ROBBINSVILLE — Don’t even think about tailgating at any of the 23 high school football sectional finals that will be played this weekend around New Jersey.

The New Jersey State Interstate Athletic Association issued a ban on parking lot festivities at the four sites hosting championship games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In a statement issued Monday reminding fans that its events are drug and alcohol free, the governing body for high school sports in the state also said, “tailgating is strictly prohibited.”

“When you attend an NFL or Big Ten football game, for example, the entire environment is dedicated to fan entertainment,” NJSIAA Executive Director Steve Timko said in a statement. “But high school sports are different — even a state championship football game contested at Met Life Stadium is an extension of the classroom. And you don’t allow alcohol, drugs or tailgating at school.”

Readers say Judge a person by the company they keep

Paul Aronsohn

Judge a person by the company they keep. Aronsohn and the League of Women’s Voters President Anne Burton Walsh were hanging out together that day. Anne Burton Walsh…..not impressed with your choice of companion. Not at all.

Aronsohn is going to run for something else, which of course will give all of us the opportunity to vote against him and for sure to campaign against him. What the hell reason did he have to be at the event on Saturday? Come on, get real. He does not have little kids. He does not have a business in the CBD. He is not in the Ridgewood Guild or the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce. He does not believe in Santa. He is not an elected official. If he was there, and apparently he was, then it was to advance his own devious agenda.

Ridgewood Resident Collecting Holiday Donations for Elderly Residents of Bergen Regional

Bergen_regional_medical_center_theridgewoodblog

Hi Ridgewood,
I’m helping with a Holiday event at Bergen Regional hospital. Many (sadly most) of the elderly residents have no family and very few comforts. I’m collecting items to bring to make life a little better.

I spoke to the manager, we could really use these items for residents, male and female, ages 60-90:
NEW:
Socks
Underware
Bras (many female residents have none)
Throw blankets for the beds
Make up
Jewelry (can be dollar store stuff)
Headphones
Hairbrushes
Sweatpants/sweatshirts
Nightgowns

Are you upgrading your TV? Consider donating your old one, the facility supplies cable but residents need their own TV, many residents have nothing to watch in their rooms.

My address is 365 Gilbert St. I’ll put a rattan box on the porch or will come pick up stuff. Please share, and thank you!!

(I’m happy to do the shopping if anyone wants to donate gift cards as well).

ALL DONATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 15th

Turnover, trials and triumph at Ridgewood parking spot

Parking spot No. 24 in Ridgewood is an excellent spot for parking. It sits across Walnut Street from Memorial Park, smack in the middle of the downtown shopping district, next to the Alex & Ani jewelry shop and close to popular places like Starbucks, the Warner movie theater and the Country Pancake House.

Spot No. 24 is so good, in fact, that it’s nearly impossible to park there.
