“As I stated yesterday in my press conference ” we know the COVID-19 virus will happen in New Jersey and if it should happen in Bergen County we will be prepared and ready” now that a presumed positive test result has occurred here in Bergen County I have been in contact with Mayor Sokolich and have offered the full support of county government. Our Bergen County Health Officer has been in contact with the local health officer offering any assistance they made need. I have been in contact with the Governor Phil Murphy’s office and will continue to do so. As more information is gathered we will work with our local municipal partners to get it out to the public. Again, Bergen County, through its Office of Emergency Management, Health Department and other county agencies, are prepared and are taking all appropriate action to address the situation despite the very low risk COVID-19 poses to the general public.

Dumont NJ, according to the Dumont Police Department on Tuesday at approximately 11:40am an indecent exposure occurred in our CVS parking lot located at 50 West Madison Avenue. Suspect vehicle is described as a newer model White Audi driven by a white male in his mid to late 20’s wearing a beige trench coat.
Suspect played loud music to get the attention of two High School females at which time he exposed himself.

Ridgewood NJ, The 2020 race for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District of New Jersey is shaping up to be a very competitive campaign in the 2020 election. The Ridgewood Blog has obtained a poll commissioned by Assemblyman Bob Auth showing the deep vulnerability of incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer. Republican candidate John McCann, the 2018 Republican nominee, is currently leading Gottheimer in the race 40.4% to 38.9%. McCann is seeking a rematch this year setting up a very competitive race in the 5th Congressional district if he selected as the Republican nominee.
Assemblyman Auth briefly entered the Republican contest for the 5th district seat but decided against a candidacy this year citing the need for Republican Party unity and the challenges of organizing a district wide campaign in less than 200 days.

Trenton NJ. The Murphy Administration today announced a roadmap for spending $60 million in Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) funding to advance affordable housing across the state. The funding, which was diverted in previous years, was restored as part of Governor Murphy’s FY2020 budget and is now available for pre-applications. Ridgewood NJ, There’s a story that’s being largely ignored by everyone, and it’s that Democrat party affiliation has tanked in recent months, after almost always being positive. In October, Democrats had an +8% advantage over Republicans in terms of which party Americans identify as (calculated simply as % Democrat minus % Republican = net +8 for Democrats), according to Gallup. This is a monthly tracking poll, and during the last three presidential elections, consisting of 45 total months of data, the Democrats have only had a negative rating versus the Republicans in 2 of those months, and even then they were just slightly negative, and it was early on in the campaigns, in September and October. Other than that, the Dems have been positive the whole time, and usually by a comfortable margin. In 2008, the Democrats were +14 at this point in the election cycle, and would peak at +18. Today they are -3, down from +8 in October, to +2 in November, to -2 in December and January. (The grey line on the graph clearly shows the Dems consistently under-performing the last three election cycles). Meanwhile, Trump’s approval has popped to 49% according to Gallup. It’s almost like the more the country sees what the Democrats actually are, instead of just thinking of them in hypothetical terms, the more the country is rejecting them. And the more Trump is secondary news to the Democrats’ dysfunction and extremism, and the more the country does well under him and all those apocalyptic predictions about his presidency prove to be the hyperbole they were, the more Trump becomes popular.

Mahwah NJ, 5th District Congressional candidate Frank Pallotta asked his fellow GOP candidates to make a united stand with him to cut property taxes. In a letter to congressional candidates John McCann, Mike Ghassali, Jim Baldini, Jon Dalrymple, and Hector Castillo, Pallotta pointed out that he was the only Republican candidate with a plan to address the problem of rising property taxes in New Jersey.
Property taxes have been a major theme of the 5th District incumbent – Democrat Congressman Josh Gottheimer – who has proposed undoing the Trump tax cuts as a way to address New Jersey’s highest-in-the-nation property taxes. Pallotta has promised to “tackle the issues Gottheimer has only talked about.”
