Cinnaminson NJ, 70-year old Air Force veteran, Cinnaminson, NJ resident Jim Alturo – who spent 40 years working in Center City Philadelphia – started the “Jim’s Cigarette Butt Challenge” to raise funds for the American Lung Association, clean up the streets in South Jersey and challenge others in the Greater Philadelphia area and the nation to do the same. Teterboro NJ, the Bergen County Animal shelter opened in 1979, the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center (BCAS) is responsible for Animal Control and related services for 49 towns in Bergen and Hudson Counties. Located at 100 United Lane in Teterboro, NJ, BCAS has an active network of Rescues, Volunteers, Kitten Foster Families, and Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) colonies to support the employees and animals in our care. The Shelter earned its No-Kill designation under the guidelines of the Asilmar Accords in 2015.

Providence RI, Citizens bank has opened its annual Small Business Community Champion Award Contest, which will again recognize the positive contributions small businesses make within their communities. Now in its seventh year, the contest will award $10,000 each to 30 small businesses across Citizens’ footprint, including 10 minority-owned and 10 women-owned businesses. This year, for the first time, Citizens will also set aside five of its 30 awards exclusively for veteran-owned businesses along with five other qualifying businesses.
