My questions to the Library:
Who requested and who authorized the use of reserves to be marked as a donation? What was the amount? What meetings and discussions took place to determine this course of action, and who were the participants of that meeting?
Who proposed and who authorized the donation from Friends? What allows Friends to use donated funds in ways other than what is indicated on the webpage?

Have you sent in your membership renewal yet?! Or become a new member? The Historical Society and Schoolhouse Museum operate SOLELY on donations from caring people like you. We receive absolutely no aid from from the State or Village. It costs roughly $25,000 per year to keep our doors open. If you are able to help us, in any way, however large or small, we would be so very grateful! You will find a donation tab on our website, or stop in and see how wonderful we are while dropping off your donation in person
Dear Ridgewood Resident,
Those actively involved in the Historical Society and the Schoolhouse Museum keep saying we are the best-kept secret in Ridgewood. The museum is Ridgewood’s very own and only museum, and we are working hard to make it less of a secret and more a recognized institution in the village. To that end, we have been changing our exhibits each year, and we are trying to bring in more visitors with programs above and beyond the exhibits.
If you haven’t visited our 2017 exhibit From the Revolutionary War to the Revolution of the of the 1960’s, please find time to visit. We also have three other small exhibits: A Tribute to the 19th Century Comedic Actor Joe Jefferson, 50 Small Things with Big Histories, and our permanent installation on farm tools.
Last fall we were busy with our cemetery walks, our celebration of all things apple, and a series of demonstrations by craftswomen. This spring we have had three great speakers: Bob Bracken on the Titanic, Chris Stout on Ridgewood’s Heroes, and Patricia Hans and her students sharing their research and creative responses to the stories they uncovered.
All of this, of course, is possible because of the participation and financial support of people like you who value the Ridgewood Historical Society’s efforts to preserve and share out local history. We want to keep the Schoolhouse Museum not only alive but flourishing, and hope you will join us as a supporter. Thank you for your commitment to the Ridgewood Historical Society.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I send our heartfelt appreciation for your support. We welcome you as a member of the society and look forward to seeing you at the museum soon!
With Warm Regards,
Candace Latham, Board President

“Keep your life free from love of money.”
“Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor.”
“Do good… be rich in good works… be generous and ready to share.”
Christians consider the Bible to be our source of truth in matters of faith. And the Bible says more about money than it does about heaven and hell combined. Nearly half of Jesus’ teaching related to money, and there are over 2,300 verses pertaining to money in the Bible. Clearly, it occupies an important place in what we consider to be God’s inspired word. So, what does it say?
In short, three things:
• All of our wealth originates from and belongs to God.
• In light of this, our wealth should be used for God’s purposes.
• God’s purpose is to restore the world to wholeness. This occurs spiritually through salvation in Jesus Christ, and physically through our service and giving to serve the poor, needy, and weak.
Implicit in these three statements is the idea that our wealth is not our own. As followers of Jesus we believe that we have been bought with a price – when He died for us, we were purchased into His eternal family, accepted and redeemed. In light of what He’s done for us, nothing but radical and total submission to His purposes would be reasonable.
Thus, our wealth is not to be used for our own goals, but rather subsumed into the greater purposes of God. Since we believe it is God who enables us to get wealth in the first place, and that we are the recipients of His great grace in our lives, our natural and joyful response is to engage in radical generosity on behalf of the Christian church and the poor.
This gets expressed in a variety of ways, but a few real-life examples might paint a picture of what 21st-century Christian giving looks like in its highest and best form:
• Mark and Megan, in their late 20’s, are so thankful for Mark’s $50,000 bonus he earned at his law firm. Joyfully and with a great sense of purpose, they give the entire amount away toward international justice efforts for the poor, and a Christian camp they admire. They rank the opportunity to give to God’s work more highly than their own potential enjoyment of this money, including their imminent need for a home down-payment.
• Tom and Bree relocate to a poor neighborhood, despite Tom’s very high income. They read about God’s heart for the poor in the Bible, and they want to know God’s heart. They lead a Bible study for the community, and eventually welcome a family in need to stay in their home for a while, while they get back on their feet. They give a huge fraction of their income away, raising their family on the median family income out of a desire to serve the world around them.
• Greg and Alison are home shopping. They buy a house that is only about half of the value of what they can afford, because they want to be able to give generously to address international poverty and spread the Christian message of hope, and don’t want to be tied down by their mortgage. The house is less than what they’d like to have, but they’re thankful God has given them money to share with others.
Paul’s Goodbye
The Apostle Paul stands second only to Jesus in his influence on the Christian faith. In his final goodbye to the Christian community around him, he gave them this charge:
“And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. I coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
He commends them to the word of God’s grace – i.e. the Christian message of spiritual salvation. And then, he tells them that he never coveted money, and goes on to charge them to help the weak and remember that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Why is Paul mixing up money behaviors with the spiritual message of God’s grace? Consistent with the rest of the Bible, Paul didn’t see money and spiritual matters as separable. His life, free of covetousness and fully generous, was evidence of God’s grace acting in his heart. As the well-known Christian Pastor Tim Keller says, reflecting on this passage,
“To the degree you understand the Gospel of grace, you will live a radically generous life! If you truly have a spiritual inheritance, you are going to be promiscuously generous with your earthly inheritance.”
Christian giving springs from our view of God. Because we believe he emptied himself and gave everything for us, we have no proper response but to turn around, face the world around us, and give ourselves away.

Paramus NJ in what could be only considered a media event with no chance of swaying opinions 12 protesters called on Fidelity Investments storefront on Route 17 in Paramus to stop financially backing the campaign of CD5 Republican Congressman Scott Garrett.
The rally was made up of the same 12 people who have been protesting Garrett and supporting his opponent
Josh Gottheimer ,included Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-38), representatives from New Jersey Citizen Action, Garden State Equality, College Democrats of New Jersey and Ramapo College Democrats. Apparently the few protesters were unaware that a branch office in New Jersey has almost zero input to Fidelity Investments corporate donation policy.
These “rent a mob” protests have been in response to controversial remarks Garrett “allegedly” made last year that he would not support the House Republican campaign arm because of support for gay candidates.
No evidence or transcripts have ever surfaced as to the nature of these “alleged” comments . Most insiders suspect the entire controversy was manufactured by former House Speaker John “cry baby” Boehner. Who Garrett had voted against his disastrous tenure as Speaker of The House.
While the media loves events like theses that are custom tailored to fit the “evil ,mean ,GOP ” narrative Garrett’s Democratic opposition Josh Gottheimer has had far worse problems with donors . It seems Josh Gottheimer campaign has been partly financed by foreign money .Accepting donations from son of a billionaire Saudi businessman, and infamous wife beater Ibrahim Al-Rashid . Even Senator Harry Reid won’t take Al-Rashid’s money, yet political insider Josh Gottheimer has embraced Al-Rashid, to the disgust of residents of the Fifth District.
To make matters worse Gottheimer has also accepted donations from disgraced NJ Senator Bob “the Torch” Torricelli an Englewood Democrat who abandoned his bid for a second term in the U.S. Senate 13 years ago under an ethical cloud . So bad was Torricelli’s discretion’s he was forced out by his own party. Torricelli quite following a series of seamy revelations that he’d accepted lavish gifts from businessman David Chang, which in turned prompted the Senate Ethics Committee to issue a formal letter of admonishment.
Ridgewood Nj, NJ.COM is reporting that Josh Gottheimer received $1,000 from former disgraced former NJ Senator Bob”the Torch,” Torricelli . “The Torch” was the subject of a lengthy federal ethics probe that ended his political career in 2002.
The Torch, as he’s known, was forced out nearly 13 years ago following a series of seamy revelations that he’d accepted lavish gifts from David Chang,a businessman North Korean ties which in turned prompted the Senate Ethics Committee to issue a formal letter of admonishment.
Many credit Torricelli’s swift fall from grace because he was so good at alienating fellow Democrats and was incapable of taking any blame for his misdeeds. Others say his lavish lifestyle ,expensive watches and suits rubbed too many people the wrong way .

STATE HOUSE BUREAU |
THE RECORD
Companies with public contracts in New Jersey gave a record amount of money last year to a new breed of political advocacy groups that can influence elections without facing the state’s tough pay-to-play restrictions and disclosure requirements.
Although it was an electoral off-year with no statewide candidates on the ballot, contractors gave $1.8 million to PACs and outside groups in 2014, a 16 percent rise over the previous year, according to a report released Tuesday by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. Direct donations from contractors to candidates’ campaigns fell 15 percent, to $9.1 million, ELEC reported.
“Independent groups are becoming a major force in politics, both nationally and in New Jersey,” said Jeff Brindle, the executive director of ELEC. Contractors are pouring more funds into those groups because “it’s a way around the law — it’s a way around pay-to-play” restrictions, and it allows many donors to remain anonymous, Brindle said.
New Jersey law generally bars any company with a contract worth more than $17,500 from giving more than $300 to gubernatorial candidates and party fundraising committees. Any contractor that gives money has to file a disclosure with ELEC.
