“Do you think that the Village Council will ever show proof of only clean dirt, rocks, junk being dumped at that site? The new apartments are over old car body shops, repair shops, and a gasoline station. This includes the ENTIRE area being used for it’s filthy, contaminated dirt. They have already shown that they don’t care enough about children to put a crushed coconut field in at the high school instead of the cheaper–and much more dangerous/contaminated as many studies show–crushed tire.”

Reader says “Last kid graduates RHS and the family decides to move to Florida or another lower tax state. Are they greedy, or being financially prudent? “

for sale Ridgewood_Real_Estate_theRodgewopodblog

” Man/woman works in NYC. They move to Ridgewood for the ‘whole package’ (let’s leave the school rank out of it for a sec). They have 5 kids, all go to RPS schools K-12. Worker contributes to 401k, 403b, SEP IRA, whatever, and has a possible cash flow from these investments of 5k/month. Last kid graduates RHS and the family decides to move to Florida or another lower tax state. Are they greedy, or being financially prudent? Same goes for government employees. It’s just a desirable financial move. NJ pols (R & D alike) have screwed over the system to fix budgets, cronyism, over-spending, and going on a fiscal bender for decades. I lived here when there was no income tax (thank you Gov Byrne) and the sales tax was 3%. The pension system is broken and the culprits have since split the scene: Byrne, Kean, Florio, Whitman, DiFrancesco, Mc Greevy, Codey, Corzine, Christie. Now, we’re stuck with Murphy who believes that he can tax us out of the problems. With a democrat senate and assembly, it’s his baby now and can ram through as many tax bills as he wants. We have the prerogative to leave. “

Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey State Children’s Chorus (NJSCC) presents “Dance and Sing Around the World ” at 4 pm on Sunday, June 9 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 155 Linwood Ave., Ridgewood. Admission is $10/under 18 admitted free. Tickets are on sale at www.njstatechildrenschorus.orgor may be purchased at the door.

The concert will feature a selection of folk songs from the United States, Japan, and Africa as well as several classical pieces representing the great music of Europe.  From America, the children will sing the perennial favorites “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain,” “Skip to My Lou,” “Old Joe Clark,” and the beautiful “Shenandoah.”  Africa is represented by the traditional Swahili proverbs “Bora Maisha” (Life is the Best Gift), and “Ghana Alleluia,” a mixture of the traditional and Christian influences of the Ewe people.  The children will visit Asia with “Sakura,” a folk song about cherry blossoms sung in the original Japanese.  A visit to Europe finds the choirs singing the “Evening Prayer” (Abendsegen) from Englebert Humperdinck’s 19th century fairy-tale opera, “Hansel and Gretel,” based on the folk tale published by the Brothers Grimm.  To complete the European experience, Artistic Director and Conductor James Kennerley has arranged one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most famous chorales, “Jesu Bleibet Meine Freude,” perhaps best known as “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”

” Anyone who had $275k to purchase and was willing to shell out over $10k in taxes a year could have had this house. It’s been for sale for over a decade until a sheriff’s sale. Why didn’t the BCHS step in before it was falling apart? If they care about the historic homes, they need to be proactive rather than reactive and fight before the new, legal owner(s) buys one of these properties. “
