The second open forum on the CBD will take place Wednesday, August 20, at the Ridgecrest Senior Apartments at 7-11 Ridge Road, Ridgewood, starting at 7:30 PM. From 7:30 to 8:00 PM, the microphone will be open to speakers who did not speak at the July forum. From 8:00 until 9:00 PM there will be a panel discussion among residents of ideas advanced to date. All are welcome, naturally subject to the meeting room’s capacity.
(CNSNews.com) – The average price for all types of ground beef per pound hit its all-time high — $3.884 per pound — in the United States in July, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
That was up from $3.880 per pound in June. A year ago, in July 2013, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $3.459 per pound. Since then, the average price for a pound of ground beef has gone up 42.1 cents–or about 12 percent.
Five years ago, in July 2009, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $2.147, according to the BLS. In those five years, the average price has climbed by $1.737 per pound–or almost 81 percent.

Phil Mickelson has already written off 2014.
That is not speculation or conjecture, it is fact. Mickelson himself admitted as much yesterday afternoon, standing in the thicket of towering oak trees off the right side of the 18th fairway at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus. He acknowledges that this season has been one to forget. That even though he almost won a PGA Championship in the process, he arrives at The Barclays this week to begin the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs already looking ahead to next year.
“I’m actually more looking forward to 2015 and after these next few events — after the Ryder Cup — I’ll probably take the rest of the year off,” Mickelson said. “Work on my fitness, work on my golf game and really focus on 2015. Because 2015 is when the points start accumulating really for the (2016) Olympics.”
You will not see Mickelson attaching a white flag to the end of his Callaway driver. He reiterated that he is here to win and win each week and win the FedEx Cup for the first time in his career. But this is a lost season for the lovable lefty, one that — at age 44 — has put things into focus even more clearly.
Yes, winning a second PGA Championship and a sixth career major would’ve been a great accomplishment.

Ridgewood firefighters cook up camaraderie

Firefighters are notoriously resistant to change, according to Ridgewood Fire Capt. Christopher DuFlocq.
He gives a few historical anecdotes to back up that claim: “The horses don’t know where they’re going,” the men protested when animals were brought in to replace carrying gear on foot.
It was another battle when automobiles took over. “We can depend on the horses to start up every time,” they balked.
Now younger generations of firefighters are attempting to cross another frontier of doubt with the older crowd: healthier food for dinner. Yet somewhat surprisingly, most say the shift is easier to swallow.
“I eat dinner here that I normally wouldn’t eat at home,” admits DuFlocq, a 28-year career firefighter. “They’re always trying something new and most of the time I like it.”
He gives examples, “turkey burgers, different kinds of rice…”
From the kitchen of the East Glen Avenue firehouse, Firefighter Tom Shortway rolls his eyes. They can’t tell the difference, he insists, on whether beef or the lower-fat turkey goes into the meatloaf that he makes.

Remember ‘poor little trayvon’? The media showed pictures of him when he was TWELVE YEARS OLD. After the fact we finally saw the ACTUAL pictures of the 17 or 18 year old TEENAGE THUG.
Read the local newspapers. When there is a robbery, the local papers describe the robber, and will state that the suspect is Asian, middle eastern, white, or Hispanic. They will NEVER describe a suspect as black. WHen they leave out the race, its quite simple to ‘connect the dots’ and figure out what race it is.
THe media has done a dis-service to blacks by trying to hide their actions and created a racial divide that gets worse every day

James and his mother Jane were in Newark this afternoon to accept the annual Pride Award from the Essex County LGBTQ Pride Month Celebration. The Clementi family, who started a foundation in the wake of 18-year-old Tyler’s very publicized suicide weeks after starting his freshman year at Rutgers in 2010, was nominated to receive this year’s award by the county’s LGBTQ Advisory Board.
“I wish Tyler could have had the acceptance that he craved so much,” James Clementi said of his brother, who jumped off the George Washington Bridge days after his college roommate recorded and tweeted about Clementi’s sexual relationship with another man.
James and his parents said they started the Tyler Clementi Foundation in an attempt to work with struggling LGBTQ youths and their families, and to advocate for equality and against bullying.
“I wish [Tyler] could be here today,” James, who came out publicly himself in a People Magazine article after his brother’s suicide, said at the ceremony.

A shocking video has emerged showing an ISIS militant who speaks with a British accent brutally executing an American photojournalist who was kidnapped in Syria two years ago.
Graphic footage of the execution appeared in an video titled: ‘A Message to the U.S.’, in which an apparently coerced James Wright Foley, 40, describes America as his true killers for using airstrikes to assist Kurdish forces in recapturing the Mosul Dam from ISIS militants.
Foley – who went missing in 2012 while working for the Global Post news agency in Syria – is then beheaded with a small knife over a period of seven minutes by a masked man dressed all in black.
The executioner, who speaks directly to the camera in what appears to be a London accent, then warns that a second captured American journalist will be killed if the U.S. doesn’t halt the airstrikes.
Speaking after the video emerged, Foley’s mother Diane issued a statement saying that she and her husband John have ‘never been prouder’ of their son, who they say gave his life to expose the suffering of the Syrian people.
Dershowitz: Perry Indictment ‘What Happens in Totalitarian Societies’
The indictment of Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry over abuse of power and coercion is reminiscent of the way that political dissent was handled in the Soviet Union, legal scholar and Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum.”
Dershowitz, who make clear he would never vote for Rick Perry, said Monday the governor’s indictment was driven by politics and is representative of “what happens in totalitarian societies.”
He said disagreement with Perry’s actions is “not the basis of what a criminal charge should be,” adding that Americans have the ability to “vote against him” if they don’t like his actions.
Dershowitz, who calls himself a “liberal Democrat,” said he doesn’t “approve of [Perry’s] views on most matters, certainly on social matters.” However, he said Perry’s actions were “not the basis of what a criminal charge should be,” and explained the indictment was “political in nature, and that’s why I’m so opposed to it.”

Officer Wilson clearly feared for his life during the incident that led to the shooting death of Brown. Jersey native Morgan Hoffmann squeaks into The Barclays in his home state

Morgan Hoffmann couldn’t even bear to watch.
The Wyckoff, NJ, native knew what was on the line last week at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., coming into the final event before the FedEx Cup holding the No. 118 spot in the points standings.
With only the Top 125 moving on to The Barclays, starting on Thursday at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., Hoffmann needed a solid finish to ensure his appearance at the course he grew up just one town over from. And yet after celebrating his 25th birthday last Monday, he went out and missed the cut.
So he spent the weekend in North Carolina, pounding balls on the range, hitting putts into dusk — and never, ever, tuning in to see how the tournament was going.
“It was incredibly frustrating,” Hoffmann said on Monday, walking between the clubhouse and the range at Ridgewood with an air of confidence, knowing he snuck into his hometown event, and knowing he’ll have a gaggle of hometown support.
“I grew up a town over and I really wanted to make it,” Hoffmann said. “I’m just excited I’m here now and I get a chance.”
