Mahwah NJ, Mahwah Environmental Commission and its members were apprised over the weekend by Derek Michalski of the situation in USR and ongoing concerns regarding alleged arsenic and lead pollution. Also they were provided with new aerial surveillance video documenting that Toll Brothers is using underground and above ground pumps to dewater “colloidal clay” directly into Pleasant Brook. After full year of Stop Work Order one might think the situation would get better not worse. However USR aquifer is still being destroyed in front of our eyes and the NJ residents who live along the path of the Pleasant Brook are clearly at risk. According to a local physician “the unfortunate reality is that we won’t see real evidence of arsenic issues for 20 years. The time is now to insure the health of those at risk. If this is not done, it is truly a failure of government to perform its primary role in society”.

Wyckoff NJ, New Jersey has ranked as the highest outbound state since 2012. In other words, our state had the highest percentage of people moving out versus moving in compared to the other 49 states.
Even as the economy is doing better nationally, our state is lagging behind – and people are taking notice.
An annual survey by a national moving company, which recently released its 42nd report, found that twice as many people left our state than came last year. The embarrassing streak should be a cause for concern, because the people who are leaving can afford to, and the people who are staying are paying the price.

Wyckoff NJ, Democratic Members of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus Representatives Josh Gottheimer, Thomas Suozzi, Vincente Gonzalez, Anthony Brindisi, Dean Phillips, Max Rose, and Abigail Spanberger met at the White House to sit down with President Trump in the Situation Room regarding the shutdown. Entering the meeting, the Members released the following statement:
“Over the last weeks, we have been listening to our constituents and speaking with our fellow Members of Congress — in both parties and in both chambers. There is strong agreement across the aisle and around the country: We must reopen the government. Our security, safety, and economy have been compromised, and millions of families are suffering.
“There is also strong agreement that if we reopen the government, the possibility exists to work together and find common ground to tackle some of our country’s toughest problems and fix them. But that conversation can only begin in earnest once the government is reopened. We accepted the White House’s invitation to meet today to convey that message.”
Ridgewood NJ, Over the last several months, we’ve received reports that some people have been receiving somewhat alarming emails claiming to represent Instagram. By somewhat alarming, we mean these emails indicated that the person’s account made copyright violations, which would result in its permanent deletion in 12 or 24 hours. As it turns out, these emails were most certainly not from Instagram. No, they were phishing attempts.
According to the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC pronounced NJ Kick), “phishing” is a form of social engineering in which a threat actor attempts to trick victims into visiting a malicious site and disclosing sensitive information such as account login credentials, financial information, personally identifiable information, or opening a malicious attachment that installs malware onto their system. Phishing attacks can be conducted through email, social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, SMS text messages, or over the phone.
Now, there are all types of phishing strategies, which sport clever monikers such as spear-phishing, whaling, smishing, vishing, etc. that target different victims from banks, businesses and individuals to law enforcement agencies.
What you need to know is that you should never click on links or open attachments delivered with unexpected and unsolicited emails, social media messages or text messages. If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t. Forward any suspicious emails to the company or person it’s claiming to be from in order to verify its authenticity or simply delete the message if you are certain it’s bogus. The addresses used in the fraudulent emails were clearly not from Instagram, but at a glance, some can were deceiving.

The Westwood Police Department would like to make the community aware of some recent car burglaries and stolen vehicles from around the Pascack Valley. It appears that there is a group targeting this area for higher end car thefts and also committing vehicle burglaries while they are here.
In order to help prevent being a victim, We make the following recommendations to our residents: 1. Stay vigilant 2. Report suspicious activity 3. Lock your car 4. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle 5. Do not leave your key fob inside your car
