Margot Jerkovich, soprano of Ridgewood, NJ is this year’s winner of the Marjorie Vandervoort Vocal Award of $1200.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police Department were summoned to Ridgewood High School late Friday morning when a bomb threat at Ridgewood high school phoned into central dispatch. Ridgewood police assisted by numerous agencies searched the interior and exterior of the school and confirmed this was a false threat. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau assisted by the Bergen county prosecutors office is investigating the call. There is currently no threat to the students.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association celebrated two classes of Distinguished Alumni on March 23, 2022 at Park West Tavern Loft in Ridgewood. Trenton NJ, Senator Joe Pennacchio and Senator Michael Testa have introduced legislation reaffirming parental rights and amending current law to prevent schools from teaching some concepts related to critical race theory (CRT) and various controversial topics to students younger than high school age.

Montville Township NJ, Dr. Thomas A. Gorman ( Superintendent of Ridgewood Public Schools ) was appointed Superintendent of the Montville Township Public Schools on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. The resolution of Dr. Gorman’s appointment was unanimously passed by the Montville Township Board of Education at the regularly scheduled meeting.
Ridgewood NJ, a tentative version of the 2022-2023 Ridgewood School Budget was presented, beginning with a review of the district’s mission and vision. The budget supports curriculum revisions and instructional resources that must be implemented in September 2022 in the following areas: Visual and Performing Arts, World Languages, Social Studies, and Career Readiness, Life Literacies, and Key Skills. The budget also supports professional development aligned to the goals of the strategic plan and innovative academic programming, including the integration of new instructional resources, the expansion of interdisciplinary programs, and the introduction of new courses. The budget provides the necessary staff and resources to support the academic program, addresses the responsible maintenance of our buildings and grounds, and stays within the guidelines of the New Jersey Statutory State caps. Anticipated budget challenges for the upcoming school year include staffing, transportation, inflation, and supply chain issues. Future personnel needs, summer capital projects, and future maintenance and facility needs were shared.
Red Bank NJ, Common Sense Club today announced that Senator Mike Testa (R-LD1) will be the prime Senate sponsor of the “Parental Bill of Rights”, soon to be introduced in the New Jersey legislature. Inspired by other states who have successfully introduced parental rights bills, this legislation will reassert the preeminence of the family and minimize the involvement of the government in our everyday decisions.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Crew team participated in the annual Haddon Hammer held in person at Haddon Township High School. The event attracted 20 clubs. Ridgewood Crew had 50 entries, out of 299 total, second only to Moorestown High School/ Rowing Club.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Schools Superintendent Thomas A. Gorman confirmed at Monday night Board of Education meeting that the mask mandate for schools in New Jersey expired yesterday, and the Ridgewood Public Schools pivoted to a mask optional policy. The feedback from the schools was very positive, and approximately 10-20% of students and staff continued to wear masks. Dr. Gorman thanked the faculty and staff for all they did over the past two years to make the virtual, hybrid, and in-person learning environments successful. He also thanked the students and parents for working with the district during this challenging time. All schools will continue to be vigilant in maintaining a healthy environment. The New Jersey COVID-19 Activity Level Index report has our region at the low (green) level, and the vaccination rate for our children is high. As the district moves through this new phase, the school community will continue to work together for the good of the students.
