Ridgewood NJ, late this morning the Ridgewood blog has received word the one council member has opted out of endorsing  Maura McMahon DeNicola .We had previously received information that the entire Mayor & Council of the Village of Ridgewood had endorsed Maura McMahon DeNicola for the District 40 Assembly vacancy left by the departure and Judgeship of Scott Rumana.

Maura said , “I can’t thank Ridgewood enough for their confidence in my leadership. The County Committee election for this vacancy will be held Tuesday evening – a very fast process and one in which I am working diligently”

Ridgewood NJ,The Staate New Jersey released the latest PARCC standardized test results for every public school across the state on Wednesday, giving Ridgekwood parents a chance to see how their schools performed in math and English in grades 3-11.

RESOLVED, That there shall be raised an additional $929,800 for General Funds in the 2016-17 School Year. These taxes will be used to employ additional personnel and to acquire additional equipment and supplies in order to implement the District’s full-day Kindergarten program. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase in the District’s tax levy. The additional taxes authorized herein will be used exclusively for purposes described herein and to finance expenditures that are in addition to those necessary to achieve the Core Curriculum Content Standards.

BOE Approves REA Contract

Ridgewood NJ, The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad Unit was summoned to the Stop & Shop supermarket at 175 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood on Sunday morning, 11/20 to investigate a suspicious canvas bag that was found next to the building’s northernmost outside wall. Output from a portable x-ray device deployed by bomb squad personnel showed the bag contained neither electronics nor explosives. Contents of the bag were turned over to Ridgewood PD officers for return to their owner, or disposal. A portion of the store’s parking lot was cordoned off while the investigation was underway. However, the building was not evacuated.

You Can’t Take It with You is a comedic play in three acts by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The original production of the play premiered on Broadway in 1936, and played for 838 performances.

The play won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and was adapted for the screen as You Can’t Take It with You, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director.

TUBACHRISTMAS coming to Ridgewood

Ridgewood NJ, For those who are new to TUBACHRISTMAS, it is an event that allows tuba and euphonium players of all ages and abilities to come together to play holiday music specifically arranged for their instruments. The first TUBACHRISTMAS took place at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, December 22, 1974. Since then TUBACHRISTMAS events have been held all over the world.

This year’s event in conjunction with the second concert in the Ridgewood Concert Band’s (RCB)34th Season promises to be an exciting night of music for audience and musicians alike. TUBACHRISTMAS participants will rehearse and then will be invited to enjoy the RCB portion of the program, which will include Commando March (Barber), Yiddish Dances, and Nutcracker Suite (Tchaikovsky). Tuba soloist Mike Salzman will also be featured. The concert will conclude with the TUBACHRISTMAS performance of carols arranged for tuba and euphoniums.

Ridgewood NJ, In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Francesca Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta in Glen Rock and Francesca Pizza & Pasta in Elmwood Park recently presented checks to support the Ridgewood YMCA’s Living Strong, Living Well cancer patient and survivor program.

Salvatore Reina, owner of both restaurants, said “We wanted to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a customer recommended the Ridgewood Y’s Living Strong, Living Well Program. So from October 1st through 15th, our two restaurants each donated $1 for every large pie sold, raising over $900 between the two pizzerias”.

Amy Phillips, Development Director at the Ridgewood YMCA, said, “We are so grateful to Salvatore Reina for his generous donation in support of our Living Strong, Living Well Program”

Living Strong, Living Well is a 12-week strength and fitness program developed by Stanford University for cancer patients and survivors and is offered free of charge by the Ridgewood YMCA. The program also includes a 3 month Triangle membership to the Y.

Readers suggest , The Ridgewood “parking problem” is all about laziness

The Ridgewood “parking problem” is all about laziness, where people want to find a space on a Friday night or Saturday right in the prime area of the CBD. Heaven forbid that they have to walk two blocks, or even 10 minutes from their actual house.

No garage required. The town has a wonderful design. The original design trumps the shop keepers. That’s what makes Ridgewood what it is, a charming quaintish historical architecture downtown. Some business will make it, some won’t.

By the way, what no one says is that there are many times in any mall and I am talkin WestField, Fashion Center, Paramus Park, when it is difficult to find an up close parking spot near your favorite store, and sometimes any parking spot. No one says that. So why shouldn’t it be crowded in tiny Ridgewood downtown.

I mean, hey, you walk the WHOLE downtown and I’ll tell you folks, it doesn’t count as an exercise walk to prevent heart disease and cancer , the heart organization and cancer society says is necessary for good health. I mean it is that tiny. So what the f..k.

Take a walk those who want a parking garage. Meaning Go Away!

Upon further review, there is no parking problem in Ridgewood. While parking in town can be occasionally inconvenient, there has never been a need for the 5 story structure that nearly got built.
