The most recent numbers in RIDGEWOOD are as follows:
Positive: 148
Pending: 1
Negative: 148
Deaths: 4
**We are working on providing the numbers on residents who have recovered. We will share that information once we have it.**
Please continue to do your part in working together to contain and prevent the spread of the virus by adhering to proper social distancing practices, washing hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, and staying home if you feel sick. Be well, stay safe, and encourage others to do the same.

Car Takes Out Fencing at Ridgewood School Ball Field

Ridgewood NJ, fortunately no injuries were reported after a Ford SUV crashed front first through a chain link fence and rolled down an embankment before coming to a stop on a school baseball field in Ridgewood early Sunday afternoon, 04/05. Damage to the vehicle was light; the fence was destroyed. Fortunately, the mishap occurred several hundred feet away from a small group of children who were playing on the school grounds. Ridgewood Police Patrol Officer Colin Donnelly assisted the SUV’s adult female driver in getting her vehicle off the field and back into a nearby parking lot.

British American Tobacco Announces Potential vaccine for COVID-19 using new, fast-growing tobacco plant technology

Ridgewood NJ, BAT’s US bio-tech subsidiary, Kentucky BioProcessing (KBP), is developing a potential vaccine for COVID-19 and is now in pre-clinical testing. If testing goes well, BAT is hopeful that, with the right partners and support from government agencies, between 1 and 3 million doses of the vaccine could be manufactured per week, beginning in June.

While KBP remains a commercial operation, the intention is that its work around the COVID-19 vaccine project will be carried out on a not for profit basis.

Hackensack Meridian Health Recruiting Recovering COVID-19 Patients

Hackensack NJ, As of late last night, HMH has been approved by the FDA to recruit recovered and recovering COVID-19 patients to assess their blood and test it for antibodies in response to the virus. These antibodies may help other patients who are infected with COVID-19. Patients with promising antibodies will be asked to come back to donate an additional blood sample which may be helpful for sick COVID-19 patients. This convalescent plasma therapy is still pending approval from the FDA which we hope to receive soon.

Ridgewood NJ, a recent article on NJ Insider attempting to quell the push to get the economy going promoting the false dichotomy that some how “Ranking Economic Benefits Over Human Life is Offensive ” . Life  is a functioning economy end of story . Only someone who lives at the charity of others would  not understand this.

Funny but the politicians in Trenton see fit to simultaneously raise the fuel tax and tolls on the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway  so apparently “Ranking Economic Benefits Over Human Life ” is ok for them . So if we can raise taxes , we can go back to work.

Ridgewood Public Library’s 3D printer making face shields to donate to Valley Hospital

Ridgewood NJ, Charles  at the Ridgewood Public Library put the Library’s 3D printer to work this week making face shields to donate to Valley Hospital’s Drop Off in response to a request for donations of personal protective equipment (PPE). These shields are crucial for medical workers in protecting the facial area and associated mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) from splashes, sprays, and spatter of body fluids.

Social Security Beneficiaries will Automatically Get Economic Impact Payments

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Social Security Administration , the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

No Serious Injuries Reported following the late Saturday morning Crash in Twp of Washington NJ

Twp of Washington NJ, amazingly there were no serious injuries  reported following the late Saturday morning, 04/04, crash of a Jeep SUV into a utility pole at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Washington Avenue, Washington Township. Traffic was detoured around the crash site for hours to allow utility crews safe access to the work zone. Washington Township Police, Washington Township Fire Department, and Washington Township EMS responded to the incident scene. Westwood Police provided traffic control assistance.
