Bergen County Board of Elections Says the County is Ready for the November Elections

I’ve seen so much misinformation on social media about Mail In Ballots, Provisional Ballots and the November Election. I wanted to clear some things up. I’m not interested in arguing about whether the Governor’s actions were right or wrong (if you know me, you know where I stand). I have a job to do as the Chairwoman of the Bergen County Board of Elections, so I must follow the Governor’s orders.
Bergen County certified the July 7th Primary on time, July 24th. While this might not seem like a big deal, it is. We received more ballots than any other county in the state – close to 150,000 MIB and Provisionals. Our previous record was 70,000 in 2018 (think Sheriff’s race/second ballot sent to MIB voters). Bergen was held up as a model to the other counties in the state. Seven out of 21 counties – a third of the state!! – could NOT certify on time. ALL with much smaller numbers than Bergen.

Don’t ignore the dangers of a forklift at work

Forklifts are some of the largest, most dangerous equipment on any worksite. The massive machines require respect, but even more so, people always need to follow policy, procedure, and training when handling them.

A healthy respect and following the rules is only one layer of safety when it comes to forklifts. If little to no safety protocols are in place, accidents become negligence on the part of the employer. In the event of one, contacting an attorney to advocate on your behalf is the best path to take.

Ramsey NJ,  Frank Pallotta, Republican Congressional candidate in New Jersey’s 5th District released the following statement regarding the Historic Peace Agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates:

“Thank you to President Trump for helping to broker this historic deal. This is a great day for the security of Israel and overall peace in the Middle East,” said Pallotta.

“I look forward to so-called bipartisan Josh Gottheimer’s statement actually giving the President credit for this incredible advancement and his strong leadership, but we understand he may need to clear it with Nancy Pelosi first,” he continued.

Bergenfield NJ, a Bergen County, New Jersey, man today admitted using Facebook and other online web forums to cyberstalk victims, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Rino Diamante, 25, of Bergenfield, New Jersey, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge William J. Martini to an information charging him with one count of cyberstalking.

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco is calling on PSE&G to reimburse the cost of spoiled food, medication, and perishable commercial merchandise for all New Jersey residents and businesses who lost power for more than 48 consecutive hours due to Tropical Storm Isaias. County Executive Tedesco is also calling on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to adopt legislation that requires utility companies to make this standard practice, putting the priorities of New Jersey residents and businesses first.

COVID-19 Hits Bergen County Budget With Massive Spending and Tax Hike

Hackensack NJ, , Bergen County’s coronavirus outbreak has led to a  31% increase in spending in the county’s 2020 budget, which comes with a 4% tax hike .The county plans to shell out $741,887,685 this year, a $177.7 million increase from last year’s total appropriations. Fortunately most of that amount or $172.7 million is being reimbursed by the federal government, largely with CARES Act money.

Bergen County Women and One Other Charged in a Multi-year $1 million Embezzlement Scheme

Lyndhurst NJ, Two New Jersey residents were charged for their participation in a multi-year $1 million embezzlement scheme, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced today.

Ruby Baroni, 53, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and Rolando Veloso, 41, of Haskell, New Jersey, were each charged by a criminal complaint unsealed today in Newark federal court with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. They made their initial appearances today by videoconference before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward S. Kiel.

East Rutherford NJ, After nearly two decades of construction delays and billions pumped in from New Jersey tax payers , New Jersey’s mega-mall American Dream partially opened last October. Six months later, the three-million-square-foot venue was forced to close its doors because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, even as the state continues its gradual reopening, there is still no reopening date for the $5 billion mall. As NJ.com reported, owner Triple Five Group has missed three consecutive mortgage payments and retail tenants are getting out of their leases at the space. On top of that, contractors and subcontractors have filed over $13 million in construction liens for unpaid work.
