bernard Place for a fallen tree onto a house and vehicle with an occupant trapped inside the vehicle. Arriving units advised live wires were involved and reported access problems to the trapped occupant. PSE&G was dispatched before rescue operations could begin. Once power was secured to the area companies extricated the occupant who was transferred to the care of EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The home involved suffered extensive structural damage. Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police, Fire Department, and EMS personnel rushed to aid an adult female who was entrapped under a large fallen tree at the intersection of Heights Road and Woodland Avenue on Saturday morning, 03/03. The women was out walking her dog when the huge tree fell on her.
Heavy rescue equipment and hand tools were used by several Ridgewood firefighters who worked feverishly to free the severely injured woman. Once removed, the victim was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Center’s main campus. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital assisted Ridgewood EMTs.

Mahwah NJ, Multiple injuries were reported in late Thursday afternoon, 12/14, three (3) vehicle crash on Route 17 northbound in Mahwah. The accident occurred at a highway work site being guarded by NJSP Troopers. Mahwah Fire Department resources were required to free an individual who was trapped in the rear of a utility vehicle working at the guarded job site. A loaded passenger van and a 4-door sedan were also involved in the crash Several ambulances were called to the scene. Occupants of the passenger van sought shelter in the lobby of a nearby office building A flatbed tow truck was standing by at the site to begin removing the wreckage. Mahwah Police and Mahwah EMS also responded, along with mutual aid ambulances from commercial providers.

Garfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor GURBIR S. GREWAL announced animal cruelty charges brought against JESUS GABRIEL VALENTIN RIVERA (DOB: 6/22/81, single; and unemployed) of 3812 Pinehurst Drive, Deltona, Florida, VANESSA MILLAN (DOB: 05/04/86, single; and unemployed) of 650 Kenwick Circle, Apt#102, Casselberry, Florida, and ELAINE RAMOS (DOB: 7/13/90, single; and unemployed) of 263 Rose Petal Place, Altamonte Springs, Florida. The charges are the result of an investigation led by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Animal Cruelty Task Force under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
On Saturday, August 19, 2017, the Animal Cruelty Task Force received information about a suspicious van in the parking lot of a store in Garfield. Task Force members, assisted by the Garfield Police Department, approached the van, which was occupied by VALENTIN RIVERA, MILLAN and RAMOS and discovered 26 English and French bulldog puppies. The dogs were contained within two cages and one cooler, all of which were feces-littered. One of the cages housed thirteen of the puppies. The temperature in Garfield that day was 90 degrees, and the puppies had no access to water.
On August 19, 2017, VALENTIN RIVERA, MILLAN and RAMOS were each charged with 26 counts of Animal Cruelty in violation of N.J.S.A. 4:22-17(a)(3), a disorderly person’s offense. The defendants were charged on summonses and their court date is scheduled for October 3, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. before the Honorable Louis J. Dinice, J.M.C. in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would also like to thank the Animal Cruelty Task Force and the Garfield Police Department for their investigation.

Glen Rock NJ, The drivers of both vehicles involved in a Wednesday afternoon, 07/12, collision at the intersection of Park and South Maple Avenues in Glen Rock escaped injury. A toddler who was strapped into a rear seat mounted child restraint device in one of the vehicles was also unharmed. A tow truck removed both wrecks from the scene. Glen Rock PD handled the investigation

Fair Lawn NJ, The Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue Squad used the “Jaws of Life” to free a woman who was trapped in her 4-door sedan after it collided with a work van at the intersection of Hemlock Avenue and Maple Avenue in Fair Lawn on Tuesday morning, 07/11. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. A second victim, a front seat passenger in the work van, also left the scene in an ambulance. He too sustained what appeared to have been non life threatening injuries. Fair Lawn PD and FD also responded along with mutual aid ambulances from three (3) separate EMS agencies. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by tow trucks.
