Ridgewood NJ, Neighbors accuse Healthbarn of violating their lease and changing the concept of Habernickel park for this businesses benefit.

Healthbarn neighbors continue to to voice concerns that Healthbarn has a max of 95 private clients plus their employees. This means an excess of 95 people could be there at one time. Once again the Ridgewood blog wonders how did this actually pass village code when the home is only allowed to hold 50 people in total?

This is a major safety issue that could lead to legal obligations that could fall on the village in an emergency situation.  Are the business’ clients aware of the dangerous situation they are putting their children in?  If a business in town was exceeding the allotted amount of patrons would they be overlooked the same way the major issues at Healthbarn are being over looked?

Early on HealthBarn’s lease was questioned by many residents. The original lease was put up on the web site for all the residents. If there were changes approved after that, to allocate them more space, or to approve them to put up dog feeding station outside their allocated fenced area – all those documents should be part of the records being provided to the residents, just like their programs and their good deeds are being promoted on the village web site as part of their marketing on our expense. The Ridgewood blog has heard that a child was bitten by a dog on the property.

A quick walk in Habernickel Park we noticed that the parking lot lights seem to be moving forward.  It is difficult to understand why lights are being placed in a park that should be closing at dusk like ALL the other parks in town.

The lighting is going to be a huge quality of life disruption for many many neighbors.  Lights were already added to the gate house in several locations to benefit this business and remain on.

  1. The old news is that this is another example of how Arohson undermined the values of our town and our home.

The new news is whether the new council is going to allow these problems to persist and multiply. Why won’t the council simply get out there now and stop the violations?

  2. Neighbors fought lights at the other fields and lost . Those 8 year olds need to play soccer under the lights. Sports first!

This town is rocking from dawn till dusk.

  3. 10:35 – these lights are not in the soccer field. Also watch this – https://youtu.be/a0CQ1rx7MlI?t=2h8m45s — this was promised during the public hearings.

  4. Also the lights used for sporting events go off!!! People should know the facts before they comment!

  5. Funny how if you watch the 5 minute clip tim Cronin announces no new lights on the home or park. 8 months later there are several new spot lights on the home, barn and now 2 commercial poles with footings and very bright lights in a parking lot in a park that closes at dusk and STAY on ALL night.

Also maybe because the speaker said no one uses the lot and very happily did Roberta agree, this is why this business was GIVEN 12 parking spots of her own for her business with no additional charge!

Sorry baseball families you are moved to the street. Just what the neighbors didn’t want…fishy!!!

  6. A dog feeding station in a municipal park that forbids dogs makes no sense. NO DOGS means NO DOGS, including at mealtime.

  7. 2:00pm, and to continue, a park should not have a commercial venture operating in its boundaries.

  8. Dogs are permitted at Habenickel. According to ordinance 212-29, dogs are only prohibited at Citizens Park, Graydon Park, Maple Park, Pleasant Park, Twinney Ponk Park, Van Neste Park and Vets Field. Of course the RWD News had a photo of someone with a dog in Van Neste a week or two ago. And Aronsohn and Hauck had their dogs at Van Neste for some dog parade thing. So the rules are broken all the time. Was the kid badly hurt at Health Barn? Dog bite wounds can be very nasty. Dogs who bite are nasty.

  9. Or maybe dogs that are harassed by an unsupervised camper are defending them selves. This business does not belong there. The owner has broken her lease several times and there has been no consiquences. this business rents the building that is it…she was given parking spots and a large parcel of land. Our village manager is friends with her and has ignored the public about this for too long. Now because of this business a child was bitten by a dog. Wake up! Dogs belong there way more than a for profit private business that allows their private clients to run amuck and now are hurt. I believe at the public meeting a neighbor of habernickel said it will only be a short amount of time before an accident occurs…well it has been 4 months. Bring this park back to the way it should be. A neighborhood park enjoyed by many!!! Not another commercial area shoved down our throats by the queen bee for her friends

  10. 4:30pm, you are correct that the dogs are permitted at Habernickel – but watch this how Paul, Roberta, Albert everyone laughed at a neighbor in front of over 100 residents and told her that she was breaking the law by walking her dog in that park. Roberta flip-flops more than GW Bush. When the neighbor complaint that permitting kids in the passive area will affect her dog walking, they laughed at her because that suited them at that time to silence her. When HealthBarn wanted to install a dog feeding station for their marketing, Roberta allowed her, and they responded to a resident that “read the code, dogs are allowed”.

  11. Here is a fact for you:

We should sell the lot to a developer. Meet our low income housing obligation. Save the nice condos for the downtown.

  12. 5:49 and did you catch it that Gwenn berated the citizen for even moving to that neighborhood? Really. Gwenn was the lowest of the low.

  13. Wow is that mean girl Gwen bullying again. Maybe if that council did not try to sneak this business into the park realtors would have had to disclose to new buyers that a major business would be moving into their neighborhood. Apparently Gwen knew about this for a very long time but to assume others did is just another DUMB girl, because they kept it a secret how could the speaker possibly have known. Oh Gwen…do the math!! What exactly are her anger issues or did she just forget her meds that night

  14. Wake up Ridgewood..it’s like a zombie movie of adults undercutting other adults as bloodsport.Kids must think the whole towns flipped…time for leadership and an attempt at cooperation..might fail a few times but time for a change in both leadership regime, how we operate and the approach to each other..if people complain endlessly let’s move on..there’s real work to do..hell with health barn issues…that’s mid to last on list of key decisions..

  15. Towns going to the dogs…

  16. 10:19 pm keep praying.

  17. We have a new leadership team.lets let them lead.we trusted them with our landslide votes. If they need a few wins to gather some fall into 2017 momentum, lets get out of their way.

I trust them enough to give them a wide berth until proven
otherwise.Critical policy issues, ie Valley, etc we will see them coming from a mile away.lets let them settle in and get out of their way.

  18. Dogs don’t Vote,except with their bite.
