Ridgewood Public Schools will have a delayed opening today as well as the Village Hall and The Stable and will have a 9:30 a.m delayed opening .
While the Blizzard came in a bit short of the 18-24 inches of snow totals expected, snow rian and sleet and dangerous winds led to white out conditions.
The Ridgewood Police reported that heavy wet snow took down some trees, taking powers lines with them. Racetrack road was closed between route 17 and northern Parkway for a transformer on fire in the roadway. Power outages were reported in the area. Public service has been notified.
Heights and Phelps was closed while a tree was removed .
Ridgewood Fire department reminds you that If you should lost power during the storm and needed to use a portable generator, please use it with care and according to the instructions for that device.
Heard a great Shoveling tip yesterday, spray PAM on the shovel blade before shoveling.The Snow slides right off and doesn’t stick.

Paris (AFP) – Parents, take courage. If you survive the sleep deprivation, toddler tantrums and teenage angst, you may be rewarded with a longer life than your childless peers, researchers said Tuesday.
Fathers gained more in life expectancy than mothers, a team wrote in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health — and particularly in older age.
“By the age of 60, the difference in life expectancy… may be as much as two years” between people with, and those without, children, they concluded.
Researchers tracked the lifespan of men and women born between 1911 and 1925 and living in Sweden — more than 1.4 million people in total.
They also gathered data on whether the participants were married and had children.
Men and women with at least one child had “lower death risks” than childless ones, the team concluded.
“At 60 years of age, the difference in life expectancy was two years for men and 1.5 years for women” compared to peers with no kids, the researchers wrote.
By age 80, men who fathered children had a remaining life expectancy of seven years and eight months, compared to seven years for childless men, said the team.
For mothers, life expectancy at 80 was nine years and six months, while for childless women it was eight years and 11 months.
The study merely pointed out a correlation, and cannot conclude that having children is the cause of the life expectancy gains, the researchers admitted.

If you have a fire hydrant near your house, clear the snow around it for emergency access.
Overnight parking permission is suspended until Thursday 3/16/17. There will be no permission granted to park overnight ordinance 249-48.
Snow and ice is to be removed from sidewalks no later than 24 hours after snow has fallen. Failure to do so subjects the property owner to a fine. Ordinance 249-1a.

Ridgewood NJ, PSE&G is preparing for the approaching storm predicted to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the Northeast on Tuesday. Snow and high winds can bring down trees and power lines. We take every storm with the potential for outages seriously, and we have additional personnel and auxiliary equipment ready.
We also have extra personnel to respond as quickly as possible to emergency requests. Both PSE&G’s call centers and appliance service department are prepared to respond to customer “no heat” calls as temperatures remain low during the next several days.

Dear Great Friends at the Ridgewood blog,
A powerful snowstorm is headed our way. A Blizzard Warning is in effect from midnight tonight through midnight Tuesday. 18-24 inches of snow is expected, along with dangerous winds and white out conditions. Stay indoors and do not travel. Due to the impending blizzard, here is what you should know:
GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION
There will no garbage or recycling collection on March 14th and no curbside bulk pickup on March 15th. Simply put out the garbage, recycling or bulk refuse on your next scheduled collection date. On March 16th and March 17th, all garbage must be brought to the end of your driveway (not in the street), for the safety of our Village employees. Backyard collection of garbage will resume on March 20th, weather permitting.
PARKING ON STREETS PROHIBITED TO ALLOW FOR PLOWING
In order to allow the Village crews to clear the streets of snow, residents are prohibited from parking on the streets all day on March 14th. Overnight parking on streets will not be permitted on March 13th, March 14th, and March 15th. Please be aware that there is a protocol for plowing roads, which is as follows: The primary roads into the Village are plowed first, which include the roads into the Village, particularly those by the hospital and the schools. The secondary roads, located off of the main roads, are plowed second. Finally, the tertiary roads, such as cul de sacs and dead ends are plowed. Due to the large amount of snow which will be falling, over a short period of time, the crews may take some time to get to the secondary and tertiary roads.
SNOW REMOVAL
Snow must be removed from all residential sidewalks within 24 hours of it forming. Please do not put the snow into the street, put it back onto your property.
POWER OUTAGES
High winds from the storm may cause power outages. Please stay away from downed wires. If you experience a power outage, please do not call the Police Department unless there is an emergency. Please call PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734.
FIRE HYDRANTS
If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please clear it of accumulating snow. The house you save could be your own!
OTHER INFORMATION
All Village Offices and the Library will be closed on March 14th. The Recycling Center will also be closed. The Police Department, on the second floor of Village Hall, will remain open.
The Zoning Board of Adjustment Meeting scheduled for March 14th has been cancelled.

All Village offices and the Library will be closed on March 14th, due to the impending snow storm. The Police Department, on the 2nd floor of Village Hall, will remain open.

Due to the impending blizzard, there will be no recycling or garbage pickup and the Recycling Center will be closed on March 14th. There will also be no curbside bulk pickup on March 15th. In addition, in order to keep our Village employees safe, all garbage must be taken to the end of your driveway (not in the street) through March 17th. We need to check the village water for mis management amnesia induced spend-Itis.The Library like 85 percent of our road surfaces needs a fresh coat of asphalt and paint.There is a PAC and it I s 1000 yards across from the Library and has plenty of outdoor seating and nostalgic bandshell.Ridgewood Grab your egos and take a reasonable approach for a change.It ‘s a complete non starter to start spending millions and moving staircases with 2 well placed elevators in such a small library.Tutors need to weigh in as they get the free rent and Benefits of an exclusive market at our expense.

Ridgewood NJ, In the business and office districts, snow shall be removed from the sidewalks concurrently with its fall. To assure compliance with this section, more than one clearing may be required to keep the sidewalks as free of snow as is practical. Snowfalls commencing after 6:00 p.m., will be cleared by no later than 9:00 a.m. the following morning, Sundays and holidays included. For snow occurring Monday through Saturday, during business hours, sidewalks shall be cleared to a five-foot minimum width to provide access from the storefront to the curb, between meters, if meters are installed. After 6:00 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays, sidewalks will be completely cleared into the street.
Also remember to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof. It’s the law in New Jersey! Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25 to $75 for each offense, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle. If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, motorists face fines of $200 to $1,000 for each offense. There are approximately 500 fatalities in the United States per year due to icy road conditions.
If you have a fire hydrant in front of your house, help yourself and help your neighbors by keeping it clear of snow. Ridgewood Police and Fire Departments urge resident to clear a path around the hydrant of 3 feet by 3 feet.
Sidewalks – Snow must be removed from all residential sidewalks within 24 hours of the snowfall. This is especially important on school walking routes.
Sanitation – Please remember to bring your garbage to the end of your driveway at the curb when snow & ice are forecast for our area.
Overnight parking will most likely be suspended on Village streets .

Last summer, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in what bettors, financial markets and the London-based media regarded as a colossal upset. Reporters and pundits were quick to blame the polls for the unexpected result. But the polls had been fine, more or less: In the closing days of the Brexit campaign, they’d shown an almost-even race, and Leave’s narrow victory (by a margin just under 4 percentage points) was about as consistent with them as it was with anything else. The failure was not so much with the polls but with the people who were analyzing them.
The U.S. presidential election, as I’ve argued, was something of a similar case. No, the polls didn’t show a toss-up, as they had in Brexit. But the reporting was much more certain of Clinton’s chances than it should have been based on the polls. Much of The New York Times’s coverage, for instance, implied that Clinton’s odds were close to 100 percent. In an article on Oct. 17 — more than three weeks before Election Day — they portrayed the race as being effectively over, the only question being whether Clinton should seek a landslide or instead assist down-ballot Democrats:

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT will operate extra bus service on selected routes to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) on Friday, March 17, to accommodate customers traveling to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. Trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, Newark Light Rail and River Line will also operate regular weekday schedules.
Please note: liquid containers of any kind, open or closed, will not be permitted on any train to and from New York/Hoboken on March 17. Beverages of any kind are prohibited at all times on board buses.
NJ TRANSIT will have Ambassadors will be on hand at Secaucus Junction, Aberdeen/Matawan, Middletown, N.J., and Penn Station New York to assist customers.

Travel Tips
Ticketing: To speed your return, purchase round-trip tickets at the start of your trip from bus operators inbound to New York or at ticket vending machines where available. Bus customers departing Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) are reminded that tickets must be purchased before boarding the bus.
Allow Extra Travel Time: Traffic congestion during the morning period and early to mid-afternoon hours before and after the parade may affect bus travel times to New York City. Customers should plan accordingly.
Plan Ahead: Extra bus service will operate a few minutes ahead of regularly scheduled trips on the routes listed above. Customers should arrive at their bus boarding location 10 minutes earlier than the departure time.
Parking: Customers traveling from Park/Rides at Allwood Road, North Bergen, Willowbrook Mall, Mothers and Wayne/Route 23 Transit Center are advised that parking fees still apply.
IMPORTANT NOTE: No liquids of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will be permitted on any train to and from New York/Hoboken. This policy will be strictly enforced. Beverages of any kind are prohibited at all times on board buses.

The recent flurry of marches, demonstrations and even riots, along with the Democratic Party’s spiteful reaction to the Trump presidency, exposes what modern liberalism has become: a politics shrouded in pathos. Unlike the civil-rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s, when protesters wore their Sunday best and carried themselves with heroic dignity, today’s liberal marches are marked by incoherence and downright lunacy—hats designed to evoke sexual organs, poems that scream in anger yet have no point to make, and an hysterical anti-Americanism.
All this suggests lostness, the end of something rather than the beginning. What is ending?
America, since the ’60s, has lived through what might be called an age of white guilt. We may still be in this age, but the Trump election suggests an exhaustion with the idea of white guilt, and with the drama of culpability, innocence and correctness in which it mires us.
