Reader says Ms. Hauck who ran for office for the sole purpose of voting yes on the Valley expansion

GwennHauckExBdmemberCommunityRelations_theridgewoodblog.net_-300x199

Reader says Ms. Hauck who ran for office for the sole purpose of voting yes on the Valley expansion.

Much as I agree with Valley has been given years to fight for over expansion?, I’m also realistic about the ties that Valley has to Ridgewood’s public officials.

They have a long time associate on the Village Council in Ms. Hauck who ran for office for the sole purpose of voting yes on the Valley expansion. They have a sympathetic attorney on the Planning Board in Ms. Price that has set an absurd schedule that allows Valley’s “experts” to testify without having to questions from the public until weeks later.

Bad as Valley’s plans are for Ridgewood, don’t underestimate their ability to get their way. Valley’s opponents still have a massive uphill battle and should go to all of the meetings and demand accountability from any public official that supports this expansion.

CNN Survey names Ridgewood and Colts Neck among top-earning towns in the U.S.

Ridgewood NJ, According to CNN Money New Jersey has two of the 25 top-earning towns in the United States.

Ridgewood came in number 12 on the list, with a median home price of more than $600,000 and a median family income of $200,000, according to CNN.

Ridgewood according to CNN is a community of 25,000 witch also has a public high school that ranks among the top 200 in the country.

Colts Neck,a Monmouth County community of 10,000  was the second on the list and has family income just below and home price just above Ridgewood, according to CNN Money.

Old timers in the Village cringe at theses types of designations ,preferring to take a more low key approach to life ,while newer residents see to be a bit more flamboyant in their lifestyles.

Despite the these bright spots  economic troubles for the state  New Jersey do persist ,  6 percent of all mortgages are in foreclosure in the Garden State.

New Jersey’s unemployment rate was a staggering 8.7 percent in June, more than a point higher than the national average of 7.6 percent , with virtually no new net private sector jobs created in the two previous administrations and state housing prices in May only grew 2.9 percent year-over-year, significantly less than the national average of 12.2 percent.

Plan for TID questioned in Ridgewood

Plan for TID questioned in Ridgewood

The Ridgewood News

A series of questions and uncertainty regarding costs and the historic use of transportation improvement districts throughout New Jersey has prompted the Ridgewood Planning Board to ease off on an idea that several members once considered innovative and progressive.

Known as a TID, the designation essentially allows a municipality to collect money from prospective developers to fund future infrastructure projects such as upgrades to traffic signals and improvements to crosswalks. The amount of money that a developer pays into a TID account is established by the town and is contingent upon the scope of the proposed development.

The funding is typically banked until money is required for the community’s road projects.

John Jahr, a traffic consultant retained by the village last year, previously described a TID as a useful tool for both the town and the developer. The TID grants authority to a municipality to charge for any road improvements needed to offset the impact of potential development, while it gives developers a clear idea of their obligations rather than propose ornate traffic fixes.

Some communities have based their rates according to the square footage of a development, while others might use a formula factoring in the number of dwelling units. Other towns with TIDs consider traffic impact.

Ridgewood NJ, A rear end collision on North Maple Avenue near Cameron Lane resulted in no serious injuries, but tied up rush hour traffic for nearly an hour on Tuesday afternoon.

Ridgewood PD, FD, and EMS units all responded to the scene.  EMS personnel evaluated both drivers; neither wanted to be transported by ambulance for treatment.  FD personnel disconnected one vehicle’s battery to reduce the likelihood of fire and attended to a minor fluid spill, while PD officers investigated the crash and provided traffic control.   Both vehicles were removed from the scene by flatbed tow truck.

Within 45 minutes of the polls closing, Cory Booker, the Democratic mayor of Newark, and Steve Lonegan, a Republican former mayor of Bogota, were the apparent winners of Tuesday’s primaries for U.S. Senate.

Booker beat Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver of Essex County and Reps. Frank Pallone of Monmouth County and Rush Holt of Mercer County to win the Democratic nomination.

Lonegan topped Alieta Eck, a Somerset County physician, to win the Republican nomination. Lonegan had 81 percent of the vote.

While the fiery conservative Republican wasted no time attacking his opponent in the special election that is only 63 days away, Booker focused his remarks on cutting through the partisan gridlock in Washington to move the country and state forward.

What makes Ridgewood a village?

They say “it takes a village,” but what does it take to be a “village”?

When residents were asked why Ridgewood is a “village,” there were guesses, none of which were accurate. Some said it has to do with population. Another resident noted there is a rumor that the municipality will cease to be a village with the addition of one more traffic light.

To be fair, it’s kind of a trick question.

Using the technical definition, Ridgewood is not even a real “village.”

According to the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJSLM), a “village” is one of 12 forms of New Jersey municipal government, which are based not on population, area or traffic, but on the organization of the governing body. A village is governed by a board of trustees and a village president.

Today, with its manager, mayor and council, Ridgewood is something that rolls off the tongue less easily.

Themed races highlight benefits of running as a group

Running a race is often a solitary pursuit. But that has been changing, thanks to the popularity of themed races that sometimes feature obstacles. Groups of friends are making them into cardiovascular social events.

“It definitely seems to be the trend,” said Tim Styler of the Ridgewood Running Co. “It’s always been a semi-social activity but all those Tough Mudder-type of races brought about a new type of runner.”

Tough Mudder (a hardcore race through mud and over walls), Spartan Race (“the global leader in obstacle racing,” according to its website) and Rebel Race (a military-style weekend race with barricade-climbing, mud-crawling, rope-swinging and fire-jumping) is not your typical weekend warrior run. Just ask River Vale resident Julie Miller.

“Mud runs are the most fun,” said Miller, who likes to race with a group of 30-something friends. “You’re not really doing it for speed,” she said. “So you do it as a group activity and have a fun weekend.” A lot of the mud runs have parties afterwards with a band and beer, Miller said.

Lunch charges confuse Ridgewood parents

The Ridgewood News

Confusion over the Ridgewood school district’s lunch payment system has left some parents frustrated in recent weeks.

The automated lunch payment system is sending repeated emails to Ridgewood High School (RHS) parents this summer, stating they have an outstanding balance for food their children purchased in school. Some parents are disputing those bills.

In response, Ridgewood school administrators said the district’s “help desk” is addressing the parents’ concerns, and next year, various improvements will be put into place.

Meanwhile, some confusion persists. RHS parent Helane Muhlstock said she has received “definitely more than five” emails from the school saying that she owes a negative figure of “-$11.50.” RHS parents Sharon Simoncini and Genny Allard received several emails saying they owed “-$2.40.”

Report: Booker collected annual payouts from former law firm while in office

Newark Mayor Cory Booker reportedly pocketed an unknown amount of annual payments from his former law practice while the firm collected millions of dollars from independent authorities located within Brick City, according to published reports.

The NY Post reported over the weekend that the front-runner in New Jersey’s U.S. Senate election received an undisclosed amount of money from the Trenk DiPasquale law firm from 2007 to 2011. During that time, the firm collected more than $2 million in fees from independent authorities located within Newark, according to the report.

Senate candidates make last-minute pitches in N.J.

The six candidates for U.S. Senate in New Jersey spent the last few days crisscrossing the state pleading for voters to head to the polls Tuesday in what is expected to be a low-turnout special primary election.

Reader asks Why is Valley given years to fight for over expansion?

Why is Valley given years to fight for over expansion? Can no one in this town grow a set and just say NO?

Fact: Valley, has plenty of room to expand they just have not been told to do so at their Paramus location. Happens to be a much better option! Not next to a school, ruining generations of classes there. Wake up Planning Board and Council!

Main Fact: Ridgewood as a whole will suffer? Valley pays no taxes, every taxpayer in town will now have to pay for the extra services (more police, more fireman) needed to support this over expansion. Wake up everyone in Ridgewood…Valley should expand in Paramus, sure you can update within your Ridgewood address. Please GO AWAY VALLEY. I said Please!
