Maywood NJ, on Monday at approximately 11:50am City of Hackensack Deputy 2 and Rescue 1 responded with mutual aid to Maywood at the intersection of Maywood Ave and Howcroft Road on reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arrival they found two car motor vehicle accident with one vehicle operator entrapped and injured. Maywood Fire Company Engine stretched and charged a hose-line as Rescue 1 used Holmatro cutter and spreader to remove drivers side door. HUMC BLS stabilized the patient and Rescue 1 assisted with removing the driver from the vehicle and packaging the patient for transport to HUMC.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is assisting the Maywood and Hackensack Police Departments in an investigation into the details of the death of 39-year-old Maywood Police Sergeant Jason Y. Liaban, who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound just after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023. The death is not suspected to involve criminal activity, but the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated.
