Ridgewood NJ,  As an additional measure to protect customers and employees from the spread of COVID-19, NJ TRANSIT is introducing vending machines on a pilot basis to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes and disposable gloves at Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal.  The machines will also be installed at other select stations over the coming weeks.

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Paving: Attached is a notice of milling and paving in the Borough of Glen Rock. Any resident in the area of Byrd school may park their vehicle in the Main Line commuter parking lot. Any other affected streets may park on a surrounding street. While you will be able to get your vehicles out of your street during milling, once paving starts on your street, it will be several hours before you will be permitted to drive on the new asphalt.

New Jersey Transit Police effect arrest for aggravated assault against a NJ TRANSIT train conductor

Secaucus NJ, During the early morning hours of 08/19/20, NJTPD officers responded to a report of a conductor assaulted at Secaucus Junction Station. The officers apprehended a subject who allegedly struck a conductor in the face with a closed fist. This subject now faces multiple charges including Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.

Turnpike, Parkway Sees Drop in Traffic But Toll Hikes Still Going Forward

Paramus NJ, The NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway have seen a decrease in traffic and toll revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the NJ Turnpike Authority, traffic on the Turnpike was down 30% through June and traffic on the Parkway was down 26%. Revenue for both highways dropped by 27%, but the agency has said that they are $53 million under budget this year so far. The NJ Turnpike Authority recently approved toll hikes and massive highway widening projects for both the NJ Turnpike and GS Parkway that will cause environmental damage and increase climate impacts.

Port Authority of New York and Jersey Seeks $3 Billion Federal Bailout

Fort Lee NJ, Port Authority of New York and Jersey Chairman Kevin O’Toole and Executive Director Rick Cotton called on the federal government to provide the Port Authority with $3 billion in direct financial assistance to avoid the devastating impact of sharp revenue losses to the agency’s critically important capital construction projects. The agency has projected revenue losses of $3 billion over 24 months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal aid will protect the agency’s capital plan – and by doing so, to help drive the region’s and the nation’s economic recovery.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Posts Single Worst Quarter on Record

Fort Lee NJ, Today the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey released its six-month financial results which revealed an approximately $777 million decline in revenues through June 30, 2020 as compared to the agency’s budget, with additional losses against 2020 Budget expected through the balance of the year. Since the full force of the Covid-19 crisis started in March, the agency’s revenue loss has averaged $240 million per month as compared to budget. Based on these results, together with the forward-looking forecasts, the Port Authority continues to project a $3 billion loss in revenues for the 24-month period ending March 2022.

New Jersey Transit Police is Seeking the Public’s Assistance with Identifying a Potential Sexual Predator

Newark NJ, New Jersey Transit Police is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a male sought in connection to an alleged Criminal Sexual Contact incident. The individual is seen on surveillance footage inappropriately touching the victim outside of Newark Penn Station on 6/28/20. The NJTPD Detective Bureau is looking to positively identify the actor prior to formal questioning. The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20’s to early 30’s wearing camouflage shorts with drawstrings, a black sleeveless shirt and black sneakers. West Trenton NJ, Independence Day 2020 has arrived, and although we will be celebrating differently this year by wearing face coverings and social distancing, we expect our roadways to experience increased traffic as a result of motorists traveling to New Jersey’s beaches, state parks, lakes and other tourists attractions as they always do during this holiday weekend. We know our citizens have done a great job flattening the curve through social distancing, and now we are asking motorists to help us flatten the crash curve by driving defensively, obeying speed limits, and by not getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

Dover NJ,  A former finance officer for a labor union today admitted stealing $117,000 from his union’s operating accounts, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Angel L. Garcia, 57, of Tampa, Florida, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler to an information charging him with one count of embezzling from the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union Local 1614, in Sussex County, New Jersey.

Ridgewood NJ,  As part of its continued recovery efforts, NJ TRANSIT has released guidelines detailing the critical steps being taken to protect customers and employees during the reopening of New Jersey and the region, as we prepare for customers to return to the transit system. These guidelines are consistent with “The Road Back”, New Jersey’s roadmap for restoring economic health through public health.

In addition to NJ TRANSIT taking any and all measures to continue to make the system as safe and possible, the agency is reinforcing a “shared responsibility” approach that relies on customers and employers doing their part as well.
