Visitors to Ridgewood’s Central Business District Prefer “Free Parking”

Ridgewood Nj, looks like the Benjamin at 1 Franklin avenue in Ridgewood has a parking problem . The problem being that visitors to the central business district have been grabbing up the assigned spots instead of paying for parking on central business district streets or in the parking garage on Hudson Street . Gee wiz would would have thunk it? Just another ancillary issue created by poor Village planning and please don’t blame it on “climate change” .

The following comment was posted in one of the local Facebook groups :

“Hi Neighbors,
Important PSA – the parking lot at The Benjamin (1 Franklin Avenue) is private parking for residents, guests of residents and customers/employees of Compass ONLY. It is not free public parking. As of this morning, all of our visitor spots and half of Compass’ retail spots are taken by people who walked into town, to the train or to one of the businesses on Chestnut Street. These vehicles are getting a final warning ticket today and will be towed the next time they are illegally parked on our property.
I hate towing people just as much as people hate to be towed – so please, please just stop parking in our lot.”

High density housing can bring some benefits to a municipality, such as increased housing availability and reduced urban sprawl. However, there are also several potential disadvantages to high density housing, including:

  1. Strain on Infrastructure: High density housing typically means a large number of people living in a small area, which can put a strain on the municipality’s infrastructure. Roads, public transportation, and utilities such as water and sewage may not be equipped to handle the increased demand, leading to congestion and potential service disruptions.
  2. Reduced Quality of Life: High density housing can result in overcrowding, noise, and air pollution, which can all contribute to a reduced quality of life for residents. Additionally, high density housing may lack outdoor space or greenery, which can negatively impact mental health.
  3. Limited Housing Options: High density housing may dominate the housing market in a municipality, leaving fewer options for those who prefer lower density living. This can result in an imbalance in the housing market and limit the diversity of housing options available.
  4. Increased Crime Rates: High density housing can also contribute to increased crime rates in a municipality. This is because a high concentration of people living in a small area can make it easier for criminal activity to go unnoticed and for criminal networks to form.
  5. Lack of Community: High density housing may lack a sense of community compared to lower density housing options. This is because residents may not have as much space or opportunity to socialize with their neighbors, leading to feelings of isolation or loneliness.

Overall, while high density housing can help address the housing shortage in a municipality, it’s important to carefully consider the potential drawbacks and address them through planning and development strategies, which the Village of Ridgewood did not.

  1. And they also prefer and PATRONIZE other towns’ CBD’s where there is free parking.

But then parking has always been an unsolved issue in Richwood. Fear not, there will be free parking by the ball fields………………..
