U.S. Coast Guard : How the Pandemic Affected Boating

ANNAPOLIS MD, the U.S. Coast Guard recently released the 2020 Recreational Boating Statistics, and reports of accidents, fatalities and injuries were significantly up over the prior year. While still under review, the Coast Guard believes that the primary driving factor for the significant increase in deaths was the significant increase in boating activity. The nonprofit BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water looks at some select data points in the report and offers some lessons for the future, long after America has put the pandemic in the rearview mirror.

NJ State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance with Identifying Burglary Suspects at Sandy Island Gun Club

Barnegat Bay  NJ, the New Jersey State Police is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying three men who allegedly burglarized a hunting club located on a remote island in the Barnegat Bay off Harvey Cedars, Ocean County.
On June 4, the men were captured on video surveillance entering the property of the Sandy Island Gun Club. The men broke a second story window to gain entry inside, caused additional damage to the property and stole several items.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Leonardo Arcos at [email protected] or the Tuckerton Station Detective Bureau at 609-296-3132. Anonymous tips are welcome.

NJ State Troopers and University Hospital Medical Personnel Rescue Stranded Jet-Skiers in Sea Isle

Sea Isle NJ , on Friday, June 25th, two troopers from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit and three medical staff members from University Hospital rescued two jet-skiers who were stranded in a muddy, marshy area in Sea Isle, N.J.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., troopers from the Marine Services Bureau were dispatched to the report of two stranded jet-skiers in a marsh in Sea Isle. Troopers from the Marine Bureau were unable to get to the stranded jet-skiers due to the receeding tide, so they requested assistance from the Aviation Unit.

“We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat “: 800 Pound 12 foot Great White Spotted off Atlantic City

Atlantic City NJ, in March researchers tagged a great white shark caught off the Outer Banks . The shark is nearly 12 feet long and weighed in at a whopping 883 pounds.

Given the name Freya, the Great White put on quite a show before she was tagged.

Manasquan NJ, an off-duty New Jersey State Trooper and a good samaritan saved two distressed kayakers who fell overboard in the Glimmer Class Creek in Manasquan, Monmouth County.
On Sunday, June 13, Sergeant First Class Erin Smith was traveling over the Glimmer Glass Drawbridge when she noticed an overturned kayak, two orange life vests floating, and two women struggling in the water. She immediately exited her vehicle, ran towards the bridge and called to the struggling women to ask if they needed assistance.
