Teaneck NJ, Teaneck residents faced a gas leak emergency on Sunday night, leading to evacuations in the cold before service was restored, as confirmed by the police.
Teaneck NJ, Teaneck police reported that multiple units responded to an incident at a Tyron Avenue residence at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, where four adults were discovered to have been assaulted and restrained. According to a police release, earlier that day, three men had entered the residence through a back door, with two of them carrying firearms. The assailants proceeded to assault and bind the victims before making off with personal belongings. The authorities have not disclosed the specific items stolen or their value. The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided on-site treatment for the victims’ minor injuries. The Teaneck Police Department, along with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, is actively investigating the incident and pursuing all available leads. Teaneck NJ, on Friday, the U.S. Department of Education confirmed the initiation of a federal civil rights investigation into Teaneck schools, making it the third educational institution in New Jersey to undergo such scrutiny since the Hamas attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Rutgers University was added to the list on Dec. 12, and the Newark School District on Dec. 21. Nationwide, 44 institutions, including Brown University in Rhode Island most recently on Tuesday, are currently under investigation since the mentioned attacks. Teaneck School District was included on Jan. 5 in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights list for open Title VI Shared Ancestry Investigations, encompassing both institutions of higher education and K-12 schools. The investigation stems from the controversy surrounding a high school student walkout in support of Palestine on Nov. 29, 2023, and subsequent handling by School Superintendent Andre Spencer and the Board of Education’s management of public speakers addressing the topic at its meetings.
